The rooms have worked out to about $100 total for 3 nights at Whiskey Petes per room, so its hard to go wrong. The crew prefers Whiskey Petes because its a little cheaper, it has a good pool and the rooms are right next to the pool.
Here's the contact info for ordering blocks of rooms:

Good deal, but be careful about all the strings attached. Cancelation can be costly in deals like those and the hotel won't help you. All dealings have to go through hotels.com.

Thank you - I might actually cancel - (but I have 4 rooms booked at Buffalo Bills at 185 for three nights each, so I have to think about this).
I also just called hotels.com and got a room there for 139 for all three nights. So.....they said if you cancel you have to do it by 09.08.09 or else get charged for one night. FYI,...Hotels.com said they have quite a few rooms still left for that weekend.....

Does anyone know what day the pre-run will be?
Is it on friday along with tech?
Or will it be like the MINT where there both done on different days?
I do remember pre-running with Ken one year & his dad telling us to hurry up to get back in time for tech while we were out goofing around.
so might the Pre-Run & tech be the same day?
I plan to arrive on thursday & leave sunday & being now I have other friends that want to joing us I'm needing to figure out the plan for many of us.

Looks like I've been talked into pre-running the course this year with a full load of friends in my Centurion at this years race event.
It wont be as fun, being I'll have to go much slower than I would in my Bronco.
But we'll have have Desert Rat & his wife & The Hammer & who knows who he might bring ( might be two friends ) & then Maggie & myself.
But it should be alot of fun.
So now I've gotta start Prepping the Centurion for the Pre-run.
Who else might be pre-running in a stock rig at the race?

I dont plan to push the the rig, I have no intention of going fast at all.

Rd 4 of 2009 SCORE Desert Series
Ed Stout draws first start in SCORE Trophy-Truck
For next month's 14th SCORE Terrible's Primm 300
SCORE’s 36th season continues Sept. 11-13 with nearly 125 entries
Expected in18 Pro & 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks
LOS ANGELES—Ever-improving desert racer Ed Stout, Irvine, Calif., has drawn the first start in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division in the computerized drawing for starting positions for next month’s 14th Annual SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 desert race. Round 4 of the five-race 2009 SCORE Desert Series will be held Sept. 11-13 in Primm, Nev.
In a sport where there is rarely qualifying and no open pre-running (in the U.S.), the drawing for start positions has added significance and Stout’s No. 13 Stout Industries Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy-Truck was selected randomly in Saturday’s computerized drawing at the SCORE Int’l headquarters in Los Angeles.
The 14th Annual SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 will feature 18 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks in Primm, located 45 miles south of Las Vegas at the California border. This year’s starting grid is expected to reach nearly 125 vehicles. Late entries will be accepted up until race morning.
Sitting an impressive third in season points in SCORE Trophy-Truck behind NASCAR regular Robby Gordon (No. 77 Chevy CK1500) and Las Vegas veteran Brian Collins (No. 12 Dodge Ram1500), Stout, 43, has consistently driven the truck built in his own race shop to near the top of the sport’s featured racing division. He started the year with a third place in Laughlin and followed by solid finishes in both San Felipe (eighth place) and Ensenada (13th place).
A total of 23 SCORE Trophy-Trucks, the marquee SCORE racing division for high-tech, 800-horsepower unlimited production trucks entered in time for Saturday’s start draw.
Seven of last year’s class winners have entered so far, including six of last year’s top 10 overall finishers.
“We are having a really, really good season and to be third in SCORE Trophy-Truck points after three of five races is kind of like living a dream,” said Stout and Orange County businessman who deals in the world of computers. “We built our race truck from the ground up and are proud to see it perform at this level. By drawing the first starting position for Primm, we now have a wonderful opportunity to really show that we belong in the league with our sport’s elite. I sincerely hope I’m up to that challenge.”
Starting behind the 23 SCORE Trophy-Trucks will be the unlimited Class 1 for open-wheel desert race cars, which also had 11 entries in the start draw. In the first 13 years of the SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300, SCORE Trophy-Trucks have nine Overall race wins while Class 1 has four. SCORE Trophy-Trucks have won six straight overall titles.
Drawing the first starting spot in Class 1 was the veteran Southern California team of Richard Boyle, Ridgecrest, and Tom Kirkmeyer, Apple Valley, in the No. 101 Chevy-powered Jefferies open-wheel desert race car. The Boyle/Kirkmeyer team is currently tied for eighth place in Class 1 season points.
Eric Solorzano, Tijuana, Mexico, has the most class wins in the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300. Solorzano has won Class 11 in eight of the first 13 years of this race in a VW Sedan. =Donald Moss, Sacramento, Calif., is third on the all-time list with six Class 3 wins in a Ford Bronco, including the last five straight years.
Roger Norman, Reno, Nev./Larry Roeseler, Alpine, Calif., return as the defending overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck winner in the No. 8 Norman Motorsports Ford F-150 and they drew the XXth starting position in the class.
Behind SCORE Trophy-Truck and Class 1, the class with the most entries in time for the drawing was Class 1-2/1600 with 10.
The highly-competitive 2009 SCORE Desert Series has 20 racers separated by just 39 points in the Overall standings after the 15th SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge, 23rd Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 and 41st Tecate SCORE Baja 500 desert races.
Drawing first start in Class 1-2/1600 was the team of Brian Wilson, 23, of Long Beach, Calif., and Las Vegas’ Sammy Ehrenberg, 44, who will split the driving in the No. 1601 Kreger-VW in Primm. Part of the five vehicle Wilson Motorsports team that will be competing in this year’s SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300, Wilson and Ehrenberg are also the Class 1-2/1600 season point leaders.
SCORE officials expect to announce this week the final race format, course distance and other race-related details following completion of extensive negotiations with the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The 2009 SCORE Desert Series also includes the quest for the Toyota Milestone Awards for car and truck racers who complete every required mile of the season.

Only if I get a blue ribbon for my efforts :) will I look for a Breakfast sponsor.
It will be great to hang with all of you guys and the Moss crowd for another Primm race. It was a last minute decision to enter, I actually filled out the entry forms and faxed them in at 11:45 am on the 6th. It was before noon, but not by much. A sponsor committing to the entry fee and few of the other costs that morning, is what made it happen. We will be putting everything together over the next few weeks.
I had to replace one of those economical coilovers and springs again for both sides on the front. That bit into the wallet a bit to the toon of about 2k on the front of the racer.
As always, half the fun is figureing out how much of it has to come out of my pocket to get there. We looked at running V2R, but the logistics and time needed were not available to me right now.

Rd 4 of 2009 SCORE Desert Series
SCORE confirms similar race format as past years
For next month’s 14th SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300
Sept. 12 race in Primm, Nev., split into two portions
As limited cars and trucks start at 6 a.m.
LOS ANGELES—Following extensive negotiations and discussions with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, SCORE International announced today that next month’s 14th Annual SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 desert race will utilize its traditional two-part racing format. Round 4 of the five-race 2009 SCORE Desert Series will be held Sept. 11-13 in Primm, Nev., 45 miles south of Las Vegas at the California border.
For the eighth consecutive year, the race will be split into two groups with the open wheel, limited truck and VW baja bug classes starting at 6 a.m. The featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division, which has 23 official entries to date, along with the unlimited Class 1 open-wheel desert race cars will start at 1 p.m. One vehicle will start every 30 seconds in the elapsed-time race.
The main pits and start/finish area for the 69.0-mile loop course will be located behind Buffalo Bills Resort on the North side of the property. The course will run in a counter-clockwise direction this year. The faster classes will run four laps around the course while the limited will be required to run either three or two laps within the seven-hour time limit to become official finishers.
New this year, the course will actually start, finish and include racing action inside the off-road short-course race track in Primm. Free grandstand seating will be available for spectators at the short-course track.
“We are extremely grateful for the assistance and cooperation we have received from both the BLM and Fish and Wildlife Service,” said Sal Fish, SCORE CEO/President. “The guidelines and stipulations for use of the public lands for desert races are becoming increasingly stringent and SCORE will continue to work closely with all groups directly involved with the use of the land for our events. Being able to run on the short-course track will help enhance the quality of the spectator viewing area at the start/finish line area as well.”
SCORE also announced that the start/finish line will be the only required stop on the 69.0-mile course, although visual monitors will be at various locations around the loop.
All vehicles will be required to utilize the real-time satellite tracking devices provided through International Racing Consultants. Live tracking will be displayed during the race at www.racetheworld.net.
Pre-race festivities on Friday, Sept. 11, for the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300, including tech and contingency and the SCORE Manufacturer’s Midway, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. behind Buffalo Bill’s Resort. The post-race awards celebration will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 13) in the conference center at Terrible’s Primm Valley Resort.
Ever-improving desert racer Ed Stout, Irvine, Calif., who drives the Stout’s No. 13 Stout Industries Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy-Truck, drew the first start in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division in the computerized drawing for starting positions for the race.

