I may as well get a build thread going here. There is not much to show and the goin' may be slow, but here we go. :D
My original intentions were to keep the build to Class specs, but this rig will not be a race truck, so there will be some deviations. The cage will be spec, as will the wheel base; however, I'm undecided on the track width. This is my toy and chase rig, so a little extra width may be more fun. I intend to put the best shocks money can buy to the suspension, but there will be some interim choices to get me by while I'm gathering parts and fabbing for the build.
As indicated in another thread, I plan to cut/turn/lengthen my own beams. I'm sticking with 35" rubber until the monitary resources show themselves for CNC knuckles. The rear will get a Cone 40 spline FF high pinion 9 and there may be a simple trussed 35 spline 9 in there as an interim choice as well.
The current top priority is getting a business off the ground, so sometimes decisions will be made that don't lean toward the build, but it WILL get done. I've had this rig for 8 years now and there are no plans to ever get rid of it.
First up is my latest project, which is the first product to be sold through the biz:

These are some rock sliders that I built when the build direction was leaning towards rockcrawling. I spent 250hrs working on these and the time paid off. Haven't managed to damage them yet in the rocks. :D They'll stay on until such a time that I can't justify carrying the added weight or having the extra protection. There are still a few rocks in my future.
The first picture below was the configuration of the Bronco before I succommed to my go-fast dreams.

Strange enough, the engine has been running cooler since I mounted the lights and skid plate. I'm undecided, but I may not cut the air holes in the skidplate.

Here's a couple of pics of my skidplate....before it was all rusty and ugly. It's about 80% complete from a fab standpoint. I've got to build the x-member under the bell housing and eventually get it coated. Here it is:

Ready to tear down. I should make some progress this weekend. I intend to get the D50 center link installed, replace the U-joints, install the Camburg arms and get to work on the cut/turn. The budget is unusually tight right now, so shocks are still up in the air. If I can't find a good used pair of King or Fox 2.5's, I may give FOA a shot as an interim step.

You may already know this, but Sway-A-Ways can work just as well as Fox and King and you can find them used dirt-cheap. Not to mention the fact that the collapsed lengths are shorter, making them better for tight spaces. Recently there were 2 pair on RDC for 200/pr.
Honestly, I'd buy whatever comes up at a good price. I use Fox in the front of mine and SAW in the rear because of the collapsed length... still does fine.
Yikes
09-01-2007, 07:03 PM
Thanks Steve. Good point on the collapsed lengths. There certainly isn't much room under the rear. People seem to be 50/50 on Sway-A-Way. Service is what comes to mind for complaints. Any issues for you there? I'm curious what your opinion is on FOA's as well, for a budget build.....what you've heard and such. I've read a few positive comments about them, but there isn't much history there yet. I've been considering them as an interim step until I can get the cage built, coilovers, etc.

The cage will be Class 3 legal, as will the track width and wheelbase, but I intend to keep this Bronco as a prerun/chase rig. It's still too nice to hack up for racing.

Supposedly their service was really bad for a while but I've heard it's much better now. To me it doesn't really matter though. I've always serviced and valved shocks myself (I suspect you'll do the same), so I never had the need for "customer service". I've bought a lot of parts from SAW through Kartek and never had an issue. They have a lot of retailers, so finding a supplier is easy.
I really don't know anything about FOA.
EDIT: My only complaint with SAW is the cost of valve shims. If you can get a "Racer" discount at one of their retailers though, the price difference is negligible.

I have to say, I'm a big Fox fan. I used to make some of their internals and have used their MTB shocks for years. In fact the DHX 5.0 is kinda the MTB version of a quad bypass, but it also allows adjustment of the reservoir chamber volume, along with air pressure to help control the compression curve and bottom out resistance. Good stuff!!They are very particular about quality and it shows in the performance.

Man, that's harsh! Seriously though. This isn't a TT, Class 1 or even an incredibly well thought-out CLass 3 build (yours Ricardo).:) Proper tuning works wonders and I think SAWs are more than sufficient for this specific build.
That said, I still go back to use whatever you can get a deal on. On man's junk....

I have 2 pair of FOA smoothbody resi's, 12" and 18"
They are not installed yet, so no performance feedback, They do have more oil in them than a similar SAW so hopefully fade will be less. My biggest concern is how well they are going to hold their oil. There always seems to be a little oil mess where they sit.

This is what someone told me. Back in the day there was a company making the shocks that most of the guys were using called, Custard(?) Then King bought them out and slapped their name on the same shocks and Custard changed its name and went on to build Sway a Way. So he was saying that they are basically the same shocks. Not sure if any of this is true. But thats what someone told.

Well, the fun has been put on hold for a bit while I take care of some much needed maintenance. My TPS is acting up, so I'm going to replace it and the IAC while the valve body is off. The valve body was super dirty after almost 150k. I cleaned it and being as I am, couldn't leave it alone. So I decided to port the mouth to improve airflow. I'm sure there won't be a HP gain, but I'm hoping the throttle response will benefit. We'll see. Just the lower port (as mounted) is done in the pics.

