I have been playing around w/ those gearing calculators but want
some first hand experience. What gears are best for a class 3 racer?

For my rig I was have three gears in mind but dont know which to go with
4.56, 4.88 or 5.12's.

I am running 35's, 351W w/mild cam, intake, headers(fairly stock), 9in and D44 TTB's, C-6, NP208 T-case. My rig is street legal but wont be used on the freeway or DD, and will be towed most places.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I would recommend 4.88 for 35" tires.
We run 4.56 with 35's, and they are too tall. The 4.56 worked well with 33's, and the 4.88's would put you right about where we were before. We are no where near red line in 3rd gear and she runs out of steam. Too expensive for us to go through all the diff's on the truck and the spares with another ratio.

we have 4.56 with 33" tires, with only 150 hp it moves ok, :)

you will be happier with maybe a 4:88 or even something like a 5:10. trust me.
also, do you run the 33 12.5' or the 10.5's??

baja ta 33x12.5, ..
4.88 or 5.1, damn, mm, well, it could be like setting the transfer to 4x4 low range, haha, we are working on something like an engine swap, well, just upgrading our 92 engine to a 2000, the same displacement but with 50 hp more, stock, .:D