The first vehicle to leave the start line in the morning portion of the event will be a Class 10 vehicle driven by Corey Keysar, Colorado Springs, Colo. Keysar drives a Jimco-Honda.
Among the other early entries is Eric Solorzano, Tijuana, Mexico, who has the most class wins in the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300. Hmmm, just got the package from SCORE today, and there is no mention of pre-running anywhere on the schedule they included, but there IS an awards ceremony on Sunday???????!!!!! Just plenty of info on how to order your IRC tracker and another full page on how to fill out your entry form properly to avoid the "massive lines at registration". Talk about a complete disconnect from reality.

Maybe we need to call them on Monday?
Unless they're not gonna allow this & dont wanna say it?
That could change alot of our plans..
I know a few of my friends may not go then as well as myself being I could work most likely on most of those days instead of spending money..

I sent an e-mail to Paul Fish, and he replied back today that they are still working with the BLM on the pre-running. SCORE apparently thought it best not to put the pre-run on the schedule until they have the blessing from the BLM.

LOS ANGELES—Following the first three of five races in the 2009 SCORE Desert Series, 22 of SCORE’s toughest drivers remain in the hunt to earn 2009 SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards.
Leading the way are four racers in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division along with seven in Class 1-2/1600 for 1600cc VW-powered open-wheelers.
Female driver Heidi Steele, San Clemente, Calif., is the only female racer still eligible, driving a Ford Ranger in Class 6.
The four SCORE Trophy-Truck drivers who have completed every race mile so far this season are: Robby Gordon (No. 77 Chevy CK1500), Ed Stout (No. 13 Chevy Silverado), Adam Householder (No. 24 Chevy Silverado) and Greg Nunley (No. 11 Chevy Silverado.
Nearly 125 entries are expected to compete in 18 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks in the upcoming 14th SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300. Round four of the five-race 2009 SCORE Desert Series will be held Sept. 11-13 in Primm, Nev.
Toyota is presenting these prestigious awards to the world’s toughest desert racers for the 24th consecutive year. The Toyota Milestone awards will go to those pro car and truck drivers who finish every required mile in the five-race 2009 SCORE Desert Series, the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Series.
“Toyota is proud to honor the world’s best desert racing drivers,” said Les Unger, national motorsports manager at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. “For over two decades, we have had the privilege of presenting the SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards to the toughest racers on the planet.”
Racers from at least 12 U.S. States, Austria, Canada Germany and Mexico are expected to compete in this year’s SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300. For the eighth straight year, the race will be split into two groups, with the limited classes starting at 6 a.m. and the featured SCORE Trophy-Trucks and unlimited Class 1 cars starting at 1 p.m. Classes will be required to cover two, three or four laps over the 69-mile loop course that starts and finishes behind Buffalo Bill’s Resort within the seven hour time limit in the elapsed-time race to be official finishers.

If you want to save a tortise kill a raven. Just don't get caught. Seems that both are protected species however the raven dosen't seem to care.

Might want to look into contracting that work. I'm sure there is a way to kill ravens for less than a $1000 a bird.
The program calls for killing a maximum of 200 ravens each year and will cost $200,000 annually, Hohman said.

Heck just 1 raven a day could keep a guy livin' large.
I can see it now. Get up at sunrise. Make a hearty breakfast including our class 3 favorite JIMMY DEAN sausage. Throw out the leftovers in front of the motor home. Wait for the ravens to show up. Shoot one. Take that sucker to the bank. I'd work 4 days a week. With 2 weeks vacation each year. Seems pretty easy to me. When does the contract come back up for bid?

I catch my flight in about 2 hrs to Idaho, heading up to help finish preping the racer. Will be there until next Tuesday, then fly back and head to Primm on Thursday. Our room are booked at Whisky Pete as usual.
If it helps anyone, I'll be driving my f350 down to Primm leaving Thursday morning, coming back on Sunday afternoon. I won't be towing anything, the racer is coming down from Idaho with Daniel. If it helps anyone in the Sac area, I could tow a trailer down or if some one needs a seat to ride down and back in let me know.
See you all at the race.

September 7, 2009
6 of top 10 finishers return Saturday
Top 3--Norman/Roeseler, Collins, Schwarz/Christensen return this week;
R. Gordon to miss NASCAR race for 14th SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300
S/F line area and race-mile 47 are spectator areas Saturday;
Limited vehicles start at 6 a.m., SCORE Trophy-Truck and Class 1 at 1 p.m.
Live vehicle track at www.racetheworld.net (http://www.racetheworld.net/), live race updates at www.dirtnewz.com (http://www.dirtnewz.com/)
PRIMM, Nev.—In a race that is usually decided by the tightest of margins, the top three finishers, six of the top 10 overall finishers from last year return and an unexpected NASCAR team owner/driver will all be in the field for this weekend’s 14th Annual SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 desert race. Using its now traditional two-part racing format, Round 4 of the five-race 2009 SCORE Desert Series will be held this weekend in Primm, Nev., 45 miles south of Las Vegas at the California border.
For the eighth consecutive year, the race will be split into two groups with the open wheel, limited truck and VW baja bug classes starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday. The featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division, which has 25 official entries, along with the unlimited Class 1 open-wheel desert race cars will start at 1 p.m. One vehicle will start every 30 seconds in the elapsed-time race.
Roger Norman, Reno, Nev./Larry Roeseler, Alpine, Calif., return as the defending overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck champions in the No. 8 Norman Motorsports Ford F-150 and they drew the 19th starting position in the marquee SCORE racing division for high-tech, 850 horsepower unlimited production trucks for Saturday’s race.
Second overall last year and in SCORE Trophy-Truck, Las Vegas’ Brian Collins (the 2005 overall winner) returns in his No. 12 Collins Motorsports Dodge Ram 1500 while returning after winning the unlimited Class 1 last year and finishing third overall is the All-German Motorsports team of Armin Schwarz, Germany and Martin Christensen, Escondido, Calif. (originally from Denmark) in a BWM-powered Jimco open-wheel desert race car. Collins will start 22nd in SCORE Trophy-Truck and Schwarz/Christensen will drive the eighth vehicle off the starting line in Class 1.
Although he originally entered the race when he thought his class would race in the morning, NASCAR team owner/driver Robby Gordon was not expected to make it to the starting line in his No. 77 Team Gordon Chevy CK1500 because of the NASCAR Cup race Saturday in Richmond, Va.
In an unprecedented move for a cross-over driver, Gordon officially announced yesterday during a video interview on DirtNewz.com that David Gililand will drive his NASCAR Toyota in Richmond while he attempts to pad his SCORE Overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck point leads heading into the season finale at November’s 42nd Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 as Gordon is both the current SCORE Overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck point leader. He currently leads Collins by 29 points and Gordon, who has eight career SCORE Trophy-Truck wins including the 1996 Primm race, was the 1996 SCORE Trophy-Truck season points champion.
Gordon, who won January’s SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge and finished second in the Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 in March, will start seventh on Saturday.
“It’s always great to come back to a race and have the bullseye on your back, but I think we are ready for the challenge,” quipped the veteran Roeseler, 52, who has four class wins in three different classes in this race. “Roger has made the commitment to build a great race team. Last year’s SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 was our second race together and first win and we have been building on that momentum ever since. This course is treacherous and running counterclockwise this year as well as no course recon will add dramatically to how rough it will be out there in the Southern Nevada desert.”
In last year’s race, the three were separated by a total of just over eight minutes, 30 seconds at the finish on corrected time.
The 14th Annual SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 will feature 18 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks from 14 U.S. States, Canada, Denmark, Germany and Mexico. This year’s starting grid is expected to reach nearly 120 vehicles. Late entries will be accepted up until race morning.
New this year, the course will actually start, finish and include racing action inside the off-road short-course race track in Primm. Free grandstand seating will be available for spectators at the short-course track.
Also new, the Bureau of Land Management has authorized and will be overseeing an additional free spectator area this year, located at race-mile 47. Access will be marked by signage on Las Vegas Boulevard South, two miles north of the Jean exit off of Interstate-15.
Pre-race festivities on Friday, for the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300, including tech and contingency and the SCORE Manufacturer’s Midway, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. behind Buffalo Bill’s Resort. The post-race awards celebration will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday in the conference center at Terrible’s Primm Valley Resort.
Seven of last year’s class winners have entered so far, including six of last year’s top 10 overall finishers.
The first vehicle to leave the start line in the morning portion of the event will be a Class 10 vehicle driven by Corey Keysar, Colorado Springs, Colo. Keysar drives a Jimco-Honda.
Among the other entries is Eric Solorzano, Tijuana, Mexico, who has the most class wins in the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300. Solorzano has won Class 11 in eight of the first 13 years of this race in a stock VW Sedan. Donald Moss, Sacramento, Calif., is third on the all-time list with six Class 3 wins in a Ford Bronco, including the last five straight years.
Besides Norman/Roeseler, Schwarz/Christensen and Moss, the other returning class winners from last year entered for this year’s race are: Bekki Wik/Adam Wik, Las Vegas (Class 10, Bunderson-Honda), Kevin Carr, San Diego (Class 5, VW Baja Bug), John Holmes, Olivenhain, Calif. (Class 7SX, Ford Ranger) and Gavin Skilton, Orange, Calif. (Stock Mini, Honda Ridgeline).
The field this year includes two female drivers of record. In addition to Class 10 defending champion Bekki Wik and her husband Adam Wik, racing a Ford Ranger in Class 7SX is current class point leader Heidi Steele, San Clemente, Calif., whose husband Cameron Steele drives the No. 16 Desert Assassins GMC Sierra SCORE Trophy-Truck and is listed as a second driver in the morning portion of the race for Justin Smith in Class 1-2/1600.
In the solid field of 25 entries in SCORE Trophy-Truck, four veteran SCORE desert racers expected to make their first official start in the featured SCORE racing division are Mark McMillin, Steve Sourapas, brothers Mark Weyhrich/Gary Weyhrich and brothers Jesse/Adam Ashcraft.
McMillin, El Cajon, Calif., will drive the No. 23 Ford F-150, while Sourapas, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., is scheduled to debut his No. 6 Ford F-150, the Weyhrichs, Troutdale, Ore., in their No. 9 Ford F-150 and the Ashcrafts, Vista, Calif., in their No. 78 Ford F-150.
Because of environmental concerns, racers will not be allowed to have their normal, one-lap, controlled speed course reconnaissance on Friday, adding another degree of difficulty to the already significant challenge.
The only required stop on the 69.0-mile course will be at the start/finish line, although visual monitors will be at various locations around the loop.
All vehicles will be required to utilize the real-time satellite tracking devices provided through International Racing Consultants. Live tracking will be displayed during the race at www.racetheworld.net (http://www.racetheworld.net/).
Besides Norman/Roeseler, Collins and R. Gordon, the two other former overall winners who are in this year’s starting grid both won the race in Class 1 and both will be racing in SCORE Trophy-Truck this year. Steve Sourapas was the 2000 winner while 2002 champion Mike Julson is scheduled to pilot the No. 20 MasterCraft Racing Chevy Silverado. Julson is also listed as the second driver with Robbie Pierce in the No. 30 MasterCraft Racing Chevy Silverado.
In the first 13 years of the SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300, SCORE Trophy-Trucks have nine Overall race wins while Class 1 has four. SCORE Trophy-Trucks have won six straight overall titles.
Starting first in Class 1 will be the veteran Southern California team of Richard Boyle, Ridgecrest, and Tom Kirkmeyer, Apple Valley, in the No. 101 Chevy-powered Jefferies open-wheel desert race car. The Boyle/Kirkmeyer team is currently tied for eighth place in Class 1 season points.
For this race, the Laughlin Tourism Commission has made a special contingency posting with a value of over $5,000, pushing the overall cash purse and contingency postings to over $200,000. The 16th annual SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge will be held Jan. 14-17, 2010.
The top contingency posting from the Laughlin Tourism Commission, for the seventh overall finisher in the Primm race, will be a fully-paid entry fee for the driver of record into the 2010 SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge including four rooms for four nights each in Laughlin during the event.
The 2009 SCORE Desert Series also includes the quest for the Toyota Milestone Awards for car and truck racers who complete every required mile of the season. A total of 22 drivers still remain eligible after the first three races of the season.
Current SCORE official annual sponsors are: BFGoodrich Tires-official tire, Volkswagen of America-official vehicle, Sunoco Race Fuels -official fuel supplier, Bilstein-official shock, Instant Mexico Auto Insurance-official Mexican auto insurance, Slime-official tire sealant and Red Bull--official energy drink. Yeah they finished mid pack of the TT's start.
FYI, I was told on my way into the casino from one of the Skilton team members that SCORE made them remove all their bumpstops before being allowed to race!
& as they raced they had to be very careful & at times the front axles breather tube would smack their oil pan.
I was told they got lucky with only a small dent in the pan from the impacts.
The ( one & only ) Jeepspeed should raced class 3 because they would come in 2nd.
The unofficial score from what I saw was.
1st: Skilton.
2nd: Wright.
3rd: Moss.
DNF: Pike 2nd lap.
DNF: Kovel 1st Lap.

