I didn't race class three but I'd figure I would share my story (see below). Enjoy,
Tim
I lasted about 142 miles until I broke. So here goes my story;
I raced in the 1400 class (#1438) starting around 6 of 19 racers. Things were going well until I almost rolled frontward at mm11 at the road crossing. The front of my truck was litterally in the dirt. Luckally it didn't go over. after continuing down the course I noticed that we had sheared off two of my roll cage supports to the motor (one on each side) we pulled over to secure the supports and saw the motor on fire due to melting plastic wire covers dripping on the headers. We put it out and got back on the road. Around mile marker 50 I saw my spare tires swaying back and forth, so we pulled over again and realized the tire mount had broke loose and was barely hanging on. We wraped a strap around it and got back on the course. about five minutes before reaching our first pit we I started to lose my breaks (to stiff).
Once I rolled into the pits my crew saw that my wheels were towed out due to a broken swing arm bushing. We adjusted the Tow, then welded two gussets at the broken cage supports (which tore a big whole at the main roll cage) secured the tires, changed air filter and got fuel. We began to drive away until I realized that my cooler fans stopped working. It was a bad connection that ratteled loose. We repaired it and finnally got back on the course and to the start finish line. I still don't know my official first lap time.
The second lap was going great. all of the bugs were worked out and not a single issue until we were driving directly into the sun around mm50 and things started to look familure... too familure... We had some how crossed the course and realized we were going back around again !@#$%. By the time we realized it, we were at mm11 and we basically had no choice but to just keep on going (or I would have had to drive the course in the opposite direction). At this point it was starting to get dark and we were at mm 20 when my motor started missing then by mm30 it was so bad I almost couldn't go anymore. We tried radio but couldn't get through, we tried our cell phones and no signal. We decided to try and limp it to an open area (back road shown on the map). Once I got it going again It seemed to limp fine as long as I kept it at a medium RPM, but if I let off the gas it wanted to stall or if I gassed it up a grade it wanted to choke out. We continued on the road for about 20 miles until we hit a paved road wher we attempted to limp it in. Then I saw flashing lights in my rearview and got pulled over. I had no Drivers license, Insurance, Registration and he said I was speeding with bright lights. He asked me to step out of my vehicle and go to my hood. I just listened and said yes sir, no sir. I talked to him for about 45 min. and he let me go!!! I had to call for a trailor and that was that.
I found part of the motor issue was two burned spark plug wires. I'm still digging to see if it was anything else. I did see alot of Broncos out there and some along the race course as spectators. I told my co-dawg to honk everytime we saw a bronco because I new some of you guys would be out there. All in all It was a blast and I learned alot for the prep on the next Race. Hopefully I'll figure out how to post a picture.

Wow! Quite an experience Tim. I never saw you out there. Wish I would have. Must have left our pit before you came by the first time. I'm curious what your lap times were too. Somebody posted pictures of the results on RDC. Check them out. Get that thing fixed and try again.

Thanks for the story Tim, I am suprised tha tthe carnage was as bad this year as it was. I wont be at a race until the Jan race next year due to the job but be sure to stop by the Kaveman pits next time you run a more race. Sorry to hear about the rough day/night.
Last year my dad and brother ran a clean race no issues, this year the race gods were not smiling on us at all. Too bad too because we have this car dialed in now. SOund slike the race was fun though.

I'm still laughing about Tim driving his race car on the streets. "...but officer?!?!?!?!" Haha!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
And the officer saying..... "lic and reg sir..." hahahaha
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, My co-dawg (Joe) couldn't believe it. He got two tickets in the past three months. I think the officer saw the tears welling up in my eye's. I just couldn't bear anymore expences.
As far as racing, I am starting to get my feet under me now. That was my second race and I'm starting to get the feel of what needs to be done.
The funny thing the officer said to me was; "If you'd gone out into the desert I would have let you go"... I had a double take and said "Really?".... What an experiance.
This racing stuff has a grip on me. Can't wait to get back out there. I'll try and catch up with the Caveman Racing team and crew next time. It just seems hard sometimes, like there's barely enough time.
P.S. I did lose a fender on the course around mm26. That was do to me losing control and darting off the course into a bush the size of a house. After running through it I had a huge branch stuck between my fender and hood. My co-dawg said now we are camoflaged and we can now attempt some sneak around passes on our competitors Then that big branch broke my fender loose. I drug it about two miles where I had a friend peel the rest of it off who happend to be at that mile marker.
