I'm getting so Frustrated with my E-4OD That I'm considering swaping to a C-6 Trans & wonder what all that would be involved?
How would it effect the ECU?
If the VSS in the transfer case is sending a signal to the Computer & theres no E-4OD for it to talk too? http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/humm_smilie.gif
Hows that gonna effect my engine's performance?
If I remember correctly I had the trans wiring disconected once & the engine ran like crap like it was on 2 cylinders..
I'm not 100% convined I'll do this swap but, I'd like to learn what involved.
Because I can see a Tranny shop charging my around $2,500.00 to re-build my E-4OD.
What might it cost to swap over to the C-6
I realize I'd need to change out from the 4:88 axle gears as well.
Ok lets assume I go ahead & rebuild my E-4OD & the shop gets all the Bugs out.
That would be great.
But Those pesky electrical gremlins might find there way back into it again some time later.
Considering I like driving Blanco fast in the rough stuff.
Theres lots of hard bumps that might mess with the eletrical stuff maybe?
& each time I rebuild the trans it will cost $2,500.00
& rebuilding a C-6 has got to be alot cheaper than that.
If I re-build the trans again, It will be the 3rd trans in the 3 years that I've owned the Bronco.

Get Art Carr on the E40D. I think it's a good trans. IMO, you'll be sorry if you eliminate the OD, because it allows you to run a gear low enough to stay in a good power curve at a capable speed in the dirt and still drive to and from the trail. By capable speed I mean the combination of the Broncos suspension/wheelbase/horsepower and your personal driving ability. You want to be sure the engine stays in it's power curve at the speeds you typically run. It's difficult to be happy at both ends with a 3 speed trans.......again, my opinion.

Hell I dont even drive it all that much!
Does anyone know of anyone thats raced with the E-4OD?
I'm pretty sure the Enduro Bronco did...
FORD was giving them the Trans & stuff back then.

Would'nt the Parts from a '87-'89 Bronco with a C-6 simply swap over?
I would imagine I could use all its parts.
Cross member.
Shafts.
Computer.
Etc..

http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/14.gif And you laugh at my tire luck....tires are cheap compared to transmissions:rolleyes:
I agree with Yikes....think about how fun it is to drive your sami to and from places far away.....are you sure you wanna lose your OD?

The guy in the shop next to me specializes in Ford trans. Quit screwing around. It's a lot cheaper to do the trans than dick around putting the c-6 in. He is very reasonable and good. Call me and I'll set you up. yeah, I know its in El Cajon, but if you get down there next week, then I'll drive your sorry ass home.

it is not too much trouble to switch over. Curt Leduc sells a magnetic pick-up that replaces the VSS. you can do the entire swap for alot less than rebuilding your current tranny. i have a C-6 that was rebuilt not long ago with a shift kit you can have for $150. has the torque converter with it also. sorry, i dont have the transfer case though. now that i think about it, i think i have the crossmember and drive shaft also, i would have to look. let me know if interested.

Thanks Roach! :D
Tomorrow I'm going to this other tranny shop to have them look at it..
The Guys says he has a break out box he connects to the tranny & it allows everything to work as if it was hooked up to the ECU but its not he can remotely from this box shift the trans the way he wants too.
& he says its the best & easiest way to see if its an electrical issue or not..
Because he will be the trannys electrical system fooling the trans into thinking its hooked up normally..
So we'll know if it needs to be rebuilt..
Man I hope to learn its electrical, it should be so much cheaper & easier.
Rebuilding my trans again sure take a chunk out of the further Cage work I had comming..:o
Roach, I'll let you know if Idecide to do the Swap..
With your help it will be much more affordable. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/hug.gif