The more I think about it I find myself thinking something is wrong when Savage or tech tells you at the race that you have to make a material change. Whoever decided to press the button to get SCORE involved should have had the balls to call and tell them or notify them or to have confirmed that they were going to recieve notice before the race. It our job to look out for our fellow racers. They should not have been blindsided at the track. At some level, not having bumpstops is not as critical for the Jeep since it has by-pass shocks on all four corners, but it is of questionable sportsmanship to play rules games on a set-up that doesn't affect the real performance of car.

Savage or SCORE Tech should release publically why it found the Jeep in non-complience. The build of the Jeep was very public. Built in the open, hiding nothing from no one. The build of the Jeep was shown in real time, in one of the best garage builds to date. We have Jon to thank for sharing his build with the "community" Who ever forwarded the complaint to Savage did so with same pictures we have seen for months. I understand that the inclusion of the bump can into the frame rail in the rear could be contested, but the front bump stop removal is a huge mystery to me. There was no reason that the bump stops should have been removed for Primm. The car should have been given a pass to the next race. Let's be real.

There was no reason that the bump stops should have been removed for Primm. The car should have been given a pass to the next race. Let's be real.
I'll answer what I can here. First off I don't know how it started, or why it started first hand. I do know exactly why it ended the way it did, because of me. No one else. So don't start any conspiracy theories. I have no affiliations with anyone on this board, other than Chuck, and don't know most of you. Those that do know me, know that I have an opinion, but choose not to publicize it. If ask I will give it. The few times I have posted on the jeep build I have been straight forward with what I thought was illegal. I stated it very clearly, by saying for those that can't comprehend, "THAT IS ILLEGAL". I also said that as I was not racing I could not protest it, it should be of no surprise to anyone on this board, that the first time I raced and was approach to sign off on something illegal I wouldn't. Not gamesmanship, not questionable sportsmanship, me doing what I have clearly stated my thoughts were.
Now here is how it went down, I never even mentioned the jeep and my thoughts to anyone at the race or tech. Heck I was too busy worrying about my stuff. I heard earlier while getting some stuff done at the PCI trailer that the jeep had been bumped from tech for non compliant build issues. Later at the drivers meeting I was told by a racer that Savage had told Skilton that the jeep couldn't run as constructed unless every DOR in class signed off on it. I was told at the time that everyone had signed but me, and was asked if I was going to sign. I stated, as usual the hard stuff gets left up to me, and no I would not be signing it. Nothing against the owners or any other person, I'm really tired of all of the gibberish, squinting your eyes just right makes wrong look right crap. Maybe Skilton, didn't know my position, I don't know. I still don't know, because I've never met the man. I have talked with him on the radio, via Don Moss and stated emphatically that to Don I would not sign off on it. Then after stating it Don with I presume Skilton being in his presence, Skilton calls me on radio himself (this is the only time I have ever spoke with him) I stated it clearly again I would not sign.
Now is where I have a huge issue with him. My team and myself will never back down to any types of threat verbal or physical. I've had my ass kicked more than once in my life for standing my position and it never has changed my mind. To go from speaking to me and getting my position statement clearly verbalized to him. He then goes and gets in my starting driver face about how he should sign it, "because the rules are going to be changed next year" and continues to push and be less than professional because he won't sign, is BS.
Bill Savage chose to let them run without my signature if they removed the bump stops. He said that if they left the start line without removing them he would DQ them at the finish. This was relayed to me at PIT 1 where I was, by one of Skilton's crew. He came up to me in a very professional manner and ask if we could speak. He told me what went down and said that Skilton had ask him to speak with me and if I was ok with what Savage had decided. I told him if the stops were out I was ok with it and would speak to Savage after our race was over.
After the race I spoke with Savage, because there was question floating around about if in fact the stops were out. Savage informed me that he had personally verified that they were in fact out when the jeep left the start line. I let Savage know that I was good with it then, for this race. I will not type everything that was said in that 10 minute conversation, but it was very detailed on Savages side in what had transpired that morning.
Now for your sportsmanship issue.
I left went to my truck, got my rule book out and read up on how to formally protest a technical class build issue. I found that I had to submit it in writing along with my $500.00 in cash within 30 minutes of my event ending. I got a piece of paper wrote it out, grabbed my $500 and headed back to the start finish line. I was not going to presume that the time table was after group B finished, and was not going to miss on a technicality. After the tech guys got Bill to come back, I spoke with him about it. I told him I was not there to formally protest the win they just got, but wanted this thing to come to head. I was going to race the 1000 and felt it should be resolved now, so no one had to deal with it at the 1000 and was willing for it to cost me $500 so there would be no misunderstandings.
Bill read my formal protest and said he would not accept it, because it was a non issue now. He said that he had informed Skilton that if the jeep showed up in Baja with the bumps in the frame he would not be racing class 3 with it. He could race another class that accepted them or TT or whatever but it was not class 3 legal. I told Savage that I was good with that, but would put my $500 in an envelope with my a formally typed protest to be at the ready if it was needed in Baja. Bill told there wouldn't be a need. This all went down with 4 of the tech guys and 4 other as witnesses.
Now as a conclusion to this diatribe I have just spewed forth into print here, understand this. This was not a majority vote issue, it required a unanimous vote. I do not care if the majority signs off, if it goes against what I have stated my opinion is. No one should ever be surprised, when I won't sway. Call me an ass if you must, I'm fine with that.
As with Don this weekend if my guys or myself see you break in front of us and go down hard, we will stop. Even if it cost us a race. If we have the parts you need on the racer we will gladly give them up to see everyone finish. I would rather loose or get second doing what I feel is right, rather than finish one place better and have anyone question my ethics or what I stand for as a person.
As I tell my kids right is right and wrong is wrong. There is no grey. I have done wrong in my life at times because I chose to, not because I thought I could paint it right, but because I enjoyed it.

