Looking for opinions/advice/experiences on HID conversions. I have surfed the net and found a ton of stuff out there from the super cheap to the very expensive. I also checked on racedezert.com's forums and found some good information there. Thought I would check the knowledge of the class 3 racers.

Thanks Salttoy:cool:

My nephew used a kit from Round Eyes on his TJ Wrangler and has been really happy with it. Not sure what he paid for the kit but the headlamps are pretty bright with a blue tint.

They bright, get less hot, and *if I'm not mistaken* run lower wattage than a conventional bulb meaning you can run more lights with less draw on your electrial system. If that's not correct ... someone correct me. That's what I was told last summer at a race.

I noticed the other day that Harbor Freight Tools has a 35 watt HID cordless hand held spot light. I'm not sure how they do it but it looked like the real deal. They are very bright and would probably make a great light for late night race repairs. The best part is that the price fits into a class 3 budget.
I wish they would make these lights in a vehicle mount aplication.
OK I just looked at their web site. They do have 9" vehicle mount HIDs for $119 each!

Just curious, if you were racing the Baja 1000 or 500 would you feel comfortable having all your lights from Harbor Frieght?

It would be a gamble, no doubt! I'm sure you would want to test them for a while before you bet your life on them. I just wanted to show what was out there.

then again ... they only have to live for what ... 30 hours or so ... hahaha. but there are some decent HID kits to replace stock headlights for around $300 for a pair. i know a lot of guys that run those and while that don't put out the long distance light of say a dedicated roof mounted light, they do a VERY good job. of course you'll still need more light that that.
