Hey class 3 racer, i have a 86 Toyota 4 Runner with a Fat 22r motor for it and Total Chaos a arms for the front with some other goody's. The arms on the front are 3 inches wider per side so that makes it 2 inches to wide for Score rules in class 3. Will i get tech on something like that or is it close enough it won't matter? I could build some or modified my arms but its a lot of work and some money for 2 inches. I guess running in the back it would not matter much anyway.:) Thanks

I suppose you could correct it with an additional inch off setting on your wheels...

Check your wheelbase too, as think I remember Runners being too long?
Hope I'm wrong, as great to see new racers come along. Welcome.

I thought about the rim offset also but the Toyota already uses a positive offset. And the stock rims is what i am using. The wheelbase is 103 and I think that' s legal in class 3. I thought to help out the class 3 truck count some little things might be over looked. And looking at some pics of some racers with after market solid front axles with wider than stock rims might be in the same boat as me. But pics are sometime deceiving. If you guys have anymore info or ideals let me know.Thanks.

Yes 103 is perfectly legal!
The rules allow up to 108.

Well, the stock 4 runner rims will not likely hold up to much serious abuse anyway, so you should be looking to swap them out regardless. Will tech check your wheelbase and your width? Probably not from what I hear, they are there as a saftey enforcer more than anything. Will the current racers allow a wider vehicle to compete, bend the rules to increase class numbers?.....Not likely from some of the previous arguments about legality on this board. I'm only a builder thus far so take this with a grain of salt. But I would love to see a 4 runner in the mix.

Nobody complained about Tiimy D's linked Bronco that raced a while back in class 3. ( I think it was in the MINT race? )

If i remember Tim showed up at the race and no one knew before hand that it was linked. He didnt' know it was illegal either. I doubt if he shows up again with it still linked that he'd be allowed to race or at least count. Look at all the controversy over skiltons Jeep.

Wheelbase and track width are two of the few concrete rules that you cannot read any differently into, as opposed to bump stops and coilovers. Although someone would have to protest it in order for anything to matter.

Grimm i agree with everything you have said in your two posts. And Skiltons jeep is bad to the bone:cool:.I wonder when the last time anybody has been protested in class 3. But I have found some Downey front A arms that are two inches longer per side put some uni balls in them with some gusset might work. And i do have some center line rims with the stock offset. Are center line rims any good?

I wonder when the last time anybody has been protested in class 3.

Well a couple of years ago the Donahoe's FJ was called on for having too wide a track & they had to run different rims to correct it.

& Skilton was forced to remove his air bumps right before the start on This last SCORE race Primm 300.

So he raced without bumps.

& as far as Timmys linked Bronco, If I remember correctly they also let him past tech without window nets.

No window nets that is:eek:! I appreciate all the info guys. I have been saving my money for the last three years to try and build something and i am pretty much there. Now if my job takes a crap then the money will be used else where of course. I have a 75 Bronco also and have talk to Chuck about it as a racer. If those offroad races in Texas keep going we might be able to have enough for a Early Bronco class Chuck.

i like the idea of the 4 runners.

im new to reading about class 3 rules, but it seems like the broncos are the best pick for a platform

Its + or - 2" from the stock wheelbase not to exceed 108".

Is the 2" wider track width from the hub face or from the outside of the rim. most rigs have wider than stock rims. +2" easy. after market rims always have a greater than stock offset. And what about the bump stops? Skelton had to remove them?. if they aren't over 4" that should be Ok. I need to get out the bible, I mean the SCORE rule book again.

Actually the width is measured from the center of the tires tread to the other tires center.
