If you are planning to go to the Primm 300 this year (September), I highly suggest looking into rooms ASAP. The three hotels will fill up long before the hotel info hits the SCORE site. I would bet that Buffalo Bills is already done.

At the banquet last year, they handed out a letter with info on reserving rooms at decent rates. The contact is:

Convention Sales Manager
Primm Valley Resorts
Phone: 702-679-5470

or:

Paul Spence

Moss Bros will be there. Have had rooms at Whiskey Pete's reserved for 3 or 4 months now, I think Buffalo Bills was sold out already then? The crew with families has really enjoyed it at Whiskey Pete's, pretty nice pool for kids, easy parking, but you gotta shuttle or drive over to the stuff happening at BB's.

I was planning on going down with Moss' crew....then my buddy called and wants me to drive his class 11 in the race, BUT, if I am balls deep in my build (and I should be) I won't interupt the progress in order to go to the race.....if I am at a standstill on the build for some reason....THEN I'M THERE!

I plan on pre-running the course again, anyone else gonna?

I'll probably be chasing Rodd Fantellis Brother during the pre-run But I'm wondering how much ahead of Moss I need to be to finish just ahead of him at the finish line. last time we stopped a few times & gave a helping hand & such to people that needed help.

I have no idea how hard Moss pushed it or if they stopped to help anyone along the way.

But I know they ran the course an hour faster than me.

Part of me would like to try & keep up with them just to see how close I could keep up? http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/3gears.gif

Last year when I said that to Don he busted out with the loudest I've ever heard him laugh! :o

We did stop to rebuild the front shocks, but otherwise just motored along at maybe 50 or 60% speed. There is such a difference in how you drive when you have a trailer to haul the pre-runner home!

Well guys, don't fall our of your chairs... I apologize for the absence. Been going through some personal BS... and work has been slow. I'm trying to focus in both areas and fix a few things.

My goal and hope is to race Primm. If I can pull it off, I'll just take the win and then help someone else for the 1000 :o)

I really want to race... but it's been a rough few months since that disaster in the 250. Long story. I'll make another post under my own "forum" under race teams. Thanks for the encouragement to come back to C3R Blanco. See you guys in Primm either way - racing or not.

& to Dons Comments....
Yeah I wish I had a trailer & am thinking about it alot more these days.. ( But where would I keep it? )

If I had a trailer I'd feel better taking my Sammy to the Miller Jeep trail next month..
I fawked up my front end doing silly things like this.

to see trhe rest of Pics & Clips... http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2579

I can still drive it but it pulls hard to the left & has developed all sorts of noise's. :o

I feel it would be fine on the trail, but driving it on the hwy's is scary..

I do fear pre-running the course a bit considering how far from home I'll be but its as close as I can get to racing... http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/3gears.gif

at my age and after a couple back surgeries i should build something long and wide with a ton of travel more along the class one format. but i just don't know if i could live with myself driving a truggy......there has always been something magical about driving a real 4 wheel drive in off-road racing. from 40 entries down to one or two the challenge has always been to just get it to the finish line...the desert itself has always been the greatest competition. the fine line and technique of not how fast can you go but how fast can you and still finish. however i don't think these vehicles were ever intended to be racecars. mine is as tall as it is long and only half as wide. real bad formula over uneven terrain at high speed. this site is a real uplift to see there are still crazies out there like us. i have a few ideas i'd like to try out...i might just have to raise another '67 up from the dead and see if i can run with the moss bros.

Why don't you just take the race truck around like we do? Gives you a chance to try different shock settings, break in the springs, etc.

I probably won't be there on Friday but the rest of the team will be there. They have to be there with the racer on Thursday for inspection. So they will probably go on the prerun lap. I'll Fly into Las Vegas late Friday.

Starting in the rear of your class is something you ask for in the registration form, and you are first or second depending of the starting spot you draw.....
I think we should start a tread to now why some racers prefer rear starts and others donīt.

Each team is only givin so many pit pass'es.

Yes I'm Sure the Moss bros could if I actually wanted a Media Pass this year..
They are how I got the Pass before, Them/The Web Site.

But I dont see a need for the media pass this time..
only advantge it gave me was I could if I wanded too walk down through the course...

