I would be up for it... would probably bring my motorhome and tow my piece of crap jeep liberty along.
I'd prefer to BBQ steaks though!! I think it's what... 2 or 3 hours from Ventura?
I'm only there 1/2 the month though... so throw out dates WELL in advance. August is a great time to get away from this Vegas heat.

I'm up for a Pismo trip. Any weekend in August is cool for me except the 11th & 12th. I haven't been down there all summer.
steveG
07-16-2007, 03:36 PM
If it's August I'm out of town on the weekend of the 5th and I might be going to the MDR night race on the 11th, but I'd skip that if people want to do it then.
Let's start making plans!

all this talk of pismo is lighting a fire under my butt to get the bronco back up and running. if it was running i would be down for sure. i might take my truck (its really my wife. :) down there. but it has 20" wheels (stock) so going back in the dunes doesnt work to well. flyin everytime i see a pic of your bronco it makes me want an autofab bumper even more, its by far the best looking bumper out there.
P.S. steve i might run by your work to talk about motors (if you can still get them)

Sorry for the delay, it's been crazy at work. That weekend works for me! (Aug 26, etc). I think I can get my motorhome "in" just about anywhere along the beach (assuming the tide cooperates on the little channel). I can tow my crappy jeep along, but it's proven worthless for off-roading (liberty). I can be pit-central... BBQ, Sat TV, racing videos, whatever.
Let me know who is up for it. I think it's about 3 hours drive for me, give or take a six pack. I can make elk burgers if anyone eats that!!
My race truck will be in quarantine for Primm - Pop says I'm on probation for hitting the truck in Mexico. I'm not sure I ever finished THAT story. Look for more pics very soon.
Where are the FJ guys from? I could haul some people up with me from Ventura. My coach only holds about 6 comfortably while driving. 20 when parked :o) he he.

What ever happened to the creek channel that you used to have to cross on the way out to the beach there at Pismo? We didn't see it the last time we were there. Is it just so dry that it isn't running? There was no lack of people though! When you close most of the place down and squeeze them into a tiny area, it sure gets crowded.
That weekend is the Vegas to Reno race.
steveG
08-02-2007, 08:46 AM
The creek comes and goes with the seasons. Right now there is no (visible) creek, but if you look to the left (inland) as you drive in you can see a pond that turns into the creek during rain season. When it's flowing you can park by the creek and watch the kooks truck through it, kill their vehicles and if you're lucky (and they're not) you get to see momma-nature swallow a car!
It gets incredibly crowded in the camping areain the summer but the dunes usually stay useable even on big weekends. If you're going out to play, the off-season is definitely best.

Guess we lost a few and are down to two broncos plus me if I make it? I might be going to Oklahoma next week, and that would change things for me. I'm not totally "out", but it's a little bit of a haul for me to sit on the beach and drink beer, which I'm already doing in Ventura. I guess the difference is the 4-wheeling, but my jeep liberty isn't so hot anyway. Maybe I should save my gas-money for Primm. We shall see what the next couple o' days brings.
steveG
08-18-2007, 10:18 PM
If you're coming alone then I'd pass if I were you. I don't think anyone is actually camping on the beach, so you'd be alone. I found out a few days ago that I have something I should go to Saturday evening, but I still plan on doing lunch and maybe playing on the beach and hanging out for a few hours.
Maybe we can plan a big trip somewhere in the future.

cool, thanks for the reply. Ya, I would probably be coming alone.
I guess we should plan a get-together around a race sometime... but of course that might prevent some of us from just hanging out and having a good time (stress/logistics of the race).
Anyway, I guess I'll start working my way towards Primm in the motorhome... guess I should check the calendar and figure stuff out.

If you guys are still looking for a good day to get together at Pismo I suggest the weekend of October 19,20,21. That is the weekend of the Oceano Dunes Endurance Beach Race and Festival. you can come out and watch some atv and motorcycle racing and play in the sand and its always open for more participants.
steveG
08-21-2007, 03:53 PM
Last year it was so incredibly packed during the race that you could hardly drive around, let alone play. It was impossible to drive along the beach without driving in the water... not fun.
It is kind of cool to watch though, and I have friends that come into town for it, so I'll probably be out there then too.

Yeah planning on leaving around 8 or so. It'll just be me and my girl. I'm looking forward to meeting you, checking out your ride and kickin' up a little sand. Its been a long painful summer at work and I can really use the fun.

Trip summary:
Good times! Rick and his girlfriend Amber, Nick, Mike and I met up for lunch at F.McLintocks Saloon but decided to go to Fins when we were told it would be a 35 minute wait while they prepped for lunch... lame. After lunch we headed out and had played on the sand. That was the most fun I've had on the dunes in a long time. I'm definitely looking forward to doing it again. Next time we need to camp so we can have a fire and a BBQ to gather around. Amber can show off some of those camp cooking skills. If you guys like Chile Verde, I'll make Chile Verde omelets for breakfast.
Parish made it out after lunch and as expected put on a good show. His truck lands awesome! He also brought out some friends in a 2wd prerunner that kicked butt out there. Nick's Bronco is no longer a dune-virgin but suffered some sort of failure in the front end and lost 4wd. Mike got all charged up and went home to tell his wife they're buying an engine for his Bronco and that was that... let me know how it works out!
Rick's Bronco just plain rocks... love the stance and overall look. And man did it look smooth in the rough. Aside from overheating his trans, which sand likes to do, his truck worked flawlessly, including jumping. Even Amber took Rick's truck for a jump and a couple passes through some whoops... aaaand passed me when my truck died
I really think if Amber hadn't pushed for that last run the truck would have been fine. Thanks a lot Amber. hehe. After that Rick and Nick shared tow duties and got me off the beach and I called a tow truck to haul the old girl to the shop. Maybe I'll go into work today and get it running.
Even with the break-down it was a great time. It was good to meet everyone and B.S. Next time lets get a larger group and camp.
Thanks to everyone that came out.