Defeats field of 109 starters
NASCAR’s R. Gordon declared Overall/SCORE Trophy-Truck winner;
Schwarz/Christensen top Class 1 at 14th SCORE Terrible's Primm 300
Smith, Lawrence, R. Wilson, Skilton Bros, Chamlee, also class winners
At Round 4 of the five-race 2009 SCORE Desert Series
PRIMM, Nev.—When the dust all settled and the time adjustments were made following data tracking review of each vehicle that was completed Sunday morning, NASCAR Cup team owner/driver Robby Gordon was declared the overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck winner at Saturday’s 14th Annual SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 desert race.
Earning his ninth career SCORE Trophy-Truck race win and his second in this race, Gordon’s adjusted time in his No. 77 Team Gordon Chevy CK1500 over the challenging 276-mile race was 4 hours, 49 minutes and 18 seconds, averaging a ground-pounding 57.24 miles per hour while covering the four laps over the rugged 69-mile desert race course in Primm, Nev., 45 miles south of Las Vegas.
Gordon, whose roots are in SCORE desert racing and now lives in Charlotte, N.C., started fifth in the star-studded field of 23 starters in SCORE Trophy-Truck in the elapsed-time race and led physically for most of the race, edging hometown racer Rob MacCachren of Las Vegas, by just one minute, two seconds as MacCachren covered the course in the No. 20 MasterCraft Racing Chevy Silverado in an adjusted time of 4:50:20.
Despite following heavy dust through the first lap before taking the physical lead, Gordon, 40, who is still recovering from a serious accident he had during a desert testing session last week, ran consistent laps with adjusted times of 1:12:57, 1:13:21, 1:10:37 and 1:12:23. He now has two wins, one second and one seventh in the four SCORE races so far this season.
SCORE officials reviewed the data in the ‘black boxes’ that each entry is required to use during the race and which are provided by Southern California’s International Racing Consultants into the early-morning hours on Sunday, and issued time penalties to numerous racers for speeding on a short, paved section of the official race course.
Keeping SCORE Trophy-Trucks from sweeping the podium for the second straight year was the All German Motorsports unlimited Class 1 BMW-powered Jimco open-wheel desert race car driven by Germany’s Armin Schwarz and Martin Christensen of Escondido, Calif. With Schwarz starting and driving the first half of the race and Christensen bringing their car across the finish line in third place overall with an adjusted time of 5:00:08, averaging 55.18 mph.
It was the first Class 1 win of the year for Schwarz, a former World Rally Championship series star, and Christensen, a veteran SCORE desert racer.
SCORE’s 36th anniversary season continued with 72 survivors out of 109 starters, competing in 18 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks finishing within the seven-hour time limit in the elapsed-time race.
Round 4 of the five-race 2009 SCORE Desert Series, the world’s foremost desert racing series, featured racers from 15 States and six countries racing on a typically rugged Southern Nevada race course under brilliantly sunny skies with a light northerly wind and temperatures in the low 100s.
“It was rough,” said Gordon, who turned his NASCAR Cup ride for Saturday night’s race in Richmond, Va. to David Gililand said afterwards. “Every time I would G-out hard, I would hurt my neck so I kind of cruised all day. I was sure we were going to get beat here but the big picture is I think the SCORE Overall season point championship is about done. When it was all said and done, though, we got the win and added to our overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck season point lead. We made one fuel stop and (changed) two tires but no flat tires – never got out of the car. We just changed the tires because we were in the pit and those are our most vulnerable (tires). I couldn’t afford to hurt myself so I had to cruise all day. We ran about 75 percent. We just didn’t G-out – anytime there were bumps we just slowed down to almost crawl speed. We tested a lot faster than we raced here. It didn’t hurt my vision any; it was all my left top shoulder and neck.”
Gordon returned to the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 for the first time since the inaugural event in 1996, where he also won the overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck title.
Using his home-desert knowledge to his benefit, MacCachren nearly pulled off the victory Saturday. MacCachren started 21st in SCORE Trophy-Truck, and finished second physically behind Gordon and after the data tracking review fell just over a minute short of the win.
Behind Schwarz/Christensen, fourth overall and second in Class 1 was Harley Letner, Orange, Calif., with a penalty-free time of 5:10:49 in a Alpha-Chevy while fifth overall and third in Class 1 was the Las Vegas team of Pat Dean/Danny Anderson, who finished with an adjusted time of 5:18:02 in a Bunderson Chevy.
SCORE Trophy-Trucks, the marquee SCORE racing division captured five of the top 10 finishing positions with Class 1 claiming three and Class 10 the other two spots. SCORE Trophy-Trucks have now won 10 overall titles in this race, including the last seven straight. Class 1 has won the other four overalls.
The sixth through 10th place overall finishers in Primm were: Roger Norman, Reno, Nev. (third in SCORE Trophy-Truck, Ford F-150), Jesse Aschcraft, San Marcos, Calif. (fourth in SCORE Trophy-Truck, Ford F-150), Mike Lawrence, Banning, Calif. (first in Class 10, Lothringer-VW), Mark McMillin, El Cajon, Calif./Brian Ewalt, Bonita, Calif., (fifth in SCORE Trophy-Truck, Ford F-150) and Corey Keysar, Colorado Springs, Colo. (second in Class 10, Jimco-Honda).
For the eighth consecutive year, the race was split into two groups with the limited classes running in the morning. SCORE Trophy-Truck division along with the unlimited Class 1 open-wheel class, raced in the afternoon.
Lawrence, the reigning SCORE Class 10 season point champion, won for the third time this season, and was the fastest during the morning section of the race, winning Class 10 in a penalty-free 5:30:09, for an 11-second win over Keysar’s adjusted time of 5:30:20.
Brothers Gavin and Darren Skilton each won their respective classes on Saturday. Both pulling a family double for the second straight race, Gavin, of Anaheim, Calif., drove a Honda Ridgeline to remain undefeated in 2009 with his fourth win in Stock Mini while Darren, of Orange, Calif., won Class 3 piloting a Jeep Wrangler. Darren won his class in this race for the fifth time and first since 2000, while Gavin won for the second straight year. Both had penalty-free races.
Justin Smith, of Capistrano Beach, Calif., started last, defeated a 16-car field in a Fraley-VW in Class 1-2/1600. Drivng solo, Smith also finished 16th overall with his penalty-free race.
In the nine-car SCORE Lite class, Ronny Wilson, Long Beach, Calif., drove the first lap and L.J. Kennedy, Orange, Calif., the final three to a class win and 19th overall in a Jimco-VW. Wilson also raced in Class 1 as did his brother Randy and Wilson Motorsports overall had five vehicles competing in the event. Randy finished sixth in Class 1 and Ronny completed three of the four laps and was officially a did-not-finish.
Third generation desert racers, cousins Brad and Brian Wilson raced in Class 1-2/1600, finishing third and fourth respectively in the very competitive Class 1-2/1600.
Brad, Randy and Brian Wilson finished 25th, 26th and 27th overall respectively in the race.
Norman Turley, Long Beach, Calif., won Class 7SX in a Ford Ranger for his second win in the 2009 SCORE Desert Series.
Other class winners included Carlos Albanez, El Centro, Calif. (Class 5, VW Baja Bug), Alonso Angulo/Mario Reynoso, Ensenada, Mexico (Class 5/1600, VW Baja Bug), Dan Chamlee, Carpenteria, Calif. (Class 7, Ford Ranger), Clyde Stacy, Bristol, Va. (Class 8, Chevy Silverado), Justin Matney, Briston, Tenn., (Stock Full, Dodge Ram 2500), Rob Reinertson, Woodside, Calif. (Protruck, Ford F-150) and Mike Shaffer, Dayton, Nev. (Class 17, Jeep Cherokee).
The win for Chamlee, who also raced penalty-free, was his third of the season.
The fastest Sportsman class vehicle in the race was the Homebuilty-Chevy driven by Peter Lang, Santa Rosa, Calif.
The stage is now set for the season-ending 42nd anniversary of the legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race to be held November 18-22 in Baja California, Mexico. The world’s most popular desert race will start and finish in Ensenada.
The 2009 SCORE Desert Series also includes the quest for the Toyota Milestone Awards for car and truck racers who complete every required mile of the season. After the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300, a total of 19 drivers still remain eligible.