But only walk.

I have a pretty busy plan so far.
arrive Thursday Party & Gamble
Friday Pre-run Party & Gamble & figure out where the checkers pit I'm gonna be with is.
Race day Pitt support with checkers & take Pics as able. then Party & Gamble.
Sunday Probably check out the awards ceramony, Party & Gamble.

So I dont really see a need for a media pass this time. :)
I almost feel like getting it just in case though?

I guess I could contact Dominic...

But in case i dont get it, I'd need a pit pass at the very least.

At this race, it's gotten to where you are basically only going to be allowed in three places... two of which are generally on the same road. Been that way for years. The main pit, which has become a hell-hole of a dust-bed/dry lake / speed limit / horrible viewing area, has been "open" to anyone dumb enough to want to go there to watch the race. I realize they want the start/finish to be behind the hotel (awesome)... but unless they have plans to make that exit road longer - we used to run out of pits there years ago... before there were 100 teams with big-rigs. Don't know how the would do that now.

In past years, you ABSOLUTELY had to have a pit pass to get to pit B and C (which probably should be called A and B, since they are first and second on the course, unless my dead brain cells are taking over here)...

Anyway, they have a couple of times relaxed that and not checked for pit-passes, but more often "not so". The issue with getting a pit pass from a race team, is that we typically end up using the 4 or so we get, for our own pit guys / family members. Cam, I'm sure you could a press pass for your site(s), through Dominic... there is usually a press registration, like at Laughlin. I gotta think you could get to Pit B (just off the highway, maybe 8 miles north of Jean). In my opinion, it's about the ONLY decent place to watch the race.... lots of whoops, and let me tell you, the trophy trucks going through there are a HOOT to watch. Get there very early, back your truck in, and have a ball... if you can get pit or media passes. We, no doubt, will have a pit at each location, and will be splitting with the Andy Leavitt sportsman truck, I'm sure. "chase-pitting" for this race really sucks, due to traffic, so if you can garnish 3 teams to stay put... it's better for all - pit guys get to watch the whole race, and your team is less likely to get a crash/ticket/BLM issue. Radios are pretty key, if you are going to do that, otherwise you have no clue what your team is doing. Thank god we are going before the big boys chew this up.

Yes, Cam... when I said my truck was 'quarantined" for Primm... I meant there is no way I'm taking it to Pismo (if I still go - are we down to only two others?)... and further, I won't pre-run in it, because I haven't changed anything and it's working way too well (I should say my Dad hasn't changed anything except the damage and two new bumpers - thanks Dad and Tom). Did I mention we got rear-ended in that mess so hard, it very nearly ruined my fuel cell? Anyway, I will be posting new pics of the bumper, etc, as soon as I can get my web-wheeler id working again. I'd love to post to "rear start" vs front... maybe my dad will finally understand my probably ill-gotten logic.

New name, return to original start/finish area, first indoor
Contingency all part of 12th SCORE Terrible's Primm 300

Over 175 entries in18 Pro & 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks
Expected for Round 5 of six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series

