So if I had a 86 to 89 4runner I would be class 3 legal but what if I run a total chaos set up? On paper it would put my track width at 3.25" over per side. So I thought that would be a no-go. But then I remembered the FJ that races class 3 with a total chaos kit. And that kit is 3.5" over per side. So did they change the rules or something? Or do they look the other way because it is a-arm?

You can only be 4" overall wider.
The FJ got called on the track width & was forced to run different rims with a back space that put him back within the legal limits.

You know I remember that being said somewhere now. So you could be with in limits with 33x10.50 tires and enough backspacing.

I think there was a lot more to it than that. I recall stories of getting last minute axles etc made. Go to the source , Dylan Evans at ICON for the real story would be best.

I dont think tire width makes any difference. Track width should be center of tire to center of tire not overall width. I think those have quite a bit of backspacing stock so good luck gaining that much.

Well then that maybe why Chaos came out with there 2" over per side kit. I was kind of wondering about it. But now it makes since.

I'm just going by what Dylan told me himself while we were at a before crossing the border insurance stop.

He said that someone dropped the dime on him & that caused him a fair amount of travel & I remember saying "REALLY?" Because I didn't realize how that little gives you that much.
& He never mentioned the axles but did mention the wheels..
& Of course why would he bother to tell me all the details.

On an A arm setup changing the wheels would have little to no effect on travel. The only thing I can see is if the arms actually hit the wheels and travel had to be limited or such. On TTB types travel can change with wheel offset.

Again Dylan or TC should have some real info. Donahoe racing 'dropped the dime' on themselves in their press release praising the TC 3.5 kit.