SCORE TROPHY-TRUCK
ROBBY GORDON, No. 77 (First in class, first overall. Gordon drove the entire race to earn his ninth career SCORE Trophy-Truck race win and second in Primm.) It was rough. Every time I would G-out hard, I would hurt my neck so I kind of cruised all day. I’m sure we’re going to get beat here but the big picture is I think the SCORE Overall point championship is about done. It didn’t hurt my vision any; it was all my left top shoulder and neck.
ROB MacCACHREN, No. 20 (Second in class, second overall. MacCachren drove the entire race.) We started way in the back and we just had to be real cautious the first lap. We stayed behind the guy who started in front of us (Jesse Ashcraft) for three-quarters of a lap but we just couldn’t get by him. At the end of the first lap, we got ahead of him and the second lap we tried to wick it up and catch back up and see where we were. We knew we were in pretty good position then and we ended up coming in the end of the second lap and I hit a big rock and we got a flat tire. John ( Vance, co-rider) got out and changed it really, really quickly and we got going again and other than that, no problems. This whole deal came together so quickly and it was great. We took it easy. We knew that most of the Primm races have been won from people being reliable and consistent and keep moving on the track and that’s what we did, but unfortunately we were accessed time penalties like many others and that cost us the win and pushed us back to second. Robby obviously kept the lead on the road all day but we knew we had him on time so, especially the last lap, we just cruised and made sure that we didn’t have any flat tires or any issues. (Any close calls?) When we were coming in the pit at the end of the third lap, (Brian Collins) pulled out of his pit right as I’m coming to him and we both slid into the corner and we hit door to door and we both spun out. It just so happened I recovered quicker.
ROGER NORMAN, No. 8 (third in class, sixth overall. Drove the entire race.) We had three flats today and we had an accelerator cable break. That never happens. We were just scratching our heads but I guess that’s racing. We were hoping to do much better. (You took a couple of laps earlier this morning in a Class 6 vehicle. (Did that help you at all in the SCORE Trophy-Truck?) Yes, that’s pre-running and it’s the same thing (as driving). It’s easy; you’re not sweating, you’re just going for a ride. We also lost our front shocks.
MARK McMILLIN/BRIAN EWALT, No. 23 (fifth in class, ninth overall. McMillin drove the first two laps and Ewalt drove the last two.) Ewalt said: I had a couple of flats and it was losing power real bad there – I think it’s a fuel feed issue. Other than that, we also got a real bad vibration going on.
McMillin said: This is my second time out in this truck. The first time out, we ran a real conservative race and finished sixth and we got fourth today. I pushed pretty hard on lap 1 and 2. I got it up almost on the nose at one point but other than, no close calls.
KORY SCHEELER, No. 51 (Sixth in class, 11th overall. Scheeler drove the entire race.) Ed Stout bashed into the back of me out here, right as we got on the speed limit. He tried to knock me into the ditch. We sat there forever. They had to take my truck apart to get him off and then use a bulldozer to pull him sideways. It was a long time. It was just stupid. When the guys catch you, get out of the way. We followed him the whole way around. As you get on the 30-mile power road there’s a hard right and he just plowed into me. He took off ahead of us. We passed him the exact same spot, but this time we made it stick. I watched him in the mirror. Other than that, we stopped to tighten a brake line real quick and we had two flats. This truck flies. If I can just get a clean run...
MARC EWING, No. 68 (seventh in class, 12th overall. Ewing drove the entire race.) We had two flats but no mechanical problems. We had the two flats and then the last lap was a little slow because I think we were almost out of fuel and it seemed real light and felt kind of skittish. I was definitely conservative there – especially after the last flat tire. I’m real excited. This is my first SCORE race and my fourth or fifth overall.
CAMERON STEELE/RICK GEISER, No. 16 (Eighth in class, 13th overall. Steele drove the first two laps and Geiser the final two.) Geiser said: Primm has not gotten any smoother. It was a good course, really. The last (second) lap the jack fell off on Cameron, so we really had to take it easy going on the last lap going up to the 16- or 18-mile marker so we wouldn’t flatten a tire. We pretty much just chilled out that last lap, and going down the pavement section, we got a flat tire. We changed that and we just kept on cruising. The first jack broke, the second jack we had strapped on and it fell off, and I guess the third jack fell off, too. It was a good time.
BRIAN COLLINS, No. 12 (eighth in class, 14th overall. Collins, who drove the entire race, got dehydrated while his truck was broken down late in the race.) You don’t have cold water in there. As long as you’re moving it’s fine. When you stop, it kills you. (I stopped) because the oil lights came on. Oil started coming out of the motor. B.J. (Baldwin) towed me in, about a mile to the top of the pit. We weren’t far, just too far to drive on no oil. (On a collision in the pits with Rob MacCachren at the end of lap 3.) Rob just passed me in a no-passing zone; that’s what it looked like to me.
CLASS 1
ARMIN SCHWARTZ/MARTIN CHRISTENSEN, No. 109 (First in class, third overall. Schwartz drove the first two laps and Christensen finished as the All-German Motorsports team won for the second year in a row.) Schwartz said: It was a perfect day except for my cold. The car was perfect. I did not plan to get out, but I saw that I could not do it even the first two laps.” Christensen said: My clutch didn’t work when I came into the stop sign at the first lap (third race lap, his first). I stepped on the clutch and the car kept going. It was wild. It was just one time. We don’t use the clutch when we shift and I hadn’t used it all lap. I had to step on it one more time before it worked. No flats; absolutely unbelievable BFGoodrich tires. Unbelievable that they can even do that, the stuff that we hit out there at speed. The suspension was great. We drove the heck out of this thing.
HARLEY LETNER, No. 113 (Second in class, fourth overall.) I drove all the way, unfortunately. I haven’t driven this car in like two years. I’m used to the heavy cars now; these light ones beat you up. But now that we’re here, it’s fine. At mile 7 (on lap 1) it started overheating, I was pushing it a little too hard, but I just backed off the rest of the way and as it started cooling down they started giving me splits and I started pushing it harder and harder. One plug wire popped off and that was it.
PAT DEAN/DANNY ANDERSON, No. 111 (Third in class, fifth overall. Anderson drove the first two laps and Dean finished.) Dean said: We had a couple of flats and a little handling trouble. Danny Anderson started. He was doing a really good job but for some reason we just had the car really far off today and it didn’t handle really well, so we did what we could do. We’re happy to be here.
SHAWN CROLL, No. 114 (Fourth in class, 18th overall. Croll drove the entire race.) It was good all day. It was very nice and we had no flat tires. We were just picking people off and motoring through the field. Then, about three miles from pit 2 on the last lap and the throttle body snapped so we ended up jerry-rigging it and cruising over to the finish, where they welded it all back together – enough to get us here to the finish of the race. We had a good hour of downtime so, all things considered, a top five is not that bad.
BRIAN PARKHOUSE/TOM RIDINGS, No. 104 (Fifth in class, 23rd overall. Parkhouse drove the first two laps and Ridings drove the final two laps.) Ridings said: Well, we’re here. We were leaking tranny fluid out of the torque converter since halfway through our last lap. We had to stop three times and put a bunch of oil in it. It was a fun racecourse. It was rough enough and I’d rather it be rough any day because it’s more challenging that way. Sometimes some sections are just disgusting but I thought this course was fair. Consistently finishing is really nice but we’ll have our day. Everything has just got to go right. We don’t get passed when the car is right.
CLASS 1-2/1600
JUSTIN SMITH, No. 1649 (First in class, 16th overall. Drove the entire race.) I had a real good time. We had an awesome run. We knew today was going to be really rough. We knew it was going to be a little bit of an endurance sprint race. We knew we had to be there at the end. I took a rear start and we just started picking our way through and the next thing you know, we were the first car on the road. I knew then we had it on corrected time so we just watched it, kept it easy and played it smart. It was a flawless day -- not one issue or one hiccup.
CODY ROBINSON/ROBERTO ROMERO, No. 1606 (Second in class, 21st overall.) Robinson said: It was a pretty good day. We had no flats. The motor ran good. The car ran good. There was a lot of dust, but it was a pretty good day. I drove the first two laps and Roberto Romo drove the last two. We just came here looking for a solid finish to hopefully keep us close in the points going into the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.
BRIAN WILSON/SAMMY EHRENBERG, No. 1601 (Fourth in class. Wilson drove the first two laps and Ehrenberg drove the final two.) Ehrenberg said: We had to stop every lap for gas but other than that, it was pretty good. We’ve only got the 18-gallon (fuel) cell, so that was a pretty big handicap. The course was very rough but nothing out of the ordinary. I’m glad to be here at the finish. I live here (in Las Vegas) and this has always been my worst course. It’s nice to finish.
