I'm researching wheels right now and would like to get some opinions from the seasoned veterans.

Are beadlocks necessary? I haven't noticed external beadlocks on Moss' rig, but are they/you running Staun's, or? I noticed Raffo's running locks.
Which wheels are the best? ....meaning from all ends: strength, weight, ability to hold air, maintenance, cost and overall value.
Do you have any good sources that you can pass on?

Thanks fellas

I would by choice use beadlocks, although I was fortunate enough when Corr Pro-2 driver, Kevin Probst switched wheels, he gave me eight 15x8 American Wheel beadlocks. If I had to replace them now, I would buy Walker Evans wheels. The price is fair and the overall strength of the wheel is makes it one of the best.
The advantage of using a beadlock is two-fold. First the reinforced rim makes it less likely that the rock damage will occur to the wheel, and by having the tire clamped on the wheel, when a flat occurs, it allows more flexiblity on how far it can be driven before it gets changed.
The negative is that a beadlock adds to the unspung weight and cost.

I cant think of any instance since we started racing the Bronco that a beadlock would have been a help. That doesnt mean we wont come across that situation someday, but not yet. If you have a lot of money and the rest of your rig is done the way you want, it maybe something to look at. I like cheap and strong enough IMO.

Hey brian, Just remember in racing you dont air down like you do in crawling.
so its not as big a factor.

Spend the money on your cage in stead. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/m2c.gif

I agree. I think for my current Bronco I'll go with Allied aluminum on steel locks to keep it as more of a dual duty rig/chaser and then follow Raffo's advice and by a shell to build a Class 3 off of.
