View Full Version : Mint 2010 who's racing?

Who's in the for the mint?
Anybody interested in running the Class 3 Cars together with the Jeepspeed 3 Cars? Current count is 7 Jeepspeed 3 cars for upcoming Parker race....could have a pretty decent field if we combined the two classes at The Mint.
No need to mingle the points if people are opposed, we can just race for the purse.

we got the o.k. because were a mopar and the rest of the class didn't mind it

The rules read mopar only for 3700, but in an effort to put together a big class and for a special race like the mint I think clive would be open to all together.
Looking forward to running against the pike car again!

My PCI contact says "no pre-run for the Mint". PCI maps will be available for purchase.
As for San Felo... I don't expect to see any class 3's there, sadly.

SNORE says if not 5 in a class they will combine. May we suggest Jeepspeed Cup and Class 3 run together? This should give us 5 or 6.

That sounds better then just 3 on the track. At the Primm we were the only class 3 so we were racing with the Heavy Metal & Class 8. We couldn't run with the pack, but we had fun trying.

PRESS RELEASE: Mint 400 a couple days away
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Off-road racers ready to tackle Nevada’s oldest and toughest off-road race
Las Vegas, NV – The toughest off-road race in Nevada is just a couple of days away. The 25th running of the historic SNORE/General Tire Mint 400 will take place this Saturday, March 27th at 7am starting at the Moapa Travel Plaza (exit 75 Valley of Fire road) on the Moapa Indian Reservation, 25 minutes north of Las Vegas off Interstate 15.
Ever since Norm Johnson, former public relations director for the Del Webb Hotels created the Mint 400 in 1968, the Mint has grown rapidly in popularity.
The SNORE/General Tire Mint 400 will not be an easy race. Racers will be challenged on the 105 mile course with a treacherous section known as “the rock garden ” which features shale rock beds, boulders, ditches, cactus and “gotchas” strewn throughout the area. Veteran desert racer and former Mint winner Cameron Steele says “I grew up racing in the rock garden in the 80’s, and even though it cost me victories, I am looking forward to waging war this year!”
B.J.Baldwin who will tackle the SNORE/General Tire Mint 400 this weekend in an 800 horsepower unlimited truck reflected on his early years at the Mint said “I love the Mint, it was the first desert race I ever went to,”. Baldwin said his father, Bobby Baldwin first took him to the Mint when he was 7 years old.
Fans can get autographs from their favorite drivers at a special fan fest and meet and greet held on Fremont Street East (between Las Vegas Blvd. and 8th street) tonight from 6pm to 8pm. At 8:30pm, General Tire will crown the Mint Queen in front of the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino.
Friday,March 26th, race cars will parade down Fremont Street for Technical inspection and Contingency starting at 9am and lasting throughout the day.
Saturday March 27th, race officials will drop the green flag at 7am for the start of the SNORE/General Tire Mint 400 race. The Moapa Indian tribe will have shuttles running to special spectator sections along the course. Food vendors and bleachers will be set-up at the start/finish line at the Moapa Travel Plaza. For more information on the SNORE/General Tire Mint 400, please visit www.snoreracing.net (http://www.snoreracing.net/).

go to the snore site and check the lap times link. Moss appeared to be the only finisher among three entries in Class 3. Pikes appear to have timed out on their fourth lap. Krellwitz ran as a 3700 JeepSpeed and ran a very fast first lap and finished ahead of Class 3 by more than a half hour. Pike had Moss at the end of the first lap by less than a couple of minutes. By the third lap Moss had at good lead over Pikes. The third entry in Class 3 was Larry Schwacofer who completed two laps. The most suprising statistic was Eric Helgeson in JeepSpeed who beat the 3700's and the Cl 3 by running a good consistant pace and was only a couple of minutes back from the fastest laps that 3700 and 3 ran.

I started this thread asking the class 3 guys to combine with the Jeepspeed 3700 class for this race. All the Jeepspeed 3700 guys agreed to it, I know some of the Class 3 guys were interested. After the drivers meeting I went up to talk with SNORE officials about us all running together and they told me "the class 3 guys had met with him before the meeting and told him they wanted to run as their own class without the 3700 vehicles".
Any of the Class 3 guys care to chime in as to why you decided to not run with us?

Helgeson ran a great race...jeepspeed 1 cars frequently beat the 3700 cars if we don't have a clean race. There are so many good guys running out there in that class, and they have to run so hard to win that they are always right there if we have any issues.

when i came into town my dad told me clyde approached him at tech about combining classes and he answered something like " sure go for it, or do whatever you guys want." we usually run with the jeep in bitd so we had no preference. its usually more fun when there's six guys in the guys vs. a few.

We never talked to SNORE. As I told you during contingency, it was all I could do just to get the truck there, I didn't have any time to campaign one way or the other. In either case, one of the groups would have had to switch over to the other class, and I know you guys weren't going to switch. I got to the drivers meeting late, and saw the Skiltons there, and I think they were the ones that told me that we were going to run two classes.