LOS ANGELES—New ownership of the Primm Valley Resorts in Southern Nevada by Las Vegas-based Herbst Gaming has brought a new name, a return to the original start/finish line area and the sport’s first indoor pre-race contingency for next month’s newly named 12th Annual SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 desert race. SCORE officials announced the changes today for Round 5 of the six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series, to be held Sept. 7-8 in Primm, Nev., located 45 miles South of Las Vegas at the Nevada/California border.
Celebrating its 34th season this year as the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Series, the SCORE Desert Series is returning to Southern Nevada for the last of its three annual races in the U.S.
The 12th Annual SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 will feature 18 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks. With 168 official entries to date, this year’s starting grid is expected to reach over 175 vehicles.
For the sixth consecutive year, the race will be split into two groups with the open wheel, VW baja bug and slower truck classes starting at 6 a.m. The remaining truck classes, including the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division along with the unlimited Class 1 open-wheel desert race cars, will start at 1 p.m. One vehicle will start every 30 seconds in the elapsed-time race with a seven-hour time limit to become official finishers.
“We have had great relationships with the two previous owners of the Primm resort area, but the Herbst family is part of our SCORE racing family and their new ownership has had an immediate impact on this event and will take it to an entirely new level even before the green flag drops,” said Sal Fish, SCORE CEO and President. “We sincerely thank the Herbst family for once again assisting our sport in such a magnanimous way.”
Besides adding the prominent Terrible’s name to the title of the race, the Herbst family, working with Reliant Energy, and the Bureau of Land Management have together finalized an agreement that will allow the start/finish line area to return to the desert adjacent to the parking lot on the backside of the Buffalo Bill’s Resort. Because of land closures in the Primm area, SCORE was forced to move its start/finish line area onto a dry lake bed on the east side of the railroad tracks in the middle of the desert for the last two years. The land used for the first nine years of the event included the only access tunnel under the railroad tracks to the majority of the open desert used for the race course. That land is now being developed by the Clark County Department of Aviation for the new Ivanpah regional airport and is closed to off-highway vehicle use.
To enable the race to start and finish in a more fan and racer-friendly area like it did for its first nine years, the race vehicles will be able to head out into the open desert by crossing the railroad tracks by using the Reliant Energy private paved bridge. The bridge is located adjacent to the East side of the property, between Buffalo Bill’s and the Primm Valley Resort.
The Herbst family is also allowing SCORE to have the majority of the pre-race Manufacturer’s Midway and contingency to be held on the floor of the spacious Star of the Desert Arena at Buffalo Bill’s. This will mark the first time in desert racing history that this popular pre-race activity will be held indoors. The midway will start just outside of the back entrance to the arena with the 18-wheeler displays, extending inside the arena for the balance of the more than 50 race-related companies who will be participating.
“This will create a unique and different environment for our pre-race activities, with music and multi-media opportunities to make the experience even more enjoyable and fan-friendly,” added Fish. “The Herbst family will also be adding their own special brand of ‘Terrible’s’ hospitality to the entire event, including a fiesta-type atmosphere at both the start/finish line area and our post-race awards celebration. The awards are being moved back to Saturday night at 10 p.m. in the Star of the Desert Arena after the last several years of it being held on Sunday morning.”
Good fortune smiled down on veteran racer and TV sportscaster Cameron Steele, who drew the first starting position in both the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck and the SCORE Lite divisions in the computerized drawing for starting positions on Aug. 8.
In a sport where there is no qualifying or open pre-running (in the U.S.), the drawing for start positions has added significance and the Steele’s No. 16 Desert Assassins Chevy Silverado SCORE Trophy-Truck and No. 1201 VW-powered Desert Assassins open-wheel desert race car were selected randomly in the computerized drawing at the SCORE Int’l headquarters in Los Angeles.
A total of 28 SCORE Trophy-Trucks are entered to date, and the high-tech, 800-horsepower unlimited production trucks will lead the afternoon group into the Southern Nevada desert.
The first vehicle to leave the start line in the morning portion of the event will be Class 10 husband and wife racers Adam and Bekki Wik of Las Vegas , in a Honda-powered Jimco open-wheel desert race car.
Ten of last year’s 17 Pro class winners have entered so far, including four of last year’s top five overall finishers. Also entered are 9 of the first 11 overall winners of the race.
With one race win this season, Steele is leading the SCORE Lite point standings, but he has struggled in SCORE Trophy-Truck where he is currently 22nd in points.

