I'm sure it's late in the game but any recommendations for hotels in Ensenada? I normally camped down at Punta Banda as a kid and definitely hit all the hotels on the strip but I'm wondering if there is a hotel that a lot of C3Rs will be setting up camp at, let me know.

Well, it's official after this morning. Our team is deciding not to run our 11 car at this years 500. We have such bad luck down there with our car, so we're co-dogging/navi for Mike Shaffer in his JeepSpeed rig. We're still trying to unload the 11 to begin our own 3 though! So guess we'll be seeing you all down there!

Chupa, I am looking to get some time in the seat and would love to run with ya, so put me on your list for co-dog. I am committed to helping Moss, but if I have a chance to co-dog he might be able to give me up if he has enough help. Suit and helmet ready to go. I can update my SCORE license when I get there. I have pre-run the 1000 and was supposed to drive the '05 1000 but the Truck didn't make it the distance. I can be down there by Tuesday night. Jerry

The guys from 4 DAY'S VIDEO , they shoot everybody, so the video is like that, bruummm, brummm, the whole video is like that, you can see almost every racer at that dvd, and they just shoot those two parts, still haven't see the video from cactus, so hope they have more of us there.

& with my Bronco back under the knife again & my regular lifes bills I just cant afford to go...

I figured with todays gas prices, I'm looking at at least $300.00 in just fuel, Its $100.00 every time I fill the tank & I know I'll have to fill it at least 3 to 4 times along the trip. & thats not counting food , Beer & T-Shirts & & lodging etc....

But then again if someone whats to go in on expenses with me ( Meaning fuel ) I'll Drive! :D

Yeah I-5 is our route down. Staying in San Diego Thrursday night and cross the boarder by 9 am Friday. It will be my first time out to Erendira. Drove all of highway 1 coming back from Cabo in 2004 but made no side trips. After two weeks in Baja I was ready to get home. Funny, two days later I was ready to go back.

The Autofab party crew will be camped around race mile 300 just south of Erendira. We'll be cheering you all on. From what I here of the course reports doubt we'll see any class 3's until 10 PM or so. If the lights are off in camp please keep the noise down. Good luck to all.

Guys, hey if you are running in class 3 at the 500 MAKE SURE YOUR TRACK WIDTH IS LEAGLE... DOUBLE CHECK IT!!!!! We had to change ours because someone didnt like our total chaos lift kit. ALSO Remember, Savage is taking STOCK track with +2" per side. that means stock wheel off-set that came on your truck for its year from the factory. EXAMPLE: a BONE STOCK FORD BRONCO WITH WALKER EVANS WHEELS IS RIGHT AT LIMIT.... HE WILL BE MESURING EVERY CLASS 3.... BE ready I dont want to loose another entry like we did Cain SMead....

As much as it sucks that you (and us) lost one out of the class 3 for this race, I'm glad they are sticking to the rules that are written. I think it is right to do so. Especially for those that are being very careful to follow the rules to build a legal truck. I love what you guys are doing with the FJ's. Is your first one that you ran at the 250 class legal on the width? The first thing I thought the first time I saw it was, "Wow that looks too wide to meet the class 3 rules". Do you or did you have to change yours also?

Jerry, I AGREE with you but Cain was a BONE STOCK FJ WITH A TOTAL CHAOS KIT ON IT...COME ON..... LET HIM RUN WITH US......its silly to make a guy jump though a bunch of hoops when its a one time deal. He is working with a TOYOTA magazine and was going to do a big story on CLASS 3 racing... Now it will be on Stock MINI.... CLASS 3 is DYING...WE need press and it would have helped....He called me like 30 times wondering how to fix his truck in time...our only choice was stock mini...besides a bolt on kit is no match for what we could do to the FJ's within the rules if we wernt lazy and didnt want to fabricate. BUT WE ARE!

We were 1" too wide in the front at ride hight at the 250.. so in theroy we were illegle. I completly Agree with you that its great for everyone to be within the rules. But I'm 99.9% positive that some of the guys will be too wide based on wheel off-set...the old rules would let you take center line of the spindle as the mesuring point. I know some early broncos and Blazers had a pretty deep Factory wheel. Well if you bolt on an aftermarket Racing wheel you might be too wide...Thats all I was getting at.
The Total Chaos kit was 3" wider per side then stock but we had a deep offest on the wheel so from center of the tire it was 0ne inch too wide. So yes we are burning the midnight oil to get it under limit on trac width. Its a short term fix for this race only. After the 500 I guess we will need to REALLY fab somthing BAD ASS... But thats why I bolted on a lift kit to start with. I hate FABWORK!!! The tFJ only had 10" of wheel travel at the 250... Now its like 9"... With in the rules we can change pivot points and the whole bit....At Primm we will bring a RACE TRUCK....our FJ at the 250 and the 500 is just a nice show peice.. SO Dont hit us.... he he

P.S. the 250 was a perfect day for us......that dosnt happen too often. I'm sure the outcome is going to be differnt at the 500....

I have no problem having Cain join us for this race and I'm sure that all of the other class 3 guys will sign-off on this race for them. Likewise, for you. Total Chaos claims their kit adds 3.5" per side, 7" total.

