Remember Ray Russell?

I remember he kicked ass in Class 4 when it was modified 4x4. I think he build a few of Don Adams jeeps. Anyone remember info about Ray? I tried google with no luck.

I don't really have any information about him, but he was a long-time racer and I too remember reading about him in the mags. His Jeep was later raced by Mike Schwellinger with great success in the late '80s and was for sale here in AZ on CL not too long ago.

I recieved an email from Craig at www.bajanorth.ca and he said it dominated Class 4. He mentioned that he was leading the Baja 500 or 1000 overall at one point, back in 78 or so. Until he crashed it. Craig raced a CJ-7 that was built by John Deetz to compete against Ray back in the 70's and did a lot of research on it and Rays Jeep when he was rebuilding it. He also mentioned that he was one of the first drivers to be sponsored by Goodyear and did some testing of the first Wrangler radial.

He is going to do some digging through his information and articles for me...

Greg Adler, President of 4Wheel Part and My Brother Eric recently ran that Jeep in the NORRA Mexican 1000 and took first in class. They upgraded to modern shocks but otherwise it is still the way it was when Schwellinger ran it and it still hauls the mail for a CJ-7!
