View Full Version : Celebrate Historical Miles At The Mint!

A lot of us are going to be lucky enough to race in the General Tire Mint 400. I couldn't ask for a better team to run it with than the Pikes. I am flat out excited! Some in the Class3 List have a lot of Mint Miles in their history. There will be more history made at this edition of the Mint 400.
When I attended my first Mint, I had no idea that I was living in a moment of history. Now that I've got a lot more racing in my rear view mirror than I do in my windshield I wish I had realized that. Well, I'll tell you what, I realize it now! I can't wait for that white rocky silt, and that brutal cross grain. Bring it on. I'm going to run it in an open face helmet instead of my pumper! I hope I blow muddy stuff from my nose for a week! Woof!
Through the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame you can do a little something to celebrate the historical miles teams will run at this years race. ORMHOF is going to raise some funds with our Historical Miles Celebration. If you are running the Mint this year, think about pledging a little $$ per mile of your race to help us preserve the heritage of our sport. The Pikes are already on board with their pledge. Perhaps your sponsors would find $.050 a mile affordable. Call them, ask them to chip in, just a little...
If you are not running the Mint, think about helping a race team who is by pledging a small amount to support their pledge. It doesn't have to be a ton of money to make a difference. Whatever you feel comfortable pledging, $0.10 a mile, $0.25 a mile, $0.50 a mile, or a buck a mile.
It all goes directly to the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame. It all goes to work suporting ORMHOF.
Please help us to help each other.

Does Pike even have a Pumper system in the rig?
I noticed at the start last year both drivers were wearing open face helmets.
Good luck not having a rock get your face, One his my shield last year.
Money is very tight these day for most of us, But I like what your doing, I'll have to think of how much I can justify.
Who signs the Book & is it too late to be one of those that get one?
& I assume it dont have to be a Team?
If I do it I'm doing it under the Sites name because I'm not racing this year. :(

No Pumper system in the Ram. That's Okay though. Old School rocks. Speaking of rocks, there is a windshield to slow them down. That said, I still love the idea of doing it the way we did it 30 years ago. What an experience.
Right now I know Rod Hall will be signing the books, and I hope that K.J. Howe will sign them as well. You are not too late to get a book. If you sign up as Class3Racing.com you will get one. You could probably get a lot of your subscribers to make good on a $0.10 or $0.25 pledge. It will add up if you get a bunch to do it.
Just let me know and I'll add you to the list.

How about some more info on the "books"? What are they?
They are a hard bound coffee table book. 256 pages of photos and the story of each Baja 1000 from the first event in 1967 through the last race before the book was published in 2005. Extremely high quality. It is out of print now, so the only copies available are on from places like ORMHOF or Amazon. Here is a link to the book on Amazon:
Amazon.com: Used and New: 1000 Miles to Glory: The History of the Baja 1000
They came to us at ORMHOF as a gift from BFGoodrich. BFG bought a ton of them for a special promotion celebrating their 30th year of success in off-road racing. They made a unique hard cover jacket for their supply. They sent us the left over supply of both books and special jackets.
The book is really a nice piece. Perhaps somebody else on Class 3 could chime in with their description.
Hope this answers your question. Or "over answers" it would be more like it :)

Darn it! The link does not work.
Go to Amazon.com and search: 1000 Miles To Glory
I hate when that happens...

Sorry Blanco,
Adobe will not let us email a filled in form unless the sender has the full Adobe Acrobat program. The best bet is to fax it in to me.
Fax: 949-859-9126 It is a phone answering machine and fax all in one. If you hear a voice greeting, just hit your send button and the machines sort things out.
Thanks for the support!

Greg: Knowing your interest in racing, this is a book you should have on your bookshelf or coffee table. One of those "seminal works" of the sport we love so much. Well written with plenty of good photos, including plenty of our favorite 4 wheeled vehicle :). I've used mine for reference and good reading too.

Had a feeling that might be the book. They had them at the Bronco 40th.
At Amazon.com you can buy "1000 Miles to Glory" from the Motorsports Hall of Fame for $190 (ouch),
but I trust some of the proceeds go to help them out and glad to do it.
Thanks Bob and don't have too much fun with the Pikes. At least your teeth will stay white smilin' thru all that white dust!!!!

(Ouch) indeed!
I have been watching the prices on Amazon for quite some time. It was always $250 and higher. I didn't know if these book collectors were selling them or just listing them, so I said to myself, "I'll sell some at those prices!" I discounted the price to just a shade under "Outrageous".
When they sell, every nickle goes to work at ORMHOF. We don't pay any salary to a staff. We do have some fixed costs, like a web site and other operational expenses. But all the funds we receive go directly to work on ORMHOF stuff.
At ORMHOF we give the book away free with a new annual membership. That's the best deal going. An annual membership is $100. The book is free. We can make you a member today if it makes sense for you to be a member.
And Yes, I'll have a great time with the Pike Clan. The dust, the rocks, the silt, the cross grain, the rocks, the rocks, the rocks. Oh, and did I mention the rocks?
We will have a "rockin" good time...

If anyone decides to become part of the Bigger donation through The Sites numbers Please post that you sent money how ever small the amount is because I dont monitor my Paypal account & I wont know you sent money unless you PM or Post it.
Thanks to all of you considering.
I like the thought of when they day comes that I can get to Reno That it will be there & I can feel proud about helping out in its efforts.
Remember no amount is too small if 10 of you donate $5.00 that adds up to $50.00

Thanks for signing the book Bob. Can't put it down and glad to help out your great cause.
Gonna bring the book to the Mint and future races and get some old school signatures in it, starting with Gale.
Come by Binions early for Friday's driver meeting and join us for a Class 3 meet n greet in the coffee shop. Got a section of the restaurant reserved for everyone in the class to eat and have a couple drinks between 4 and 6 pm when the driver's meeting starts in the conference room. Hope to see you there.

I'd love to come by Binions to visit the meet & greet, but I will probably be finishing up on contingency and packing up. I'll try to get there if possible.
I'm expecting Rod Hall and K.J. Howe to be with us to autograph books on Friday. Stop by, I'd like to meet you and thank you personally.
