Holding the new Mint 400 on the old race course was a kick. On top of the class 3 racing, got to watch Steele and A McMillan duel all day and Rob McCachran? gave all the drivers a clinic, ironmaning I think a seventh overall in a 1600 car!!!

Moss drove away with the Class 3 trophy, lapping the field, but the three way race for second was a blast to watch all day and into the night.

Chris Raffo had a long overdue finish grabbing second and the Pikes, who shadowed them all day took third with Rod Hall codawging a lap with Gale.

The BCB bronco completed 3 laps before running out of time and spares.
Good to see their truck running nice and cool, as they were right in it the first three laps.

The Maloney and Dombrowski? entries were unfortunately out early in the first lap, another sign of how rough the course was. Way to step up and support class 3 racing and hope to see them at another start line soon.

All in all a great Class 3 performance given just how rough the course was and the broke racecars littering the course even after the first lap. Great meeting Grimm, who hung out all day with me and Joe Rockhead at Pit C.
Here's hoping the Mint 400 is back for good!

That entire event is such a good time.The tech on Fremont street went the length of the Fremont Street Experience this year.Hopefully it brought in a lot of revenue for the businesses down there.I talked to a Metro cop that was doing race car escorts,and he said the city was really behind this event.That really helps secure the future of the race.
As for the race,it was great.The shower of rocks from the first trophy trucks thru Pit C was interesting.The TV show COPS was filming right next to us, and two very friendly girls from a TrophyLite team set up camp in the back of my truck.Doesn't get much better than that!

I must say the event was as close as Baja as it gets here in the states from what I've seen?!

The casino's were a bit of a distration, but for guys like me that brought our GF's it was a blessing to not have to hear the nagging about how bored they are. :rolleyes:

I finally got my PC issues fixed & am working on the pic's, but being I must get up at 5am, you'll have to wait. :p

Here are a few pics. they are probably gonna be big, sorry, it takes to long to resize all of them. This was my first race as a spectator and only increased my drive to get our project done. Had an amazing time at contingency on freemont, the meet and greet and the race was unreal!!! Glad I finally got to meet a lot of you guys and was like a little kid wait for a pro ball player to walk out of the stadium. I was down at tech for 8 hours walking around and just waiting to check out the rigs. I ended up getting to pit with Broncodawg and Joe Rockhead at pit C for Moss and anyone else that needed help. Got to the pits early and set up shop at the begining of pit road on an uphill ruted turn that had me wondering how the heck they were gonna get into our pit. But, Greg re-assured me that they would have no problem climbing out of the ruts if needed. The really only action from our class came lap two when Moss had to get rid of a loose fire extinguisher and sure enough just powered out of the ruts into the pit like butter. Then off with a roar. Freakin awesome. I stayed to watch them pass by on the 3rd lap around 4 ish and had to head back to the hotel to entertain the GF, but i figured they had a strong lead. Glad to hear that at least half the class finished. I was pulling for everyone to make it. Pics to follow

It was an epic event for sure. I had a great time every day we were there from the pre run to the awards ceremony. It was great meeting all the new people and racing with a huge field for class 3. Congrats to Chris and crew for a great 2nd place finish. I'm glad to see that your front end problems may be behind you. big props to the Pike's team for hanging tough all day. I have to say that Ramcharger is one bad ass machine. Better luck next time to the other competitors, that course was brutal. My hats off to the people of SNORE. They really pulled off a great event.

well to say the least it was a long and somewhat disappointing day in the dirt. matt started out the race running to rm 43 on lap 1, about 1 minute off moss's pace, where we did our first drivers change and gale and rod got in and ran the next 100 miles.
gale started off slow a little off the winning pace but was only 17 minutes back of moss on lap 2 where at rm 25 he misjudged a hill and put the truck in a hole/ravine. after about 45 minutes they got the truck unstuck but broke the front axle pulling out of the hole. he continued to rm 43 on lap 2 where noah got in for his section.
by this point we were a little over an hour out of first and were running third. noah ran clean through the remainder of the 2nd lap where he had to make a 10 minute pit stop at pit c to pull out the driveshaft and run the remainder of the day in 2wd" being we had no spare". he cought raffo at the tail end of the 2nd lap and continued through to rm 43 at the halfway point on lap 3. still approx. 1:20 behind moss and with raffo and atkinson nipping at our heels matt got in to drive the remainder of the 3rd lap and half the fourth. shaving off about 10 minutes from moss's lead there was still a chance until disaster struck on lap 4 when we ran out of gas at about rm 23. down another two hours we finally managed to get fuel in the truck, with 1st place out of sight we were still running 2nd hoping to finish the last lap problem free.
matt gave the ram back to noah at rm 43 to take in to rm 80 where gale and rod would roll through the finish. things were running smoothly until we heard over the radio that the alternator completely crapped out in the black night at rm 56 leaving them without lights or power. they managed a half a$$ repair to limp in to pit "c" where the crew spent another hour mocking up a custom alternator to give the truck power. as we were finishing repairs raffo cruised by nonchalantly in his tomatoe blazer at rm 70 giving him around 20 minutes on us. noah ran the truck to the finish trying valiantly to make the 1:04 am time limit. we crossed the line at around 1:30 missing by a bit. not sure when raffo crossed but hoping he was able to make time. 5 hours of downtime led to a very long day and an unexpected performance for the charger. next time will be better. congrats to moss for a flawless day and raffo for charging hard.

Nick never got a chance to co-dawg, but his helmet did. He loaned it to me so it could do a lap with Noah. His helmet must have pretty good race karma because we had a trouble free lap. Two wheel drive only, but Noah did great. Nick did, however, remind me that I got his helmet dirty when I got out of the Ramcharger. He was right.

i was chasing with the dodge all day and the ford was on the trailer, i couldnt' tell you how many races they've raced together or against each other. the stories being told in the pits between the two of them were pretty classic though.

chris, it was the passengers side axle that broke i believe, and yes the ram has 37's on it. it made for a few hairy situations from what i heard.

Great pix. I remember seeing that #105 in tech.It looked like they had chopped up an aluminum ladder they had at work,and used it to make some trailing arms.Had disc brakes right near the pumpkin,if I remember correctly.

The Next two clips I'm working on now are from the Pits.
I'll be posting a clip from the Moss pit 1st, then Later The Raffo Pits.

Yeah, I plan to start looking into cool tunes for these clips, especially after editing the Moss Pits clip.
I just spent a couple hours working on it editing out all the Bla bla that was in it without cutting out the cooler parts..

Just understand everyone, I've never done this before. :o

The Moss stop was actually about 15 minutes or so & I tried to cut out all the non-important stuff without lossing all that was taking place at the same time....
The deal is keeping it short enough to not bore you with out taking out the good stuff.

& I was gonna go camping in the '96 Centurion this weekend but went to the beach instead. :cool:

awesome videos of the pits. I've been busy this last semester but it is possible the wife and I might be heading out to California earlier than expected...like this summer so I might get to go out and help out with some of the pits and get my feet wet.
