I figured Primm a perfect chance to see how the duallys gonna pull my Bronco.

I now a have a tow rig, But lack a trailer.

Might one of you have one I could borrow for the race?

I'm just gonna pre-run the course no racing as of yet for me.

While I have one you're welcome to use, I think the trip up to Sacramento to get it and the trip to return it might cost a lot more in fuel than a local equipment rental outfit (such as United Rentals) would charge! The last time I rented a trailer (a couple of years ago) it was around $40/day, and like $150 for a week!
Just be sure you don't tell them you're towing a 5-6000 pound behemoth on it! "Nope, I'm not sure how much it weighs - it can't be over 4000!"

Why's that?
If the trailer cant handle the Bronco, Its probably better to not use it?

You know I just thought of something..
I've never even bothered to look & see if the Dually has a tow package on it?

I just assumed it did.
I'll have to look when I get back in town.

& what should I look for in a trailer for the Bronco..

Lets say I was gonna buy one.
Electric brakes & at least a 2 axle, or do I need a 3 for 6000lbs?

Is a wood floor strong enough?

Dave, I think he bought a gasser. For the price of fuel to Sac and back and then returning it, he could buy a brand new trailer.....Not to mention the price of a tow truck when he gets his dually high centered on a pot hole on I5 :)

Nope I did'nt buy anything.
It belongs to my girlfriend, if I would of bought a dually it would been a FORD & Diesel. :)

Actually its not so much the weight you put on it, tell them it will be 6000 pounds, and make sure it has decent tires. Just be sure to tell them you are using it locally. The rental outfits get real squirrelly when you start crossing counties and going into other states.

You can easily go to 12,000 pounds with 2 axles and a bumper pull trailer, but they typically rate them for only 9,995 because there are some license issues when you go over that.

When I've done this in the past, they said "NO WAY" to a full size bronco... so I went back and said... OOPS, it was a Bronco II. The dumb-ass bought it!!

Anyway - two axles is more than enough, in my personal opinion. Wood floors would work, but I'm pretty happy with my Carson trailer with a metal bottom... I think it was only 1500 bucks. In retrospect, I wish I'd bought a longer one. Towing anything other than an SWB is a real pain. My short-bed F-150 xtra cab practically hangs off!!

Mine is occupied, but coming down from Idaho anyway, so I'm not much help!!

Cam-
Raffa has rented from HD before...told them some small rice burning tin can of a car that he "planned" to haul
as long as the rig fits and doesnt beat the rental yards fenders...you ought to be good to go.
Wood floors are ok. but as insurance I opted to lay a couple 2x10s on the trailer over the 3/4 ply deck for hauling Dads Toyota cross country.

I think that trailer can handle the weight you're talking about and as long as it has good tires and the bearings are greased sufficiently, there should be no problem, ...but.... I don't know if you're gonna be able to fit blanco between the fenders!

Blanco, I don't think I would trust it. Even though those are probably 3500 pound axles, that looks like it is only 2x2 angle in the back section. The front section has that upper row of frame that turns it into a truss structure, but the back does not. There are pictures of it being repaired for too much weight being hung off the back. I have seen some of this type of trailer with a diagonal that runs from the frame on the top of the fenders to the back, this one has nothing. You can probably get a Samurai on with no problem, but probably bow the thing down as you load it. Blocking it up in the back as you load probably helps, and then load the truck toward the front. Your Bronco is going to be at least 45% of the weight in the back axle, and the back axle will be well back of the trailer axles. I am afraid you would bend it. Unless that is 3x3 or 3/8" thick angle or better, I wouldn't risk it.

Ditto everything don said. Save your money and buy a decent trailer. I would either buy NEW or very slightly used. GOOD REGULAR mainenence when you do get one, upgrade tires, carry 2 spares! I put two RV scisor jacks on the rear corners of mine. B4 loading, I run them down with an 18V cordless and socket. Run them back up after loading. Works great. No stress on the ball, the tow vehicle, or the trailer.

Yeah now that you mentioned it that was bent after he stupidly cut off some braces to clear the tires of a pre-runner Ranger & it instantly folded.

& I'm not looking to buy one as of yet...
I just want to borrow one for this race...

But it is interesting to learn whats recomended before I do make the move to purchasing.

This one looks as wide as the one we haul chupakabras on..... with the BAJA T/Aīs theres only 2" of space to spare on each side (wen we get it centered) 4" total..... unless you go monster truck style an use smaller tires to haul it, I donīt think blanco is going to fit in this trailer.

As the master trailer borrower, I used to go to uhaul and rent their car hauler to tow my blazer from the Midwest to Baja. I would tell them I have an old CJ-5 Jeep. My blazer's tires on one side were sticking over the edge, but I had no problems towing it.

Good to know that you've been doing it & they will hold up.

Thanks.

I may be interested in your trailer. What are the axle weight ratings? Does it have brakes? If so what type? How wide is the deck? What is the distance between the fenders? Got a picture or two you can post?

Might you be driving through L.A. some time with it?
I dont know where I'd put it, But I really need to get one.

Because of not having one & being too cheap to rent one I went to Plaster city for the new years eve race with out my Bronco. :(
