I was just wondering how the motor rules have been interpereted "sp"?
Does the motor just need to be available at some point in the vehicles production? Seems like the ford guys use motors that were not available for their specific model year. Like a big block, or like chupa's wanting to run a dohc motor. This is one of the areas that I have always wondered about.

it is simple if you break it down.
CR23
engine must be of the same manufacturer, basic design and type, and have the same # of cylinders as the one intalled by the manufacturer. any displacement engine may be used as long as the original block casting remains the same.
so, as long as it if a ford in a ford car - good to go.
as long as you match the # of cylinders - good to go (grey area, but explorer's were offered with a V8)
ANY DISPLACEMENT ENGINE MAY BE USED - in the case of the bronco, inline 6, 302, 351, 400, 460, etc. all qualify as "any displacement".

While a good motor is crucial, it is probably the least of your worries in this class. Baja in a heavy, short wheel base vehicle is all about getting through the rough stuff. A smooth runnning engine with stock output will drag you through the rough stuff just fine. Calculate how many hours you spend in the rough stuff in a race versus the hours at WOT. Now multiply that by say 1/2 mph increase in speed for each type of section. Which decreases your overall time for the race the most? Spend your cash on the suspension and build it to survive the punishment. Several years ago SCORE pretty much defined the engine rule in C3 as anything that comes from the same mfg. So if you run a Jeep, you pretty much run the engine from ANY mfg! The Skiltons wanted to run their Kia with a V-6, instead of the 4, which would have been fine under these rules. They still never showed up.
I do have to admit that there is nothing more fun than passing class 9's and 1600 class cars that look like they are in reverse while going up a sand wash with a V8 and 4 wheel drive.........

Thanks, The reply from the Moss boys cleared up my issue. My amigo came from the factory with a 4, but I have a v6 and want to run it. The v6 is the isuzu 3.2 and it was offered in the amigo so by the rules I guess I'm G2G.

The rules say mfg. fuel injection is ok. So you should be able to run a TBI or TPI with out any problems. Just stay away from non factory aftermarket kits.
I bet a zz350 would wake up your Blazer!

A Carb/Manifold Queston...
OK to you Carb guys, are you allowed to run a Edelbrock intake? or other after market aluminum intake?
Its of a the same basic factory design........ but not actually a factory available for that model option.
Just like the Aluminum heads...
I know we can run aluminum heads even though those were not a factory option?
& what about the Actual carb it self?
does it have to be a Factory available Carb?
I cant see that.
I had to ask because I'd like to run the edelbrock truck upper & lower fuel injection manifolds with a BBK throttle body..
Should add some good power numbers for me, & I'm figureing if you Carb Guys can run aftermarket manifolds & carbs it should be the same for F.I. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/shrug.gif

You can run any carb and manifold combination up to 1 venturi per cylinder. So you can run 4 Webers if you like to tune things and be different.
The rules say "stock fuel injection is allowed". I dont know if that means stock concept or stock parts. By the time you get all the manifolds changed different throttle body, aftermarket computer, and bigger injectors installed it doesn't seem so stock any more. Somebody can ask SCORE or just go for it.

Yes, on the intake mfld and carb, I used to run an edelbrock w/a double pumper holley 750 cfm and passed tech, its an open item per the rulebook.

So do yall think swapping out my 90 Ford 2.9L for a Ford 4.0L would be worth it? Basically it would just give me more torque in my BII.

Do what I did and run it till it's dead and then upgrade!
I love the 4.0 in my b2.
