i will try to describe everyting that i could remember since we started racing..
well

we alwasy been fan's of offroad racing, everytime we could we were doing pits for some friends, and we always dream of racing our own racer..
then, a friend said to my brother that he want it to race too, and he put his own b2 for us to build a score racer, that was at 1998, everything was stock, we just check the rulebook, and we did the rollcage and so on, just install some bilstein shocks, like 10" or less, just replace the stock shocks to bilstein, at the original position, front and rear, stock diff.. front and rear, 29" bgf allterrain tires, just look at the pictures, ok,..

http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/awesome_dude.gif That was one of the best clips I've seen!

& it also showed some of the stuff you guys have to go through & still amaze's me on how 2WD like class 11's can get through alot of that stuff.

I really liked the Goat trail footage.
I remember stopping to take some Pics & Video there & found it slightly scary.
Its bumpy & off camber with a short drop to the road below & a bigger drop on the other side of the narrow road.

Thanks for posting the clip! :)

Wow!! 05 BAJA 500. The memories..... Chupas brother and I started that race from the first spot in class and got stuck in the mud just passing the Ensenada dam (mile 4-5) an lost about 1/2 an hour, that close to the start meant that everybody else past us, not only the other class 3 trucks, I mean everybody else (to our favor, there was no UTV class back then), got unstuck only to have some more down time with an overheated engine before ojos.... when we figured out what the problem was, we were about an hour behind the rest of the field (all of the field).... took some crazy driving and some lucky navigation to pass 1500īs trucks, avoid silt beds and bottle necks and a flat tire until we manage to catch up with Kenīs truck and pass him wen he was making a pit stop, farther down the course we had the same treatment for some "Pitting Black Bronco" and the other entry (donīt remember who he was, but it was red Cherokee, he he) had tranny issues, we delivered a strong Chupakabras to the mid race point back in front of the class. got on chase mode and drove to the next pit point, we had very hi hopes....
Later that evening we got the news of the rollover and that Chupas and Carlos were safe in a check point, shaken but O.K. and that there was no possible way to get to the site of the accident or even the check point, at least not until day break, they told us they were going to them back to Ensenada.
BUMMER!! We were glad for them being all right, but spend some time lamenting that all of our hard work was for nothing. Iīm sure that feeling lasted at least until the moment we saw the damage to the truck in the bottom of the ravine..... I can tell you there were several hugs delivered among us and the race effort took the back seat to the fact that our friends were alive and well. We spent the rest of the day salvaging all we could into the back of the chase trucks.... butt, thats another story.
From that race the CHUPAKABRAS CAME BACK IN PIECES, but our team came back in one piece.
Hey Chupas, finally, some nice music.

Can you give the specs on the Chupakabras Explorer? It looks like a stock drivetrain, King coilovers, Extended Radius arms, Spring under rear w/ Kings. . .but are the beams cut/turned? Are the TTB brackets dropped? If so, which brackets were used (autofab?)? What rear springs does it use? What about rear bumps (I don't see any, but I'm pretty blind)?

From the pics and videos, once you get your mechanical bugs worked out, it looks like you are going to have one mean Goat Sucker. :)

everything as you said, no ttb brackets dropped, no cut and turn, stock ttb , fox bump stops on four wheels, this baja 500 was the first time with them, and second race with king coilovers in front and first time with deavers leaf springs on the rear, the rear fox bump stops are hard to see, they are mounted from the innerside of the frame, no room to mount them on the outside of the frame, will show some pics once we wash it, haha, till now stock 4.0 pushrod engine, . .

.. after doing a quick analysis, our chupakabras is ready to be competetive, just need to send my bro to learn how not to breake a tranny, haha, he has a heavy foot, from there, we just need to work on our logistic program, Ooops we don't have one, haha, thats why we ran out of fuel, that's another story,
we lost between 7 to 8 hours, ,2 replacing the tranny, 3 on a pilup, and another 3 waiting for some fuel, it could be a great race for us, i know there is no what if? well, next time.

I know this is old but are you running 12 or 14 inch coilovers? that looks like a butt load of travel...

14's an all 4 wheels,. :D:D , we had to limit the drop a litlle bit more because of the axles getting stuck, and because of that we broke a wheel hub on that baja, so we lost the 4 wheel drive on that race, :D

shi-dang.. so would I be halfway competitive then with some 6 inch lift coils, custom radius arms and a cut and turn? Id be happy with at least 12 inches of travel.

just remember the limit is 4" maximum width from stock, that incluiding offset wheels,.:D if you wanna keep it score legal., before we had coilovers we used to ran with 3" skyjacker coilsprings,

well, I wasnt planning on extending the beams. I may hold off on doing a cut and turn then for now. I dont much care for score, they cost too much. Im picking up another Bronco II on monday. Its a 2wd but its got a hell of a suspension system in it. 6 inch skyjacker coils, custom coil buckets, deavers (at least thats what he told me) and Fox shocks all around. all for only 300 bucks. Its a 1985 but it runs! for 300 bucks you cant beat that... Im going to pull the shocks and springs and all that and put them on my BII so I can get going on the dang thing, but I want to keep the other BII and set it up as a daily driver, it has the carb'd 2.8L. does anyone know if you can modify the intake mani on these to accept a holley carb?

the b2 tha we used to ran, had that engine, and that carburator was a nigthmare, we always dream on putting the2.9 fi engine, but, it end up better than that,. long story short, we build a new one, ford explorer with a 4.0, :D:D