Wilson said: We had the car built and Kreger put that fuel tank in for us and we figured that 18-gallon tank was going to be OK but it’s not enough to make two laps here. We had to take that chance. We weren’t sure if we were going to make it so we just made sure we stopped every lap and put gas in it. We’re going for the points so we wanted to be safe. We took it easy today and made sure we got in the top five. And we did.
CLASS 3
DARREN SKILTON, No. 302 (First in class. Drove the entire race.) It was a nice, easy drive. We tried to put pressure on everybody and let them make the mistakes. By the time we got halfway around the second lap, there was nobody within 20 minutes of us so we stopped and checked everything. We stopped and pulled a 5/1600 car that was on its lid and then we stopped at each pit just to check the car over. It was a nice easy drive and the car ran great – we didn’t even stop for gas. It was a good Primm course because it was a lot of fun stuff and then some rough but not so rough that it was miserable and it was fast enough to be fun. Now we get ready for the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.
CLASS 5
CARLOS ALBANEZ, No. 519 (First in class. Drove the entire race.) We lost the starter. I guess we bottomed out, so our linkage was pinched on our fuel line so we weren’t getting enough fuel. The starter cables and bolts came off so we were rocking the car, and that was super difficult in the sand. That was at mile 59 (on the last lap). Everything was real good up until that point. Without pre-running, we weren’t sure how the course was going to be so we had to pull into our pits a couple of times to modify our shocks. We did that and we did well. We’re really, really happy about it.
CLASS 5/1600
ALONSO ANGULO/MARIO REYNOSO, No. 551 (First in class. Angulo drove the first two laps and Reynoso, the 2007 class champion, drove the final lap.) Crew member Jorge Torres interpreted for Reynoso, who said: There were no problems at all. Nothing. We loved the race.
CLASS 7
DAN CHAMLEE, No. 700 (First in class. Drove the entire race.) We had one electrical problem in the middle of the second lap that cost us about 10 minutes but other than that, everything went fast. We lost a couple of positions at the start. We couldn’t see a thing because of all the dust and we drove into a berm and got high-centered on a berm before we got out of the stadium. We caught everybody again by the middle of the lap but it wasn’t a great way to start. We’re real excited about this one because it’s a new truck and it’s won every race it’s been in. I’ve got a championship on the line going into the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 so we’re excited about that.
CLASS 7SX
NORM TURLEY, No. 742 (First in class. Drove the entire race.) Our new tires worked great in the back. You could stop in the sand and still get going. We had a really good day. We had one issue. We lost a front left spring. We were down for about 10 or 15 minutes. Other than that, we just kept it at one constant speed. The whoops were really bad. On that last lap, the whoops all changed. They became really whoops. The dust was terrible. And then when we got around the mountains, we’d come into the sun. We had a good race among the 7SX trucks and then it seemed like we all had problems around the same time. It was a good race, though.
CLASS 8
CLYDE STACY, No. 839 (First in class. Drove the entire race.) It was absolutely great. The course was great and we had a lot of fun out there. We had no problems at all. (Being the only starter in Class 8) We drove the way we would normally drive – we didn’t push it too hard. It was pretty enjoyable. We’re going to run the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 in a couple of months and then see what we’ll do next year, but we’ll probably run two trucks again next year.
CLASS 10
MIKEY LAWRENCE, No. 1000 (First in class, eighth overall. Drove the entire race.) I rolled it all the way over on the last lap. I don’t know what happened and I lost a minute when I rolled it over. I landed on my wheels but it took a minute to start it and then I kept going. We stopped once for fuel and that was it. I basically just have to show up to the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 (to win the championship). We won the Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 and the Tecate SCORE Baja 500 so we’ll be going for the (Mexico) sweep in November.
COREY KEYSAR, No. 1001 (Second in class. Drove the entire race.) We had a great race – no flats, no problems at all. This is a great course for this car. It was very well marked and I don’t think no pre-running was an issue. They did a great job marking the course and there were plenty of people out there to tell you where to turn. I didn’t have any dust the first two laps and then I started running into slower cars. But these guys (on the team) did a great job of telling me how far back the other cars were and I was just trying to stay ahead of them, corrected time, without beating the car up. And (the No. 1000 team) does a heck of a job. They’re so consistent; it’s hard to beat those guys.
SCORE LITE
RONNY WILSON/L.J. KENNEDY, No. 1203 (First in class, 19th overall. Wilson drove the first lap and Kennedy drove the final three.) Kennedy said: It was pretty decent. Ronny had a flat on the first lap. I had a flat on the second lap and then on the third lap, I had a power steering ram bolt fall out so I drove 20 miles with that. We got to a pit and they put one in and we got going again. Other than that, we had no problems. The course was the same as always but there were a lot more rocks this year. All in all, though, it’s a great course. It’s got rough parts and it’s got fast parts – a little bit of everything. I like it.
RICK ST. JOHN/ADAM PFANKUCH, No. 1200 (Second in class, 22nd overall. Pfankuch drove the first two laps and St. John drove the final two.) St. John said: We had our share of problems. We basically were chasing an electrical problem that was making the motor run half-power almost the whole second two laps. We tried a few things and stopped a few times but could never figure out what it was. It’s moving, so you’re afraid to stop too long and start taking things apart. It would come around for a mile or two so we just put up with it for two laps. I’ve got so many gauges in this thing that I could tell it wasn’t hurting the motor so I just kept going. We went for it today. We can’t win the points unless (Brent) Parkhouse DNFs and to try to out-survive them is just boring. I just told Adam today to go for the win and we’re going to do that at the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, too.
BRENT PARKHOUSE/BRIAN BURGESS, No. 1249 (Third in class, 24th overall. Parkhouse drove the first two laps and Burgess drove the second two.) Burgess said: We were leading the points so we just wanted a strong finish. We had a 40-point lead coming in and second place today (Rick St. John) was second in points, so they gained a few points on us. I had one flat on the first lap but that was it. Other than that, it was just dealing with the traffic that we got behind after the flat. There wasn’t much passing out there today.
BILL HERNQUIST/RICK ELLISON, No. 1201 (Fourth in class. Hernquist drove the first two laps and Ellison the second two.) Ellison said: It was good day. No flats and the car ran great. Bill had a flat, but it was a situation (at mile 47) where they had to bring him two tires. So he was down like 20 minutes. That was it. It was fun. I just didn’t want to tear Bill’s car up. The Volkswagen power – I couldn’t believe the power it has down low.
STOCK FULL
JUSTIN MATNEY, No. 879 (First in class. Drove the entire race.) It was pretty good. We had a few problems but nothing too crazy. We had a steering box issue -- the steering stabilizer was fading away. Other than that, it was pretty solid. It was typical Primm: It’s rough and it’s rocky. We started in second and we moved into first at about mile marker 10 or so and we just stayed there the rest of the run. The dust was something to worry about all day. We’re going to run the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 next.
STOCK MINI
GAVIN SKILTON, No. 779 (First in class. Drove the entire race.) It was a fun day. It ended fun. This morning, the dust was pretty outrageous. The early morning dust slowed down my lap speed. It will be interesting to see lap times between the first and second (laps). It was a flawless day, no problems; I never got out of the car. It was a slightly different course than we’ve run the last couple of years. (Did you like it better?) It’s the Nevada desert. It’s rocky and silty and always rough. It’s always a challenging course. We had zero issues with the Ridgeline. No flats.
PROTRUCK
ROB REINERTSON, No. 234 (First in class. Drove the entire race.) No mechanical problems at all. It was perfect. We had a Class 8 (vehicle) get ahead of us when we pulled into the pits and then I couldn’t pass him. We kept catching him and then we had to back off. It was brutal; we lost probably 15 minutes, at least. We only had to stop for fuel -- that was it. We never had to get out of the truck.
CLASS 17
MIKE SHAFFER, No. 1701 (First in class. Drove the entire race.) It was a perfect day. We had no problems at all. The course was rough in a station wagon – this (Jeep Cherokee) is a soccer-mom mobile. We had some dust issues but the sun was hidden behind the clouds for a while there but the cloud cover kind of helped. We were the only one (in class 17) but I still drive hammer down. It was a great race. We didn’t push it too hard – maybe 95 percent. The car ran perfect. We’ve won the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 three years in a row and we’re going for number four.

