I got the info in the following two post from Tony T.

Team Riviera Memorial And Relief Fund

“It’s a well-known fact that desert racing is inherently a dangerous motor sport. Whether you’re a driver, co-driver or one of the many crew members, desert racing is dangerous. Tragedy struck the Riviera Racing team this morning when two crew members from the Riviera Race team were assembling Pit 5 and while erecting the communication antenna, mast electricity from a live power line arced, killing once crew member instantly and injuring another standing nearby.” (Dirt Newz.com)

Memorial services for Jeff Shephard will be held Saturday, May 5th , 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel of Memories, 12626 Woods Avenue, Norwalk, California 90650.

A relief fund in memory of Jeff Shephard and the injured pit crew member, Raul Navarrette, has been established to assist the families. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to:

Crew,

Well….We Finished!

However, we lost over 90 minutes due to a serious unfortunate accident. At race mile 14, Josh was at race speed in the thick dust and came upon Vehicle 1552. The co-driver was out of the car on course checking their engine to get it to start. Josh came in hot and attempted to shut it down; however, he hit the co-driver with a glancing blow. Josh and Steve stopped to render assistance. Steve immediately ran up course to divert race traffic around the accident location, and Josh aided the Co-driver and sent communications to all respective emergency response parties. The Co-driver, luckily, suffered multiple compound fractures of the lower leg. Once rescue had arrived, it turns out the medic was alone. After loading the Co-Driver, Steve proceeded to drive the medical vehicle to the main highway where the other medical staff was. 1552 proceeded on w/out a Co-driver to his awaiting crews at Pit 1 – continued on to finish the race. Josh waited for Steve to be returned and proceed on with the race. (Last we heard the Co-driver was in Surgery through Saturday evening – will send updates if and when received)

Through out the remainder of the race, each pit crew was rewarded with extra duties to fix the car as it came to the pits.

IR (Satellite) Tracker came un-mounted from the Dash
Limiting Strap Sheered – Zip Tied to Front Control Arm
Rebound on Front Shocks severely unreliable – Causing Sever Bottoming
Rear Control arm Pivot Bolt Lost – Had a shorter Bolt that Fit and wrapped W/Duct Tape
Right Rear Flat
Rear Cage Fracture under Tranny Mount
(All we know of at this Time)

Randy Ross Brought the Car home from Pit 7! Great Job Randy. I would like to thank all of you that helped in every situation. We could not do anything without all of you. Thank you to Ted and the Galles crew for prepping the car to get a finish.

Thank you,

Rigsby Racing
