That Chevy steering wheel needs to go though....
I knew it!
I saw that wheel & said to myself, "is that a chevy wheel?"

i was originally built as a class 3 score truck but spent most of it's life in the HPORRA (high plaines off road racing association), north dakota, south dakota, and nebraska. there used to be as many as 6 or 7 races a year. usually 100 miles sometimes longer.
the # 404 is because the hporra class was v-8 4x4, class 4, 2wd's were class 3, and i believe the 4cyl class was class 8, just different rules than score
the story on the wheel is they put in a tilt column because one of the guys that drove it was really tall and could not get in and out, a quick release steering wheel would have cost money and the chevy tilt column was free i am sure. off road racing in the midwest was a little lower budget then the west coast stuff back then! There are still a few old timers around here that raced the mint 400 and the baja, alot of those trucks are actually pavement pounders now
i am still pondering putting this one back on the street, but it looks like there are some races on montana and wyoming that may make it worth racing again!
I also just took mike swanson's class 3 scout on trade....maybe a vintage racing team is in order!

is this Association still around..(quick search found nothing)?
just a whole lot closer to home than the deserts of Ca and Mexico....
who organizes the Montana and Wyoming races you mentioned?
Tom
I was thinking the samething. We have raced the ranger in NE. I made my old bronco street legal and still raced it. At least I knew by driving it around it was reliable!

Hey, do me a favor... take back those "crazy indians" that come down from some dakota tribe and race heavy metal (snore) in the old ford class 8 truck. That old thing hauls ass... and anyone that pays attention knows they have been tough in that class in SNORE. They stick class 3 in "heavy metal"...and by the way, it was one of the best races I have ever run: fun, great competition, and money paid back to the racers (what a concept).
Seriously though, welcome aboard. Freshen that thing up, change steering wheels, and let's pick a Snore class 3 SWB challenge that brings out more rigs like this!!
KUDOS TO CAM FOR DOING THIS.... it really is sparking some interest!! 6 or 7 at Primm??? it's an improvement!!

This note reminds me of when Ken was more "perky" about getting entries to come to race.

the bronco will have to stay put for a while, my dad doesn't want to race it
but there are a few of us in the black hills of sd dragging out some of the old HPORRA trucks out of the barns for powell, wyoming and the wild west 100 in october near billings MT
Hoping to have mike swansons old class 3 scout up and running for the october race!
