Here's Dan having a blast with his race rig out at the dunes. Awesome stuff! Hope this isn't a repost, but it's good enough for it.

That was filmed by Mike West while we were testing the racer at SOB 12 about a month ago. Daniel Field was driving in those, while I watched the suspension and filmed it close up. We located a couple issues with the suspension and got them resolved prior to Primm.

Crawl magazine was also out at the event and got some good shots too.

Here are a couple of good pics we got there.

That second pic is some Big Dawg air!:D Daayyuummm! The truck is a long way down from the top of the dune and is still pretty high in the air! Nice airborne atitude!
Would love to see video of how the suspension dampened on rentry.

LOL :) the power of the picture. It is some good air but, study the picture, the tracks in the sand tell the story.

I wanted some stills of the suspension at work, when it unloaded and how fast the rebound was. My camera takes 7 frames a second with a max of 35 continuous. I set up below the midway bench in the dune there. Then got low so I could get it from below as much as possible. I have the whole sequence from takeoff clear through the landing and run off. That jump is the film strip above from 1:02-1:06. So you have already seen the rebound and dampening on the landing.

I have the same sequence from the last jump in that film, which is probably higher than the first one. Though from a different angle, not near as impressive for a picture as that one is. Crawl magazine has some that I hear are rather good, but they won't let me see or have copies them until 60 day after the issue comes out.

They also have the untold story of that last jump in the film, with pictures. The lower joint on the rear driveline came out of the cups, as the rear was unloading after as it rebounded. U-joint still in one piece attached to the driveline, cups still under the bands on the rear end yoke. Driveline though went around and whacked the frame, breaking the Upper CV at the flange.

We had just a bit of interaction between the bottom of the weld yoke and the bands this caused them to slip just a bit to the side and move just enough. When he torques the motor after impact everything was just right for it to come out.

By accident we found our fix. I told Daniel to grab the driveline out of my crawler, it is 1350 cv top and 1410 on the bottom instead of 1350 bottom. I told him to cut it down and we would use it. He measured it and called to say that is was the right length already. Couldn't find a 1410 yoke for the 9" so we got a 1410 X 1350 cross joint to make it work. Amazingly with this set up we have 3/8" clearance where before we were touching and had to clearance things a bit. This is what we ran at Primm. Needless to say I have stock now in 1410X1350 cross joints. I know they would not be a in stock item most places we race.

There now you have the rest of the story.

Thanks for those awesome pictures and the awesome video. Great motivation to start working on my project although I've got about 2 years before I'll be able to make it out to Cali. Thanks again!!