Blanco, Its too late now...Cains truck is ready for stock mini....That one was easy....

retroblazer, No I dont want anyone thinking we are cheaters.... The Chaos kit was the nearest to race suspension we could find that was quick and easy. We built that truck from start to finish in 4 weeks. I knew it was a little over width but I didnt think anyone would protest a bolt on kit. We have bone stock steering and pivot points. WHo would look at that as a threat???? Its pretty but its no race truck...The FJ has no advantage in this class thats for sure...HALF the horsepower and 10" of wheel travel aint saying much.


We have about 2 more days on our truck fixing the trac width...then a quick shake down in Barstow and we should be ready from Baja... Then after Baja its a Ford 9" center section in the front with 935 CV, inboard a-arm pivot points, saganaw steering with ram assist, and 18" of wheel travel...all within trac width....you know...... what we should have done to begin with. But like I said... I HATE FABRICATING....!! ITS ALL GOOD...

I hear ya, it's a tough one to swallow. I'm not even saying that being wider would put you over the top for an advantage or a win, just saying that I agree with "if the rule is there stick to it". I would love to see both the FJ's run. Was looking forward to it. I think you need to put yourself in SCORE's position.....How do they decide which rules on which truck on which races are ok to be broken or make an exception for? ...Even if it's a one time deal, a win is a win, a place is place, a rule is a rule. Personally, I don't think it is silly to make everyone follow the rules, but it does suck that he was planning on only running this one race. If it was closer to the limit, i could see them making an exception, but 7" wider is almost twice the SCORE limit. Best of luck to both the FJ's. If I see you out there, and I can help, I WILL! :) ....and don't worry, If I nerf you, I will have to pay to fix the front of Don's tow rig so you are pretty safe there.
......and, yes, the magazine coverage would be GREAT for the class, but I dont think class 3 is dying. I think is slow, but is actually on a comeback, not dying. There are several folks building class 3's right now. I think Class 3 will be BIG next year. :) Jerry

Jerry, This was NOT a SCORE thing..... Someone in our class called Savage. SCORE will NOT TELL YOU THAT YOUR TRUCK IS ILLEGLE....ITS a PROTEST SPORT...THE only thing score will stop you for is safty violations...after that each class polices itself on who is leagel....When he called me he was irritated that someone called us out. His quote was "Boy did that guy open a can of worms...not only is it a ton of work for me now but I hate to tell you this Kreg but you are going to have to unbolt the bolt-on kit and unleash some Fabrication" He did tell me that he was going to measure every truck based on stock trac width and STOCK WHEEL OFF-SET. If you are more then 2 inches over you dont run..And I do AGREE rules are rules...they need to be followed. I just would hate to see Raffo or Moss get screwed down there because they didnt calculate factory wheel off-set. I have a bone stock FJ cruiser in my parking lot with a set of KMC wheels on it...BONE STOCK..because of the wheel off-set and larger tire its 1" too wide per side to run class 3...so tell the boys to get an old owners manual and check out the trac width in the book....they can only be 2" wider then that per side...ITS NOTHING..

Wow, I had no idea. I just assumed Savage caught it. I am pretty sure Moss is legal width, not sure about Chris. I guess I just assumed that most are following the rules. I, personally, am following the rules to a "T" with my build. I wouldn't want to be outside the rules in the event (uh, I mean when :) ) I were to take a win, and get challenged, it would suck big time to have it taken away and end up with a DQ! I talked extensively last week with Roach on this very subject (being extra careful to stay within the rules). I was originally planning on extending my beams 2" on each side and running stock rims. Roach dropped down to only 1.5" on each side to be safe, now I am wondering if I should do that or just leave it stock width (re-enforced) and buy wheels with the 2" additional offset.

I would be a little suprised if they weren't considering wheel offset. I have been thinking about this quite a bit prior to this discussion and trying to figure out which route I was going to go.....in fact I asked in a thread if Savage has a list of all the factory track widths and also asked on this forum if anyone here had a list of track widths. I was trying to find out exactly how they measure it and MAKE SURE I didnt go over. Hell, I'm starting to think like Leavett and say "F" it and leave it all stock! It shouldn't have anything to do with the tire being wider and everything to do with the wheel offset. Since the measurement is taken from the enter of the tire, it should not matter how big the tires are. The center of the tire will always be in the center of the rim. Offset of the rim is everything when figuring this.....along with axle housing width.

it looks like the chupakabras is healty again, bad CPS and low fuel pressure, replace the fuel pump and that bad sensor and like new again, better cross my fingers right, so, see yahh all this weekend.

No kidding -- that would be the grown up thing to do, and still keep the racer in the class. I'll promise to all you guys, that if I have a Q about yours, I'll ask you directly. But honestly, I couldn't care less. I just want to finish a race! :) Fact is, it's not another inch or two of track width -- it's luck, preparation and DRIVING (See MOSS bros!).

It was a little funny for us during our inspection with Savage. We were anal about the rule book, and anywhere we thought we might have an issue we sent pics to Savage and asked for a ruling. We didn't want to haul our beast all the way from Texas just to find out something was wrong. Anyway, he was great about working with us and making sure we were within the rules on everything prior to showing. So we get there, expecting this full "rule" inspection, only to find out that it was just a "safety" inspection! We're such ROOKIES!! :o
