my project has been put on a slight hold its still a street legal truck so i have been driving it as a daily driver till last week when the motor started knocking so now we are down to 1 car and i need to get another motor so i can pull the old one and see what happened

i have a line on another bronco a 1981 with either a 400 or a 351/c6. we have the cage bent and cut ready to be welded in just dont have to time the last few weeks

a few weeks a go we upgraded the cooling to a 4 core from the stock 2 core. as of right now my goals of racing in 2010 isnt looking so good but i know my first race will be a local VORRA race so for now thats where i am at...

P.S. anyone in norcal have a cherry picker i can barrow?

Iam back on the Blazer build, I was away for a month, But this week Iam building the front axle, Next week we will have the springs and axles mounted, Then after we mount the tires and wheels the new body panels can get installed, From there we can start the tin work:eek:Iam trying to build everything in my shop to get the most for what $$ i have to spend

I'm still moving forward and will be race ready for 2010. As I indicated before, my prerunner is fast becoming the race rig. It's getting close to the point of no return. It won't be a hi-tech super duper TT killer, but I want to race and I'm going in on an almost non-existent budget. The cage was supposed to be completed before the 500, but I've run into a couple of financial snags and it's been set back. If I could join you guys for the next race I would and I'm dieing to get there. I'll take my time and keep chugging along. Eventually it will be done. I'm building it almost 100% by myself and I've never done it before, so things take a little time.

I won't be going for any championship, but only racing a couple of small races as funds allow. The 2010 Baja 500 is the target, but I will not race it without at least doing one solid local race first.

For now I'm on chase duty and pit support for a couple of friends in other classes. I've got the MORE 500 on May 23rd, then leaving for the Baja 500 the following weekend to prerun for a some bikes. Will be there the entire week.

I had to make decission about what class I was going to run. With all things considered I chose to build it into a 7s. Main reason being cost.

I just finished my build. My goal was to run the MINT, but did not get critical parts in time. So now that I am ready, I am informed that SNORE will not allow tubular arms, BS in my opion. If you read the rules, it reads "May be reinforced, strengthened or replaced". So I guess I just built another 1450.

I still plan to run rest of 2009 with SNORE, just a little pissed with certain people there.

Good luck to all of you class 3 guys, we will see you at the races!!!

Hahaha! Thanks for calling me out with the PM blanco!

Here it is. I have an engine at the builders. Most of my cage work is done, still needs door bars, spare mounts, fuel cell, and a few tubes in the front end, both bumpers need to be fabbed. I have most of the suspension fabbed and tacked in. Needs trans mounts and rear shackles. Body needs to be mounted.

The truck has been put on the back burner now about 3 times, as I have a 40/wk job as a manufacturing engineer/project manager, and spend another 20-30 hrs/wk working on customer vehicle and parts for Uweld Race Kits.

The bronco just went on its wheels and should be going up to the new shop where it will hopefully be able to get more attention then what it is currently getting. I have all the parts i need to finish it, just not the time. I would like to have it finished some time this summer.

As of right now it is still no threat to the anger management team!! haha (referencing an old thread where he said he was not scared/impressed as it was just a cab and frame)

It is what it is and will be done when its done.:D:p

College is holding me up from building my racer. I've got a 73 bronco that I thought about restoring but after learning about class 3 I have decided to use it as a class 3 race truck. Hopefully I will be able to race in a couple years.

Well, I just got engaged. Spent truck money on the ring and the future wedding has put spending tight although we are currently working on the suspension now. Pending on how much the wedding costs, the word "Elope" comes to mind. Ideally it will be race ready for 2010 sometime in the summer. But some parts like the axles will have to be upgraded after the first race or two. We'll see.

The pig was put on hold for awhile after the last move due to some family business. The wife and I are also trying to get our own family started so I cut my budget down to prep for that aswell.

However progress has been made-I spent a good wad of cash on new tools (dies, notcher, etc) picked up a tow vehicle (76 f-250) and finished boxing in the frame. Just last week end I started bolting up the drive train and will be ordering my fuel cell tomorrow (baja concepts was closed already...)

I'm still shooting for new years but we'll see.

I'm so excited to hear about how you guys are still working on your builds & have not lost interest.

