Is there any other desert worthy tire out there that is more economical than the BFG Bajas or Projects, or Goodyear GSA's? Or do I need to just bite the bullet and pay up.

Since your going to get one set, bit a little harder on the bullet and get me a set :D

Not that i have experience but the BFG T/A's and M/T's seem to be pretty popular and about half the price.

You were on the list when I had some glass fenders waiting for me, but now??? :p

I'm not a big fan of those tires. I've used them both and actually ran the M/T's for years, but finally stopped because the sidewalls were too thin for the rocks (and sticks). I've been looking at the new Toyo's though.

We run the A/T's ... on our Class 11 but still ... and we've seen fairly good results with them. For all out racing in a heavy vehicle though, I think I would go for the Bajas (don't they have a kevlar sidewall?). Anyone out there racing on the PJ Dirt Grips?

ohhh and i've heard a lot of guys punching the sidewalls on the M/T's ...

The D rated BFG at and mt are pretty good. Not nearly as good as the baja with its 4ply sidewall. One good thing about sticking with BFG is the fact you can use thier pit support. Goes along the lines of supporting those who support the racers.

^ can't say enough about that statement ... IMO that's a VERY decisive factor! ;)

Anyone have a good lead on some 35" Baja's? I'll take a used set with 80%+.

Yikes, I'm no racer but I just picked up and mounted a new set of 37 Baja Projects with the side ribs. Those donuts have killer side walls. I have yet to really hammer then out in the desert but just looking at these tires it's no wonder they have 20+ championships under their belt. Check out race-dezert.com, desertrides.com or dezertrangers.com. You'll find a set on those sites I'm sure.

The 35" Baja's are approx $210 per tire from the race program. Almost all of us that run SCORE are using this tire. Pit support was mentioned and for the 1000 it's tough to beat. If your going to do MDR or other domestic series where pit support isn't as critical, then put a sponsorship package together and go after Toyo or one of the other suppliers.

A 13.50 with those beefy outer lugs, aren't you worried about clearing your radius arms?

Naw. My SX's are just as wide.....besides, if they're turned into the radius arms when I'm flying down the trail, then I've got more to worry about. :D

Just emailed about these tires. After mocking up the Toyos, I think they may just be too wide. If the Baja's are in good shape, I may just get them and resell the Toyos.

Frank DeAngelo runs the BFG off road tire program. There are some forms to fill out. Place an order and they'll ship direct without charging for shipping. Great deal. Again, nobody else supports the long races like they do. You could give me the other brands, but without that feature, it wouldn't be worth it.

very true ... and honestly $210 per tire for the Baja's is an amazing price!

Too wide for what?
I thought you were gonna widen your front end anyways.

Too wide for 8" rims in a high speed situation......I'm still undecided. The guy with the Baja's has an email name of "wonbaja". Turns out he's the codog for the #7 TT. Says the tires have 2000+/- perun miles on them......so probably pretty rounded lugs.

If it was two thousand races miles, I'd worry that there was unseen damage, but they should be fine as spares.

What do you think Cam, those Toyos too wide for my Jeep CJ? I've been thinking of going up to 35s but had my heart set on some BFG Muds.
