That would be pretty cool

7th in points right now!

So all we need is 6 certain DNFs at the 1000, and one 1st? I'd have to do the math, but the finishing points are SO high there. They could do it!!

That would have to be a first for Class 3! It would be great publicity. I'd think they could land a MAJOR sponsor after news like that!!

I, on the other hand, have signed a major sponsor... Kotex. :D (hey, I'd take it).

Yikes

Too bad there aren't more entries in the class at each race they'd be in the #1 spot now!!!

This is the furthest up we have ever been in points. There would have to be a bunch of simultanwous DNF's for us to go up, most likely we will continue to drop due to the point structure leaning toward large classes. Overall points championship while running in Class 3 HAS been done before. Can you guess who? Major sponsors go to those with better connections, more time, and smoother sales pitches than I have. There are a ton of sponsored racers out there that don't win a thing, but they are able to sell value to their sponsors.

Rod Hall? Todd Zuercher will know if he sees this thread, but I'll bet on Hall and then Stroppe.

Sherman Balch? What's the answer? I have my SCORE programs from 1976 to 1988 out searching for an answer!

We have a winner! I think it was around 1973, when there were some huge class 3 entries. What HASN'T Rod Hall won? You have to hand it to him, he racks up the wins with whateve he does. He is one of two people to have raced in EVERY Baja 1000. Amazing. JM Bragg stuck to HDRA, but still has many championships in Class 3. Don Adams also had many championships in the class, but was later when the entries in the class were much lower.

Yes, but Rod is the only one alive to do them all in a car/truck, correct? There is a biker, but I think he's the only "cager". He is awesome, and the nicest flippin guy on the planet, to boot!!

You are correct, the other guy is a bike guy, but I am not sure if he is still finishing. Rod is still winning class championships.

"and the nicest flippin guy on the planet" The jury is still out in my book on that one, and I should probably just leave it at that. The kids I have had good words with.

We had a lot of good experiences in BITD while racing against him. Never really had to put it to the test, I guess. Just shop talk and pre-running, etc.