What are all these new rules for 2010 that everyone is talking about? I'd like a heads up if it is anything that is a moderate change. I take it bumps will then be allowed to be mounted in the frame? What about the cage is Cam talking about?

The more I think about it I find myself thinking something is wrong when Savage or tech tells you at the race that you have to make a material change. Whoever decided to press the button to get SCORE involved should have had the balls to call and tell them or notify them or to have confirmed that they were going to recieve notice before the race. It our job to look out for our fellow racers. They should not have been blindsided at the track. At some level, not having bumpstops is not as critical for the Jeep since it has by-pass shocks on all four corners, but it is of questionable sportsmanship to play rules games on a set-up that doesn't affect the real performance of car.
Where have you been Chris? This has been discussed for almost a year now. In no way was the Jeep crew blindsided by this. They have just ignored the issue.

I applaud Dan Wright on finally bringing this issue to a head.
I was the guy that attempted to measure the wheelbase and track width on the ATK Jeep at contingency but Mr. Skilton had a total fit. What are you trying to hide? If the Jeep is legal then whats the problem? If I wasn't connected to the Moss Brothers team and not wanting to make waves for them things would have been much different.
I witnessed Daren Skilton hammering on Dan's crew trying to get them to sign off on the illegal frame mods. He flat out lied to them and his actions on both days has lowered his credibility in my eyes. I would expect better from a former champion.
Its not just the holes for the bump stops that I have an issue with. You combined two frames off different vehicles to make one. The frame is to be stock with NO modifications except the lower front portion of the frame for a better approach angle. Why do you think your frame mods are legal? I also think the track width has been widened beyond the allowed 2" but because of Daren's little rampage at contingency I couldn't confirm this.
These comments I have posted are MY opinion only and are not nessasarily the opinion of any other Moss Brothers team member.

You have a lot of balls to go walking up during contingency with a tape measure. I don't know if I would have been as friendly as they were to you. You have no right to insert yourself with a tape measure. There if a formal process to confirming the status of a vehicle for the class. You are one ignorant sob.
You take issue with the frame mods, the stretching of a TJ to an unlimited TJ, claiming that it's "two different frames". People have been doing this with Jeeps since they started to race them. CJ5 to CJ6, CJ7 to CJ8, or TJ to an Unlimited. ARE YOU KIDDING? I guess you'd make someone throw out an entire chassis, the than to piece back the part that was damaged? Go get a life. Most of us want to see more vehicles racing, besides a bronco.
I still can't belief that you are holding wright up for doing something special. It was lowly, dirt bag, act of a small person to try to take them out of a race.

IMHO, no one was blindsided by the bump can issue as it was discussed on here numerous times and the only reply offered was "they don't increase the travel, so there's no advantage gained". A number of racer/car owners expressed their concerns with the legality. The dispute never was about the amount of travel. The dispute was and is that advantage is gained by having far more room to design a better working suspension because they no longer had to deal with the space lost to legally mounted bump cans. The rules state that the top rail of the frame is to be in the stock configuration and it clearly is not with the cans thru it.
There was plenty of opportunity to come on here and have an open discussion about the issue and/or take it off line and discuss it, but neither Jon (the builder) nor Darren ever pursued that. Strikes me, that once they knew people had issues with it, the ball was in their court to ask the class or individuals how to resolve it and yet they chose to try to affect a rule change by ignoring the issue and having it become a new rule by default. Is that really a stand up way to get what you want? Maybe in Desert racing it is, because the promoters seem to leave it entirely up to the rest of the class to police the legalities of a build which puts otherwise friendly fellow class members against each other.
Yes, I emailed Jon and we had an e mail discussion about it atleast a couple months ago, but I never expressed to him that I was okay with his explanation (see above) nor did I as a lowly moderator on this board or Moss team member have any authority to make a decision on it and I explicitly told Jon that I was merely inquiring as a concerned individual only and not as a Moss team member or God forbid, a class representative.
Only Darren or Jon can explain why they didn't start a thread on this board at a minimum, or ideally contact some of the racers off line to clear the air?
While we're at it, Darren or Jon, is your track width no more than 4 inches (2 inches per side) wider than stock?
This situation makes it clear that more than Cam's super double secret unused driver's only forum (HaHa) is needed to keep communication going between the drivers so that the class can evolve or not, in an organized fashion. The racers themselves need to implement this for the sake of the class and those currently in builds who want to know where the class is going.
Glad everyone had a safe race and here's hoping that this thing can be put to bed once and for all so the class can have a great controversy free 1K in November.

Chris, what is this formal process of confirming a vehicle is class legal, and if/ when it was performed on the Jeep, why did the jeep plan to roll up to the line obviouly illegal??? Score only seems to take action if it is brought to their attention, which is what happened when the Skilton's arrived in Primm still sporting illegal in-frame bump cans.
Everyone wants to see the class thrive, but if rule changes are made by simply building the racer how you want the new rule to read and then ignoring complaints from others, this class is history. Look at what happened to class 8 for the same reasons. This class has lots of technology allowed in the rules while still maintaining stock concept and many respect that and want it to stay that way to keep costs under control.
Everyone respects and admires the Skilton's long racing history, especially in class 3, but I'd sure hate to think that they might leverage that history into redefining class 3 to their own liking. Not saying this is the case because appearances can be deceiving, but.....

If somebody had a specific issue then they should have formally protested after the finish, not to play some game at the track beforehand. The fact that the Jeep was built for everyone to see and benefit the class by giving them a blue print. Remember, we don't have enough entries in our class. The real shame is that Savage didn't have the balls to tell the whiners to piss off.

There's a statement out of left field! Bottom line is the bump stops are illegal, so how is looking out for the future of the class by reporting it whining?
Hoping to get help with your leaf spring issue by stirring this situation up is a shame, so why don't you as a racer, organize a conference call to discuss the class issues with current and future racers only, so we don't go through this experience again? We could organize it on the class 3 boards and contact those not on here and then take it off line for some productive discussion.
If not Chris, anybody else want to step up? How do other classes conduct business?

Your view is flawed, starting with your inaccurate proclamation that bump stops are illegal. READ THE RULES It just doesn't say how the mounting should take place.
You think I weighed in on this because of leaf springs? I am concerned about having competive and viable fields of race cars.
No, I don't think making people use quarter elliptics to be competitive is a smart way to build a race class.
The advantage that was shown by Jon's build was availabe to everyone. Some don't need it, and some are probably too lazy to do it. Most of this boils down to the EB competitors that think we're concours off road. Let's go Flinstone.
I will handle these one at a time. Please understand I have no personal axe to grind with anyone here. Though I am developing one with a certain individual on this board, whom I have never had the pleasure to meet. From their comments and tone I'm assuming when/if we do there will be nothing pleasant about it.
Everyone knows they are welcome to come and look at our car at our shop any time, the measurements are all legal. Anyone can PM, email or call me. This car has been built in front of everyone on the internet. We have told competitors if you have a problem or are going to protest let us know before the race and we will fix it at the shop not 20 minutes before the start.
I did not want to get into a discussion on a public forum but there are some simple facts that need to be very clear:
1. One of Moss crew members without asking or introducing themselves felt it was appropriate to break out a tape measure and start measuring my car in the contingency line. I took offense to this and stated so to Moss and his crew member.
2.Savage informed me that someone was complaining about the bump stop mounts. Who? I didn't know at that point. Whoever it is does not have the cojones to come up, say hello and have a conversation about what they don't like. Savage informs me he has changed the rule in other classes to allow this mounting style, but has not yet Class 3. I inform him they are mounted in the stock location, just like another Class 3 at Primm (no one protested him). Either way Bill says the rule can be changed but not until next year at the earliest, if at all. He stated that I can run if we remove the stops because he sees no performance advantage to the mounts. Other option is to get a waiver from the other drivers for this one race. For the 1000 it would have to be changed or waiver again. I said OK.
I get three signatures and go to look for Dan Wright. Stopped by their trailer twice but they weren't around. Told Don Moss at the drivers meeting I was looking for him he said he was around, but I have no idea what he looks like. Finally decide to go to Wright’s trailer the next morning. At 5:30 am I meet Wright's co driver, Dan Wright is at Pit 1. We discussed what Savage including the possible rule change, the waiver and what the other drivers said. I asked if he could sign it. He said no, that I should go to Pit 1 and talk to Dan. I asked to talk to Dan by phone. He calls Wright, the phone doesn't get handed to me, but the answer is no. "Can I have his cell number so we can discuss this to try and find a compromise?" was my next question. I call 3 times, no answer. I inform my crew to start getting the bumps out. Don Moss arrives and I inform him that Wright and his crew don't want us to run. I offer to take out the rear bumps if we can run the fronts with no air so we don't destroy the oil pan. Don offers to call Wright on the radio. I am not with him, while on the radio, but he returns and says that Dan says no. The co driver again says I can drive to the Pit 1 and talk to Dan. That is 45 minutes each way driving. I sense a little sarcasm as the race starts in 35 minutes. I try the radio twice but I cannot get any clear reception and make nothing of the radio static. It is almost 6 am and I return to the group. I try calling twice more. I again inform the group that Savage will allow us to run without the stops and we are taking the bump stops out and will race. There were no threats or asking to sign again. The time for compromise and discussion was done.
Was I frustrated and felt the whole thing was a little weak? Yes. Did I share my opinions? Yes. But the stops were already coming out of the car before the "alledged" radio conversation so I had nothing left to ask for. I did tell my crew member to go and introduce himself to Wright at Pit 1 and ask if we could put the fronts back in the car during the race with no air so we would not tear up the motor. Again Wright said no. So we drove slow and cranked up the compression in the shocks.
5. For Sale: 4 Bump Stops. Hardly used.
Just for you FYI there were 22 JeepSpeeds running in Lucerne on Saturday. Shame we can't get 22 Class 3 cars.
Any other questions please PM me.
Thanks
Darren Skilton
As this post has been conveniently deleted I will repost it here to respond. You as other do, keep wanting to question my manhood in how I have dealt with this. I didn't start this event/issue. I have never spoke with Savage about it prior to talking with him after the race. I have stated my opinion here and it is known by many. I was the one that took a stance on the issue, after it became an official issue when others wouldn't. Did I track you down, no I did not. I had my stuff to deal with at the race. Is it my responsibility to deal with your issues, on a rig that is not built to class specs, no it is not. If our competition wants to look the other way on these issues, good for you, until I got involved. So you are talking to the one person that did have _____ to take a stance and not spend time whining on the internet about it. I also have no issue with getting the rules changed, as long as it happens in the right timeline. Get it changed then build the rig, not build it the way you want and then try and get them changed.
I have also made it very clear that I would vote no on any rule changes. I have stated that many times here and probably race one of the most disadvantaged model vehicle running. That I have spent countless hours modifying within the rules to make competitive. You have my number, if you would like to speak, give me a call.

