I'm getting ready to install a bigger unit due to leaks and curious what you guys run? I've been looking at Summit's aluminum direct fit unit, because the price is reasonable at $350. I'm not planning to push more than 420hp out of the Windsor, so it's not going to be a big, hi-revving race motor. I imagine running at 4000rpm for extended periods, because I already do that during preruns. As it is currently, if/when it gets above 210 I back off.

The questions are:

What will hold up best in rough conditions?

Is there a preferred manufacturer?

Do I need to take any extraordinary mounting precautions?

The plastic tanks I assume are crap in the rough?

Well, we are in the process of putting in our new engine, and guess what.... The radiator seems to be shot.
Sooo, we just put in an order for a Griffin racing radiator. It should handle over 600+hp, so it gives us some room to work with. I'll post some pics when we get it.

This will hold up!

Whatever you get remember: NO PLASTIC, NO GLUE: Furnace Braze or TIG welded.

There are several good manufacturers however most of what you see in Summit or Jegs are what I call disposable.:( </O:p
You should isolate the radiator from all vibration.
So it is rubber mounted and there is sufficient hose to keep engine vibration out.
Look for Billet fittings particularly on the cap.
Ask if you can run a 22-PSI Cap?

Plastic tanks are CRAP on the street!
It was cheaper to get one of these:

For my ranger then to get the factory unit!

What would that C&R Radiator typically Cost?

What would that C&R Radiator typically Cost?

Really depends on what you buy...
I should expect between $350 and $1500.

You get what you pay for.
They will build whatever you need.
My last one was $700+ IIRC.

I haven't used my Ron Davis radiator yet but the 31"x19"x4" w/ oil cooler
cost me about $420. Looks quality and have never heard any complaints about them.

I have a Ron Davis radiator in my early Bronco. Very nice unit.

we really need a ron davis radiator, we ran with a stock unit, the original radiator found in the ford explorer, but, with electric fan; at this baja 500, there were some times when the engine was overheating the water temp reach 250 degrees, i just slow down a little, searching for some cold air, well, i just lower the rpms, thk god for us it worked, as soon as the temp droped, hit the gas again, the ambient temp start it to drop, that was good news for us, no more heating problems after that,. :D :D

I'm sure there are other factors that are affecting your overheating, but if you are interested in a Ron Davis radiator, feel free to call them at 1-623-877-5000. My friend Doug Schulz (an early Bronco guy, btw) is the general manager there. Ask for him (I think he's at extension 105) and tell him Todd Z. sent you and he can help you with some recommendations on what may work well for you.

thks for the tip,, this time we install a low temp thermostat, 180, we use tu ran without a thermostat, but, that doesn't help either i know, less with efi, using the thermostat it's a must have for every engine, need to keep some temp up, for us worked pretty well, the engine performance was awsome, except for those moments that i thought that the engine was going to explode haha, well, u know, when you overheat, a lot of vapor comes from everywhere, but well, thk god that didn't happend this time, we always have had that overheating problem, on the early bajas the temp reached 210 220, we keept going without a problem, we haven't done too much to solve that problem, we are using the stock radiator, pushing too much the engine creates more heat, right, we need a bigger radiator, or just a new one, this one it's too old, :D
