Heres todays newby question.
What is a good class leagal, and lower cost cell. I could probably get by with 22 gal, but I supose a 32 couldn't hurt.
It seems like most of the cells that you see from sumit and the like dont have a bladder, and I think a bladder is required.
Is there an alternative to the $700-$1000 high end cells?
Also, I will need a HP fuel pump for my efi. I could use a frame mount pump, but I would like to use a stock style pump. Can you make a small container that the cell drains into that is just big enough for the pump? What kind of pump is Chupas using?
Thanks guys.

we have a 32gal fuel cell. and for the fuel pump, we use a similar to this one..
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MSD%2D2225&N=700+115&autoview=sku

the one that we use comes from a ford ranger 2.9 engine, that's an external fuel pump, an in line type fuel pump, it's good enough for our 4.0l,

the in tank fuel pump specs.explorer 4.0 : ,Pressure Rating:65 ,Gallons Per Hour:18

the in line fuel pump specs,. ranger 2.9l :Pressure Rating:4-6 , Gallons Per Hour:30-40

HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM..

I was wandering the same thing. what about the JAZ sportsman cells? they have a plastic type inner cell inside a metal box and they seem reasonably priced. is there any body using this cell ? and if so how are they ?

just remember that cells are considered a "safety" item. as far as fuel pumps go, we ran the Bosch inline pumps. they work great. never had one fail. almost an industry standard in high end racing. they range $150 to $200.

I'm gonna try to build a Visual Smog inspection fuel cell.......

& from what I've gathered there 2 types..
Form core & Bladder?

Are they both just as SCORE legal?

I'm thinking with the foam core I could'nt use my stock in tank pump, But with a bladder I probably could?

My goal is to build a street legal Race/Chase Bronco.
So if you could help me in this goal I'd appreciate any input.

Can I have Rodd Fantelli Build me a SCORE legal fuel cell?
or do they have to come from established cell companies that have certs & such? http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/shrug.gif

I was thinking it might be cool to cut open the factory tank & drop a Class legal cell with in its skin to fool the Smog Techs...
Its will still pass the emmissions test...

bladder and foam are different issues. Score requires a bladder because if your cell gets smashed the rubberized bladder can change shape and still hold the gas. Foam is used for fuel control, basically keeping it from shoshing around so much.
I don't know of any DOT legal and score legal cells. You can custom build an outer shell and have a company like ATL build you a custom bladder for it. You could probably have your stock tank converted to hold a bladder, but as usual this is the expensive way to go.
DS had a good article on a cusotm cell for their project elf a few months ago. It was a full custom job and I'm sure the cost reflected that fact.

One other quick note to add...
If you are thinking about running the foam CHECK WITH THE MANUFACTURER!
Most of the foams are NOT COMPATABLE with PUMP gas!
You really do not want to have the pleasure of "DeFoaming" the fuel system!!!

I am looking into a Fuel Safe cell and they have an Economy racing cell RS232 @ Kartek. It's about 1000$ cheaper than the sportsman cell and was just wondering if it is SCORE legal. The sportsman cell is legal but there was nothing about the economy cell. The guys at Kartek says its legal. Anyone using this one?? http://www.kartek.com/products/all/fuel/fuel.htm

Thanks

Going from the BITD rule book, I assume that the score book will be similar in this area. The outer shell must be of steel aluminium or marlex?, it must have a bladder of coated fabric, it says that rotory molded poly is ok, and it must have baffling.
So I would say that the Jazz cell with the poly inner bladder would be ok, but I dont think that the econo cell from fuel safe has any sort of internal bladder so I doubt it would be race leagal. If it does have a bladder it should be ok.

It has a plymer bladder per Fuel Safe description, it took me a while to find it. Everyone at Kartek and Fuel Safe have told me it is SCORE legal and as far as i can figure out with its description it sounds legal. I guess I would have to call SCORE to confirm but it does have a bladder. It is Fuel Safes Race Safe cell. Thanks

Its good to hear that there may be a couple of lower cost cells to choose from. I have a fuel safe cell in my formula vee and its a nice piece, I would probably choose them if the econo cell is legal.

Anyone know anything about this one or the company?

AND....who has the best prices on the "Fuel Safe" brand cells?

Daaang, that thing is pricey. 1,100$ without a sending unit. We got our 32gal from Kartek Off-Road. They were great to work with and I thought had realistic prices. But we didn't get the alluminum cell either. That looks like it is a Fuel Safe cell, they are just a distributor.?? I'd attach a picture of ours but i'm retarded when it comes to that.

It's $250 less that the 44 gallon Fuel Safe from Off Road Wherehouse. Yes, these things are pricey.

guys, we should try not to use Kartek.

Their contingency form specifically rules out class 3 money. nice. I bought 80% of my stuff from them.. including my first round of shocks. That is the thanks I get? I don't remember where I bought my 32 gal Fuel Safe cell at... but frankly, it's too small. I don't even recall what it cost, but it's been going strong for 6, 7, 8 years? It was in my pre-runner before the race truck. Never had a foam issue either.

If anyone speaks to the guy that runs Kartek, be sure to point out my thoughts. I'm done with them.

Thanks for the info Ken. Actually they were on my list of vendors to take my build list to. I just emailed offroad@kartek.com to confirm they do not support Class 3 and if so, why is that the case. I'll let you know if I get a response.

find my dad (or anyone else at tech) who has the contingency form. They can show you it specifically eliminates us from the $$.

I believe you Ken but I wanted to form the question to allow them to respond to it. Who knows, if enough of us drop them a line, maybe we can change their current position.

I think you are calling me a liar! I did not steal that from someone else's contigency sheet! I am not a thief! If I was, I'd give them credit! (just keeping in spirit here!)