Thank you, Clive Skilton. Pres.& Tech Director, Jeepspeed.
Clive, There is no official voice, we have a rule book put out by score. It a very easy read and tells what can and can't be done.
Here is my response as a driver of record in this class. If the 1700 are a SUV under 108" wheel base 4X4 and follow the rules they are welcome. If there bumps are in the stock position and do not modify the frame they are fine. If they have the stock rubber or Urethane bump there's no problem. If it's a 3700 and is a SUV under 108" and follows the rule they are welcome too. If there are bumps anywhere on the vehicle that doesn't modify the frame in any manner they are welcome to. Unfortunately this particular vehicle chose to modify the frame and install the bump cans in the middle of the frame rail which is not legal by the current rules.
In my build 4 yrs ago I didn't look to public opinion when I was doing something I thought was questionable. I contacted SCORE tech and spoke with Bill Savage about putting my bump cans in the middle of the frame rail and was told in Class 3 per CR48 it was not allowed. It would modify the top frame rail and constitute removal of material. This has been my issue with this vehicle all along and I have stated that clearly here when the subject was posed. It would have made my build quite a bit easier and would have cleared up a lot of issues with room. As it was I put them out board and dealt with how to land them on the spring plates.
As for the frame, it would have been a lot easier/stronger and quicker for me to cut mine and add back the same size tubing, as opposed to reinforcing the old and working around factory issues. I chose not to because it was not within the rules. I understand why things were done the way they were on this build and at the time stated how the frame was done was not legal per the rules in this class. I also stated that I would not protest the frame and I haven't.
I agree with Darren. Any protests should have been handled in advance. Everyone has seen this Jeep multiple times now. Calling somebody out on the start line is BS. Unprofessional and clearly without any concern for him as a peer. Do all of the classes whine as much as C3? I sure hope not. Skilton won the race without any bumps! Ha! I'm not sure if your comment was directed at me, but given the weather of the posts I will take it as such and respond. I did not call him out at the start line, I didn't even start this. I did bring the issue to head by not signing the waiver. As for whining I don't. I clearly stated my position and left it at that, until given the opportunity to take a stance and I did. As you can see I did not waiver in my position either. I applaud Darren's win and congratulate him. I was not willing to see this issue still be at hand come baja when it could have dramatically effected people's money spent and opportunities to race in a great event.

I really shouldn't respond to anything you have to say retro, as you seem to only want to have some type of verbal war that starts with name calling and digresses from there. Rather than debating the issues at hand with clear and concise thoughts. Every time something comes up on this board that heads not to your liking, you seem to want to digress in to e-thuggery. I won't bite, but will thank you for adding to the list of new nick names I have garnered in my life. Though I will say that "lowly, dirt bag" is on the limited side of creativity and probably will not make the list of names that I keep on the side of my racer to remind people who I am. I most fond of "junk yard dog" coined by one of my anti-admirers like yourself. It came with more creativity in its delivery and as person that respect his adversaries for their positions statement. I applauded the thought and guile in which it was delivered and have it prominently displayed on my racer.
Now that I have given you back a vestige of your wanting, I will get to the points at hand. If you would only reread my original post and comprehend what I said. I would not have to continue, but will for your clarification. I didn't start this, my views were known. When I was approached on the issue I took a stance. If I had signed the waiver, I would not have been in the position protest formally. So I didn't sign, and then did formally protest after the race. As for the jeep being built for everyone to see as a blue print for others, they would only have a blue print for something not built to the class rules. What good would that do for bring racers in. We do need racers, but their racers should be built to the rules. I have no issue with their bumps at all. The method in which they were installed is clearly outside the rules as written.
Now start a committee, write down what changes you want, get a collective opinion on how the vote is going to go. Then send it to Bill Savage and have him take the votes of the current racers and be done with it. Not the gallery of opinions that may someday build a racer or are thinking about, but the actual people that can vote. Though I have stated it many times, here is mine again. I vote "no" on any rule changes, unless they include me lengthening my EB to 108" wheel base. I, by myself, am not a majority so I can be over ruled.
For those that have an actual stake in this game, send me a pm I'll send my cell number to you. We can have a detailed and polite conversation about whatever you need clarified.
For those that have sent the pm's supporting my position thanks. For those that sent the hate mail, I thank you also. It is always nice to know the thoughts of others.

I myself am somewhat disappointed at the ugly direction this has taken.. http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/185082/fullsize/duel.gif
The facts are that the bumps were the argument & so Savage made them be removed & he still won.
Yes it can be said that he still may have mounted his shocks where others could not via the rules..
But can we mellow out with our tones?
I myself started this site with hopes of gathering excitement for the class & getting many others to join the ranks.
I know that in most forms of racing once the race is done its time to protest & then the protester puts up the cash for the inspection & or the dismantling of the protested rig.
& if the Protest is not found correct, the protester lose'es their money.
But this one took place at the start & seems sorta different... IMHO.
I personally tried talking the only JeepSpeed guy into joining the Class 3 ranks for this race because of the fact he was racing alone & would fit the class perfectly...
& FYI he finished right after Skilton.
But it seemed he had no interest?
I then stated " your racing alone!"
Unless your just looking for a win by finishing the race?, wouldn't it be better to race against others?
I've always heard they can race with us in SCORE & now wonder if they won 1st & 2nd what would the DRAMA of become..
I personally love the idea of luring Class 3 legal JeepSpeeds to Class 3.
Yet at the same time after all this hope we've not scared Skilton away from us?!?!?!
I know after the 500 they told me they were done & figured it was not worth the stress of people saying this & that..
I personall would love to see a happy medium be found & where Class 3 rules might expand ( Maybe ) just enough to entice other to race with us without giving up the spirt of the Class.
That being said......... When does SCORE finalize the the last draft of what will be the latest SCORE rule book?
( Off Topic---- But, I'll probably start Co-Driving in SCORE's latest Class 6 addition & would love to also get a copy of those rules, that are not in the old book )
If we still have time, we need to all focus on the Class 3 issues & make sure Savage completely understands what the current Class 3 racers want! Either way!
Updated new rules or not..
I plan to call Savage tomorrow on this issue to find out the dead line for new rules & then we need to stop the bitching about this or that!
Rules are Rules & they'll always be people pushing the limits, ( Come on guys, its RACING! )

Thank you Dan for stepping up when you knew that you would be taking a bunch of crap for trying to correct a wrong.
What happened to us that we defend cheaters and ridicule anyone that stands up for what's right? Seems backwards to me. Everyone of us can read well enough to read the rule book with understanding. Every one of us know what the rules are, SCORE wrote them down for us to race by. They do not ask if we can read and if you want something cleared up you can always break down and call tech. So we are self monitoring and on our honer. So if a racer has less than great honer and or is willing to cheat it is left up to the racers to correct the problem. So Dan stepped up for all of us, again, thank you Dan.
Chris, you and I have disagreed more than once and my opinion on coilovers has not changed I have no hard feelings toward you or anyone else because their opinion is diff. than mine. but while you try to change the rules you are not breaking them and I applaud you for that.
Darren, you got cought, before the race not after, you corrected the problem before the race, run the race in a class legal racer and won. Congratulations on a clean, fair win. Whither the change hurt you or made any diff. or not, you won with no need to break the rules and no one can say you cheated and for that you should thank Dan also. As I said above Dan stood up for all of us.
All, if you don't like the rules get them changed or race in another class

Did I hear correctly that SCORE was gonna allow this in the next addition of the rule book?
Did I hear correctly that SCORE was gonna allow this in the next addition of the rule book?
No you didn't here correctly, the rule book as it is, goes through 2010. Can SCORE change it if they want yes, can we as DOR's get it changed yes.
There is no scheduled update of the rules or reprint until after 2010 when the current printing expires. Even then unless the DOR's ask for changes, they probably won't unless it is for safety reasons, like they did with the updated Cage rules.
As for rule changes, and the discussion of them, all I will ever say on this board as I told the few DOR's that contacted me is I will vote no. If, as I have disussed this last time with one of the current DOR's, they want to do it privately with in the group that has a vote and in very professional way I am very open to change. But not as a discussion point on this board in any forum, where everyone with an opinion and no racer can way into it.
Not bad mouthing anyone, their views, or this forum, but do agree with a couple DOR's that this is not a venue where you can accomplish anything constructive in the way of a decent discussion on rule changes.
