Hello from Colorado Springs, CO

Ill be quick, I like long walks on the beach and someone who.......OOPS wrong site.......Just jokin.

I found the site recently while searching "1970 Chevy" on race-dezert.
I joined because I am looking to get into some sort of off-road racing.....the problem in there’s nothing in my state. I race a few things locally but there is no real off road racing in CO. we have a track not too far from home but it’s not what most would call "dezert racing"

I like the Class 3 and the 1450 classes but still learning about other classes and helping with a local track to start some fun racing circuit. But, I want to build my truck to a "Class rules" so if I ever have the option to race out of state ill be legal. The "1970 Blazer" build caught my eye

I’ve raced 3 years at local dirt track, approx 40 races in the same vehicle across the state, ran figure 8's on asphalt, and completed in a Colorado Hill Climb race......well sort of. and still drag race my nova (currently crashed)
all while raising a family and working two jobs.
All of the above makes my progress slower than others. IMO work and Family comes first

anyway....class 3 looks awesome. I like the vintage stuff and want a place to race my future vintage truck...possibly class 3.
I don’t take a lot of pictures and spell badly without spell-check……so apologies for future bashing
Here are some pics of a few of my toys.

the 56 truck is being converted from flat track to offroad, and my nova pic is fresh from the ditch after a dumb ass move on my part
(its the only one i have on my computer)

But I hate to tell you, your truck would not be legal in class 3. :(
Its a an SUV class to pick up trucks...

I love the early Novas though.
What was it running in the 1/4?
Whats under the hood?

Welcome. Interesting rigs to say the least! I have sure never seen that vintage Chevy pickup raced on a flat track. Some very famous class 3 racers have come out of Colorado, and in fact Kirk Kovel is there now.

I have a Blazer im saving for a possible canidate. 104 WB is legal
In the future i want to start from scratch depending on desision.

I want to try some things with my #56 truck and now im adapting to race at a local 100 mi race this spring.

the nova isnt real fast, spins tires first 60ft, mid 14's w/open diff 3:08's and TH350 was best before i changed a whole bunch. Maybe mid 13's now.....at 5200 feet, but have to wait till next summer to run again

Ive had for 12 years its been fun,
has an old school 327, stall fenderwell headers and 4 speed auto......was a 6cy and glide.

This is ancient history, but there was an off road race in Colorado...Once.
High Desert Racing Association put on a race in Craig ,Colorado in 1987.
Ivan Stewart,Frank Vessels,Jack Johnson,Rob MacCachran.Everyone was there. If I remember right,it was a double points race,so you pretty much had to go if you were in the running for points.

congrats on those championships!!!

the truck classes are growing. I won the chamionship in 08, and kind of lost interest, missed a few races this year, but hey....its all thats around here, a new track. it was a 1/4 dirt oval

the figure 8 racing wit h a 4000lb truck was scary, i raced with late modle tires and they hooked like glue.

How may races a year does the class 3 race?

How may races a year does the class 3 race?

That all depends on whos race sanction you race?

Theres:

SCORE
SNORE
MDR
MORE
etc etc....

Some of them them out there now dont have an official Class 3, But the ones I mentioned above plus others do.
