Learned to drive on the farm, fooled around the loggin' trails in Maine, Mississippi back woods, California Mud Drags, and Arizona Rock Crawlin'. I 've been desert racing since 1994ish helping other teams at first while building my 83 Jimmy. I ran a bunch of Whiplash races while chasing and co-driving for Bob Shepard. Since I moved away from AZ I've mostly been co-driving with #82 for the Baja races (2005 Champ TT). Nebraska let me register my truck for the street sight unseen due to my Military assignment. I'm very familiar with GPS and Radio stuff. Some pics and stories on my web page.

I'm curious about what came about that you're able to race again, and why this race? And of course, what's next? We should coordinate on pitting.

Oh yeah it's the shortest tow to a desert race,,hahhaa only 1200 miles.
Missouri has some stuff but, short mud tracks and didn't see if they do "big trucks"

Good to have you on the Class 3 Racing list Scoob! Nice people here.
The Mint will be a great time for you and the Blazer. Fair warning... There is a lot more cross grain than Mexico. And the silt is nasty. Not like Mexican silt where there is no bottom. Southern Nevada silt beds often have rocky bottoms with tire eating edges.
I hope I see you there.

Don Wall has already said the North course is extremely rough. Doesn't surprise me - especially if they go through the old imfamous Rock Garden. Shelves of caliche rock. ouch.
I would show up with 8 tires. For the most part our group does not get many flats. This course may be a little different than the south course however.
Can't imagine going through more than 8. 6 is probably borderline... 8 is totally comfy in my opinion.

Hard to say Scoob. What size do you use? 35's?
Like Ken says, if they use the Rock Garden then more chances of surprise failures. There is also the Piute Wash. Not sure my spelling is right, but I know I'm right about the big microwave sized, square edge gray rock, that reaches out and chomps tires and wheels.
8 spares would be 2 flats per lap. If you plan on doing all the driving then 2 flats per lap is too many. I mean, heck, after a few tire changes you learn where those darn things are. If you share the drive, somebody has to go through the learning curve just like you did.
More important in my thinking would be to carry two spares. I don't know why, but it seems that the more spares you carry, the less you end up needing them.
Go figure...
