In spite of their disappointing 2nd place at the Baja 1000, the Moss Bros. Racing Team claimed the first ever Class 3 Cup Championship! Their two wins and one second garnished an impressive 140 points for the year!

The Leavitt Motorsports/Anger Issues Racing entry hung on for a tie in 2nd, with a 3rd place at the Mint 400 and a first at the MDR 200. The 60 points earned was the same earned by the new ATK Jeep Wrangler.

Darren Skilton and Jon Krellwitz of Team ATK came on the scene hot with a major win at the Baja 1000! Because the finishing points for the 1000 are doubled, due to the length and cost of the race, this well-prepped team managed a tie for 2nd place in the Cup, with only 1 Class 3 Cup race this season!

Sadly, the 3rd place winning FJ of Michael DeHaas has been sent overseas and probably wont be back to run for the next year. Congrats, however, to the KC Highlights Team who finished 2nd at the Mint 400.

Rounding out the rest of the field for the year:

4th place tie:
Gerrardo Barragan - 2nd at the MDR 200
Dan Wright - 2nd at the SCORE Primm race

5th place: Either Scott Wooden or Chris Raffo, whomever went farther in the 1000. Remember, in the Class 3 Cup, you are given points for every vehicle you beat... even if you only go 20 feet farther than that other vehicle! (see "Class 3 Cup Rules/Points")

Tied for 6th:
Pike Family Racing, who sadly didn't garnish a finish at the Mint 400 but surely will be back to make a showing next year!!
Either Wooden or Raffo, whomever DNF'd first at the 1000.

Look for additional postings on the Final Schedule 2009, Baja 1000 payouts, and 2009 Rules.

In spite of the flailing conomy, Class 3 Racers remain enthusiastic about a venue that allows us to pick the BEST races in the BEST places, and encourages competition among the coolest class in the desert!!

X2 on the awards banquet! How about at the Mint 400 in Vegas for those out of the SoCAl/Nev area. Gettin this bunch all in one room would be a kick, to say the least.

OK, we will make it happen. The biggest challenge will the dang schedule. We wanted to get a bunch of us together last year, but they had us in Primm... then vegas, then Primm... you get the picture. With the race REPORTEDLY running north of town again - it might be different.

I may or may not race, but will attend either way. We will figure something out and have a get together... to award Ken/Don and company their trophy!!

I'm pretty sure I made it further than Wooten. Only Moss passed my when I was down on Laguna Salada.

And that is what his write-up said also...

I'm not going to congratulate you on 5th place, but rather look forward to hopefully competing against you in the future.

The Blazer is in El Cajon. Neither of my co-drivers,obivously, got to drive. The first race we're talking about is the Mint, but guessing the Mosses are on the line to run Laughlin, I would love to race a short race against them. Fourteen hundred bucks though is a major impediment, unless someone out there want to go for a ride and has a little extra cash.;) I don't mean to name Moss exclusively, 6 cylinder Jeeps are a fair target as well.