Starting behind the 28 SCORE Trophy-Trucks will be the unlimited Class 1 for open-wheel desert race cars. In the first 11 years of the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300, SCORE Trophy-Trucks have seven Overall race wins while Class 1 has four.
Drawing the first starting spot in Class 1 was Todd Cuffaro. Coronado , Calif. , in a Chevy-powered Porter open-wheel desert race car.
Eric Solorzano, Tijuana , Mexico , and George Seeley, Glendale , Calif. , have the most class wins in the SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300. Solorzano has won Class 11 in seven of the first 11 years of this race in a VW Sedan while Seeley has five victories in Class 5 in his unlimited VW Baja Bug.
Bob Shepard, Phoenix , returns as the defending overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck winner in the No. 82 Arciero-Miller Racing Chevy CK1500 but he has a new racing partner this year in Ryan Arciero, Foothill Ranch, Calif. , who is actually the team’s driver of record this year.
Larry Roeseler, Hesperia , Calif. , and Las Vegas ’ Troy Herbst, who finished second overall last year (4 minutes, 15 seconds behind Shepard) and won Class 1 last year return in the No. 100 Terrible Herbst Motorsports Smithbuilt-Ford.
Behind Class 1 (36 entries), the classes with the most entries to date are: SCORE Trophy-Truck (28), Class 1-2/1600 (24), SCORE Lite (16) and Class 10 (13).
The highly-competitive SCORE Desert Series has 21 racers separated by just 54 points in the Overall standings after four rounds of the 2007 season.
Pre-race festivities on Friday (Sept. 7) for the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300, including tech and contingency and the SCORE Manufacturer’s Midway, will be held from Noon to 6 p.m. in the Star of the Desert Arena at Buffalo Bill’s. The post-race awards celebration will be held at the Star of the Desert Arena at 10 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 8).
The 2007 SCORE Desert Series includes the chase for the $75,000 Kartek Off-Road contingency bonus to be awarded to several 2007 SCORE Class point champions along with the run for the $12,000 Toyota True Grit and Toyota Milestone Awards.

So from what I'm starting to figure out is now the Primm event is basically only Fri & Sat now & sunday is a dead day with no events planned?

Is this correct?

The awards thingy will take place at 10pm Sat.

So should I cancel my sunday night stay? :confused:heck I could just leave on Sunday morn instead?

But then again I bet traffic sucks heading back to L.A. on sundays..:o

9 of 11 Overall winners, 45 racers with 83 class wins ready

To challenge at 12th SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300

Over 190 entries in18 Pro & 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks
Expected for Round 5 of six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series

With Southern Nevada racers leading the parade, nine of 11 former overall race winners and 45 racers with a combined 83 class wins are ready for next Saturday’s 12th Annual SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 desert race. Round 5 of the six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series, will be held Sept. 7-8 in Primm , Nev. , located 45 miles South of Las Vegas at the Nevada/California border.
Either one of the three Herbst brothers or Brian Collins of Las Vegas have won the overall title at the popular desert race five times in the first 11 years of the race. Ed and Tim Herbst, the oldest of the three Las Vegas brothers, won the overall in both 1998 and 2003 while Troy Herbst, won the overall in Primm 1999 and again 2001. In 2001, Troy Herbst had driving assistance from Larry Roeseler, Hesperia , Calif.
Collins, splitting driving with Larry Ragland, Cave Creek , Ariz. , won the 2005 overall title.
The Ed and Tim Herbst and Collins wins were in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division while Troy Herbst earned his in the unlimited Class 1.
The non-Nevadans who have won the race overall and are entered this year are Steve Sourapas (2000, Class 1), Mike Julson, Santee , Calif. (2002, Class 1), Alan Pflueger, Honolulu (2004, SCORE Trophy-Truck) and Bob Shepard, Phoenix (2006, SCORE Trophy-Truck).
With 175 official entries to date, this year’s starting grid is expected to reach over 190 vehicles.
The course is a 72-mile loop starting and finishing directly behind the back parking lot of Buffalo Bill’s Resort. Vehicles will run either two, three or four laps, depending on the speed of the class.
Ten of last year’s 17 Pro class winners have entered, including four of last year’s top five overall finishers.
Behind Class 1 (37 entries), the classes with the most entries to date are: SCORE Trophy-Truck (28), Class 1-2/1600 (25), SCORE Lite (17) and Class 10 (13).
Tim Herbst drove the majority of last year’s race in Class 1 while Roeseler drove some of the race in the Terrible Herbst Motorsports No. 19 Ford F-150 in SCORE Trophy-Truck with Ed Herbst.
Heading into the final two races of the 2007 season, the highly-competitive SCORE Desert Series has 21 racers separated by just 54 points in the Overall point standings after the first four events and the top five all have one driver from Southern Nevada . They are separated by just 22 points
B.J. Richardson of Las Vegas leads the Overall and Class 1 points with 284 in a Bunderson-Chevy while B.J. Baldwin of Las Vegas leads SCORE Trophy-Truck and is second overall with 281 points in the No. 1 Baldwin Motorsports Chevy Silverado. Third overall and second in SCORE Trophy-Truck with 278 points is the team of Mark Post, San Juan Capistrano , Calif. /Rob MacCachren, Las Vegas , in the No. 3 Riviera Racing Ford F-150.
Fourth overall and third in SCORE Trophy-Truck is the team of Ragland/Collins with 264 points in the No. 12 Collins Motorsports Chevy Silverado and fifth overall and leading Class 1-2/1600 with 262 points is the team of L.J. Kennedy, Orange , Calif. /Sammy Ehrenberg, Las Vegas , in a ChenoSPF-VW.
Among Southern Nevada racers, Tim Herbst and Rob MacCachren each of four class wins in this race while Colins and Ed and Troy Herbst have three class wins each.
Donald Moss, Sacramento , Calif. , has four wins in Class 3 in Primm while Pflueger has three, two in Protruck and his one overall in SCORE Trophy-Truck.
Good fortune smiled down on veteran racer and TV sportscaster Cameron Steele, who drew the first starting position in both the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck and the SCORE Lite divisions in the computerized drawing for starting positions on Aug. 8.
In a sport where there is no qualifying or open pre-running (in the U.S.), the drawing for start positions has added significance and Steele’s No. 16 Desert Assassins Cadillac Escalade SCORE Trophy-Truck and No. 1201 VW-powered Desert Assassins open-wheel desert race car were selected randomly in the computerized drawing at the SCORE Int’l headquarters in Los Angeles.
The first vehicle to leave the start line in the morning portion of the event will be Class 10 husband and wife racers Adam and Bekki Wik of Las Vegas , in a Honda-powered Jimco open-wheel desert race car. Both have one class win in this race, Bekki in 2000 in Class 1-2/1600 and Adam in 2005 in Class 10.
With one race win this season, Steele is leading the SCORE Lite point standings, but he has struggled in SCORE Trophy-Truck where he is currently 22nd in points.
Drawing the first starting spot in Class 1 was Todd Cuffaro. Coronado , Calif. , in a Chevy-powered Porter open-wheel desert race car.
Pre-race festivities on Friday (Sept. 7) for the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300, including tech and contingency and the SCORE Manufacturer’s Midway, will be held from 10a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Star of the Desert Arena at Buffalo Bill’s. The post-race awards celebration will be held at the Star of the Desert Arena at 10 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 8).