Starting to look like 2010 might be a big year for Class 3. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/7.gif

Sorry I didnt reply right away. The man threw me a major curveball. I believe I posted an update a little while ago about what my situation was. But Im in a bind right now. My pony is sitting in the garage quietly right at the moment. Her doner is outside waiting. I managed to pick up an explorer rear end with disk brakes, should make a huge difference. Someone stole my One piece clip believe it or not.. Other wise right now my soon to be fiance are in the process of moving into a studio apartment. so thats what is really making me put a hold on my projects. Im still racing with her Dad at all the MDR events. Ill borrow her camera one day and put up some pics, mine was in my jeep along with my laptop when it was stolen...Thanks for the PM cam, talk to you guys soon..

Sorry for the late reply, I have a lot going on right now with buying another house with a SHOP!!! new home for the Blazer, getting married in about 3 weeks and expenses along going with it, the Blazer has taken a back seat. I have been on a slight hold for a bit. Once everything settles down i will be back at it trying to get the Blazer running and eventually racing! Ron's build gives me inspiration but also awes me at the extent he is going! May have to order an axle or two from you Ron! Next pictures will most likely be the body of the Blazer making the move to the shop.

im hoping to race the night race in september. im ordering a new rear axle probably next week so that will solve my shocks slightly rubbing the tire. trying to fit a 3in bypass inbetween the leaf spring and tire is probably impossible haha.

been driving it every day for 2 weeks now, running great.

need to locate a full width front axle so i can start on revamping front suspension. current setup has 11in travel. new set up will probably be 14-15ish and with a tripple bypass. definitely dont want to race until front is done knowing its such a limitation at this point.

anyone know of a full width d44 non cast, low pinion and preferable with drums for sale? have an idea brewing in my head :)

So how many class 3's will be available to race this year?

RSB3
03-04-2010, 08:44 AM
Another update, got married in May, expecting a baby in late July, got the Blazer moved into the shop but my company closed my office in Boise but they will relocate me to Seattle. (I get my shop and I don't even get to play in it!) Was to make the move to Seattle in January 2010 but now I am traveling from Boise to Sunnyvale, Ca to help out that office so the move is postponed to at least mid June now. So basically I have no time to spend on the Blazer right now due to travel, if i make it up to Seattle for work (still trying to stay in Boise) I will definitely need to swing by Ron's shop to check out his Blazer! Hoping someday to get that Blazer in a race...

Where and when?

One of my primary sponsors for the Mexican 1000 now has a conflict and wants to do the Baja 500. In the same day that happened another rider popped up to do the Mex 1000. So, as of today, I will be racing the 500 for sure and a strong possibility of doing the Mex 1000.

kia does run, test drive a couple of weeks ago was good with the exception of a blown rear shock, a good shakedown run in our local desert will happen in the next two weeks (i just need some registration) should be running in local desert races this year. the last year was rough $$$$$, both my accts say $0.00!

As it happened, I came across this article about the first Baja 1000 that the Kia raced. I saved the article because I was chasing for Glen Harris's rental racer and this team, driving one of Don-A-Vee's Grand Cherokee rentals.

Depends on which one you're asking about.

The old car? After flogging it in February and bringing it back home, I need to remount a tranny cooler, finally just weld the cage to the frame (body has had just about as much as it'll take), and I think it's good to go for another flogging.

As to my new project.. it arrived a year and a half ago (November 08) and has been sitting in my field ever since.

http://www.tmcom.com/~tsm1/gallery2/d/49891-2/DCP_4332.JPG

What's holding it up? It started with the 6 month project by a professional so I could get a jump start turning into 2 years by same professional and not as complete as I'd hope for. That delay directly lead into the next biggest impediment to progress, my now 14 month old daughter (and to a lesser degree, her 3.5 year old sister - shown below at 1 year with the old racer) :D (and a string of other things like a failed air compressor, cluttered shop, broken trail rig, and so on)

http://www.tmcom.com/~tsm1/gallery2/d/33583-2/IMG_9334.JPG

Heads are at the machine shop to be flow benched. Engine needs the rods polished and the block decked - rest of the bits, short of a camshaft, have been purchased and are waiting to be assembled.

Then just get the thing inside and make some progress.
