what type of pipe should i use for this cage? ive been told about 2" pipe about 1/8" thick, but what kind of metal?

You dont use pipe.

If it was a race rig, Over 4000 lbs would be 2" 120 wall.

Anyways, 4130 Chromoly I believe is common and so is DOM tubing. Check out Race-Dezert.com there are lots of threads on tubing.

1018 or 1020 DOM or 4130 Chromoly as above. If your not gonna race it I wouldn't go with a 2" tube, not necasary. 1-3/4 would suffice. .120 diameter wall

Its the thickness of the tubing wall.
As if you were to cut the tube in half & flatten it out, it would be the thickness.
