FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NOVEMBER 17, 2010
MOSS BROTHERS AND BF GOODRICH CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY IN BAJA
SACRAMENTO, CA - Six time SCORE Class 3 Baja 1000 champions, Don and Ken Moss are in Baja Mexico with their BF Goodrich ‘79 Ford Bronco to compete in this week’s 43rd Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 Off Road race. They are part of an elite group of 106 racers who have combined for 311 class wins in the oldest and most well known of all desert races. Only 11 racers of this group have more Baja 1000 class wins than the Moss Brothers, who have six. The Moss brothers have 37 Class 3 wins, 32 of which are in SCORE competition.
This is the Moss Brothers’ tenth season of SCORE competition, with seven Class 3 Championships, all of which have been on BF Goodrich tires. In 2010, BF Goodrich Tires is celebrating its 35th year in SCORE Baja racing. In addition to being the official tire of SCORE International for three and a half decades, BFG has been the tire of choice for 23 of the overall 4-wheel vehicle winners in the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, including 23 of the last 24 years and a record-run of 20 straight from 1986 through 2005. The BFG 35th anniversary logo is based on the Moss Brothers’ Bronco.
This year’s 1061 mile course begins in Ensenada on Thursday, November 18 and finishes in La Paz, passing through 10 mandatory checkpoints. Teams will have 45 hours to complete the course. The all volunteer Black Bronco crew has come together from across the State of California, cashing in vacation time at work, to conquer the mexican desert and rise to the logistical and mechanical challenges that come with racing the SCORE Baja 1000. All entries are provided with GPS programs defining the course and all are required to utilize special data recording devices that plot the actual route and speeds each vehicle takes during this colossal race. Fans can follow the Moss
Brothers BF Goodrich Bronco online as they chase their seventh Class 3 Baja 1000 victory enroute to an eighth SCORE Class championship. Under the sponsorship of BF Goodrich Tires and production services of Aura360, live tracking will be available through the special www.baja1k.com (http://www.baja1k.com) web site and www.BFGoodrichTires.com (http://www.BFGoodrichTires.com) web site. Live audio and video streaming updates starting with contingency, from the start/finish line and other locations around the course will be available at www.thebajaunlimited.com (http://www.thebajaunlimited.com) and www.DirtNewz.com (http://www.DirtNewz.com). Live tracking will be available also at www.racetheworld.net (http://www.racetheworld.net). Another popular internet site, www.race-dezert.com (http://www.race-dezert.com), will offer special news coverage, live audio streaming of SCORE race operations as well as unofficial timing updates and split times from several locations on the course.
Teams completing the race will participate in the survivor awards fiesta celebration beginning at 4 pm on Saturday, November 20 at the Malecon in La Paz. This year’s Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race will be televised on a delayed basis as a one-hour NBC Sports special for the seventh consecutive year, airing on Dec. 19 on the NBC Television Network. It will also air on a delayed basis outside of the U.S. on ESPN International.

That is great that the Bronco is on the BFG anniversary logo.

MOSS BROTHERS ARE 8 TIME SCORE CLASS CHAMPS WITH 33RD WIN IN BAJA 1000

http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/839287/fullsize/pb180628-(2).jpg

SACRAMENTO, CA - The 1979 BFGoodrich Ford Bronco fielded by the Moss Brothers not only completed the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 off road race, they drove to an incredible 33rd SCORE Class 3 win and their seventh SCORE Class 3 Baja 1000 victory. The brothers also solidified an 8th Class 3 SCORE Championship. With nearly 300 racers starting in Ensenada, only 197 or 67% made it to the finish line, 1061 miles later, in La Paz.
Starting in Ensenada mid afternoon on Thursday, the 18 member strong Black Bronco Crew got their BFGoodrich Ford Bronco to the finish line in La Paz in just over 28 hours. “ It was a tough trip. Everything was going pretty well until just after Bahia of L.A. and the front drive shaft came apart and knocked a corner off the transmission case so we had a big hole in it blowing oil out. We ended up gluing a peso over the hole and it’s not leaking now. We didn't have four-wheel drive after that but the transmission was okay,” Don Moss reported. Unable to get to a BFG pit for repairs, the team utilized a closer Mag 7 pit to fix their Bronco. One of the biggest challenges was getting enough transmission fluid to enable the Bronco to continue the race. Meanwhile, as this drama was unfolding in the wee hours of Friday morning, the other entries in class 3, which had been wheel to wheel up until this point, continued on course... logging the race miles ahead of Don and Ken Moss. Undaunted, the Moss brothers overcame the deficit to finish the race and take the win.

The Black Bronco Crew are appreciative of the opportunity to race in Baja Mexico and have seen firsthand some of the challenges its residents face day to day. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the crew got together and brought many boxes and bags of clothes, shoes and jackets, which they delivered to a church in San Vicente. There were no pictures or ceremony, the crew quietly dropped the items off ontheir way to a pit on race day. Thank you Baja for the welcome and the opportunities you provide to us, the racers.

The Moss brothers have ten years in SCORE off road competition, all of it on BFGoodrich Tires. The team salutes and joins with BFGoodrich in celebration of their 35 anniversary in SCORE Off road racing. BFGoodrich Tires' commitment to the growth of SCORE International and off-road racing does not end with its sponsorship extension or product support for numerous competitors in several classes. For the 2010 event, BFGoodrich Tires dedicated seven full service tractor-trailers and nearly 180 volunteer and active personnel at pit areas located along the racecourse to support more than 60 percent of the field who competed on BFGoodrich Tires. From the start of the race until finish line, BFGoodrich Tires sets the standard for onsite pit and event support with the most extensive network available, including pit areas staffed with volunteers consisting of emergency medical technicians (EMTs), race mechanics, welders, fabricators and communications specialists, services which have been provided since 1981.
BFGoodrich Tires’ support network also includes organization and mobilization of all parts, tires (as many as 14 per vehicle), fuel and equipment for all teams using BFGoodrich Tires. Last but certainly not least, BFGoodrich Tires’ pit support network includes satellite communications, mountain top relay stations and coordinates race communications for any teams running BFGoodrich tires, including on-course vehicle tracking and overall position tracking for every participant, regardless of tire choice.
Using motorsports as a proving ground for more than 40 years, BFGoodrich® Tires is involved in every type of racing, including oval, sports car, drifting, drag, desert, dirt, rally and extreme rock crawling. BFGoodrich Tires combines technological expertise with vast motorsports experience, delivering a high-performance tire for every type of vehicle. Visit BFGoodrich Tires at www.BFGoodrichTires.com (http://www.BFGoodrichTires.com).

The Black Bronco Crew are also proud to partner with the following in fielding their BFGoodrich Bronco on their 33rd victory and 8th championship: KC HiLiTES, West Coast Broncos, King Shocks, Ruff Stuff Specialties, Inquipco, Mid State Barrier, PowderCoatit.com, River City Differential, Sunoco Fuels, Deaver Springs and Bronco Driver Magazine.
This year’s Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race will be televised on a delayed basis as a one hour NBC Sports special airing on December 19 on the NBC television network. It will also air on a delayed basis outside the U.S. on ESPN International.
