I have been involved with racing in the Desert since 1971. Started out with some Buggy guys then ended up working for Mike Moore and Rodger Mears with the Budwieser Jeeps, then to Walker Evans Racing for about 10 years. I ran the Goodyear Racing Support Team for a couple years and then opened my own shop TORQFAB Racing. I mostly raced and built Class 4 and 8 Trucks. I prepped the Class 3 and 14 Jeeps for Emil Downey and Jerry Bundy from the East Coast who both won the Baja 1000 a couple of times. My shop built some real nice Bronco Pre runners, Last I heard they ended up at Sandy Cones son's shop near Paso Robles. I'm presently going through some old pictures to post of the Broncos, Jeeps and IHs that have raced in the desert. I would enjoy hearing from any of the old guys I raced against and any of the new kids that like to hear about how it was.:D

Recognize this truck TLP? It was yours! Mike Coleman bought this, we came to your house to look at it.

Yeah, I too have a copy of the Off Road mag that featured your gear. I can tell by my notes that I called you, but it doesn't say why. Sorry to have wasted your time.
I would love to hear more about Roger Mear's Honcho. I raced in the 1981 Fireworks 250, a HDRA race, and Mears was racing the Honcho. I was curious about how the 4wd worked and what evolved on the truck over the time that you worked on it.

You bet I do, She was the Love of my Life. I built Her then abused Her,rode her hard and was pretty successful with Her. I cried like a baby as she drove up the driveway from my shop. Sprit did a few changes on her which made Her even better. The Collins got one of the best deals in the history of off road racing, it was called the DD Divorce Discount. They paid 10 grand less than what just the Leon Patton motor cost and got the truck thrown in for FREE. I founfd the truck up in Las Vegas about 10 years ago but since then I don't have a clue. I would Love to start an affair with her again. Weird how Guys think.
Best

Havn't been on latly, Tim I was out to your place a long time ago, you lived in Riverside and had the shop behind your house, came out with Spence Low Sr, can't remember but I think we where racing at Riverside. You or someone had a cook out. I still remember the old race doors hanging on the wall and the best thing was the jump in the yard. You put out some really nice work, man it's a small world. I really enjoyed that day. Thanks

It's never a waste of time when you are looking for answers. We had a lot of fun with the shop. I met a lot of really col people through Off Road racing and enjoying getting re aquainted with old Friends and customers.

The jump was always an attention getter. How many people could finish a project , start it up and drive 100 feet and jump it 8 feet in the air. The party you are talking about was the Amrstrong / Sears Barbecue that we had at my house then an open house at the shop down below. For a small shop we turned out some really nice equipment. I'm going to post some pictures of a Blazer Prerunner we built. It ended up with Jimmy Smith then the Rick Johnson. Bob Foster the original owner did some amazing finish work and it was one of the trucks shown in the Offroad magizine. I really am enjoying this sight.