& I just called SCORE & to confirm PRIMM is now a two day event so we can all start cancelling our sunday night reservations & come home a day sooner if you planned on staying the extra day..

Sounds like their view on doing this was alot of people dont end up going to the awards anyways & just head home so they should do it Sat night.

To be honest, this might save me alot of money at the tables if I leave a day sooner. :o

Update on my team.
We'll all be staying at Whiskey Pete's.

The Klamath Falls crew left this morning for Primm, they will be in there late tonight. So if you see a red F350 with Oldhorseracing on the fender say hi.

The Idaho crew is leaving this afternoon with the racer in tow and will be down there tomorrow morning. If you see my green F350 with the same Oldhorseracing on it, say hi to the guys.

The Utah guys are heading down tomorrow also.

We have another Idaho crew that is heading down Thursday evening to be there Friday.

I fly into Vegas tomorrow around 7 from Oakland and the rest fly in Friday. We have never been to this event, so as far as pits go we'll figure out what are options are Thursday night or Friday morning. Our Pits will be marked with Oldhorseracing so if you guys need anything just say hi, if we have it we'll help.

Are we ready... well, if you see a group of guys painting an early bronco in the parking lot, you will have found my team. :)

Had a GREAT time today pre-running/Reconnaissance with Ken Levitt as my Co-Driver, I feel I learned alot from him today.
Thanks Ken. :D

The start of the course is Crazy!
Kinda seems much more like a dirt Bike SuperCross evernt course than a SCORE race..
those that did'nt pre-run will be in for a big surprise. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/ewg.gif

I hope to get some pics of it in the morning to show you guys tomorrow night.

Yeah thats the Plan. :)

The Biz. Cards thay made for me declare me as their Racing Feature Writer.

I hope I can live up to what they need from me.
The way I see it, is its just an excuse for me to go to more races. :D

But I need more Broncos like you Brian to start racing so I have more to Print.