How much lift are those beams set up for?
What's your target lift number after the beams are extended?
Are you going to extend beams that already have the ball joint moved out to correct camber? It seems like you might end up with beams that are aligned for too much lift. Wouldn't it make more sense to extend the beam first then correct camber?

Wouldn't it make more sense to extend the beam first then correct camber? Given the projected angle of the beam, extending 1"-1 1/2" per side will only yield 1/4" or so lift and has 0 impact on camber. The intention is to stay within Class 3 specs and lengthen just the passenger axle. Obviously that means they'll be stretched from the pivot end. The clearance for the centersection is a minimal modification, so I'm not concerned with that. Bump location will be moved.

Yes, I would rather have the Autofab mounts, but there are too many other items on the list right now to justify the expense. Anyway, while I'm at it I've got to replace the pan gasket. I've got a Stage 8 bolt kit that's been waiting for that to happen for a couple of years now. Ha!

Hey Brian,
Did you check out the build up on the Retro Bronco's 393 engine? Man that thing was a thing of beauty. I don't remember what the final numbers where on the torque and horsepower. I'm sure it wasn't cheap either. Still, nice eye candy.

We went with the 400 because it matched the big block bellhousing on the C-6 already in the truck. Bored and stoked it to 434. Alluminum heads. Our cam keeps the rpms fairly low redlining around 5500. We figured that the average speed of these races has been around 30-40mph so we don't really need the high rpms for to long. That was our thought at least. 500HP and 540Ft.Lbs We'll see if it works the way we were thinking, but right now it is a real strong engine. Not the easiest to get parts for.

I went from TSL SX's to these(rockcrawler stuff), so my impressions may be somewhat skewed. :D The performance has been great. They're durability surprised me in the rocks and they flex quite well at 10-12 psi. They don't chunk out near as easily as the SX's, but then they haven't got quite the grip either, but it's good regardless. They are MUCH more stable at speed; however, I was able to run the 36" SX's at 15psi in the fast stuff and use them for extra suspension. The sidewalls, albeit tough are not as stiff, so the pressure has to remain above 20-25 depnding on the conditions. With that, these feel a bit more harsh. Since most desert folks have good suspension and run tires at near street pressures, this again is somewhat skewed.
I really like the 13.5 width with the 8" wheel. I was skeptical at first, but it's worked out great. The foot print is big and that means traction. Believe it or not, these tires are about 4-8lbs heavier than the SX's. That was a shock, as I was expecting to drop some pounds making the switch from my old wheel/tire combo.
Lastly. The tires ride very nice on the street and are quiet. They seem to be wearing well, again compared to the SX's. I've run BFG MT's for a lot of years and would definitely pic these tires over them. I think they're one of the best dual sport tires out there.

http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/615854/fullsize/img_0371.jpg
The rundown:
Front end
Glassworks 3" flare fenders
Custom Mason/homegrown beams - 1 1/4" over per side with 1" uniballs.
Sway 2.5x14 piggy's
Beard limit straps
D44 4.56:1 open centersection
Camburg cromo heimed radius arms and mountsRear end
Autofab 3" flare quarters. A little beat, but easily repaired.
Deaver F53 11 leaf race packs
Sway 2.5x12 threaded body resi's
Fabtech limit straps
Still need:
Extended brakelines
Fabricate swingset steering
Deaver coils with Autofab poly bumps
2.5x4 rear air bumps. Will probably go with FOA.
Extended front axle shaft - 2.5" over.
Fabricate: Front and rear shock mounts, rear bump mounts and rear
shackles
Rebuild and revalve? the rear shocks.
Revalve the front shocks.
Fender/Quarter mounting hardware
Bling Bling fuel door
This is a very budget build. So far I've got less than 2k invested. I anticipate about another 1-2k to finish, including painting the sides of the Bronco with the factory stripes.

Originally the plan was to do the rear suspension this weekend. Decided to do the quarters first to gain the space. Unfortunately the weekend didn't begin until about 1pm Saturday, but I managed to get one quarter mounted. Today is shot.
Here's the cut quarter hanging by the inner fender.

Mounted up! Got the fuel door on as well. Despite careful measurement, I ended up about 1" too low because I didn't factor in the flare. Oh well! Will just have to fab up a new tube. Decided to use most of the existing holes (these are used Autofab quarters), but a few will get filled. Doesn't look the greatest, but a few extra bolts will just keep it on should it be attacked by cactus.
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/619158/fullsize/img_0390.jpg
Trimmed the rear up as well. I've got a down and dirty bumper in mind that should flow well with the angles.

I have a question about the front fenders. What made you go with the Glassworks pieces over the Autofab fenders?
Also, would you consider the front fenders a "bolt-on"? I have a '96 that I would like to add a set of fiberglass fenders to, but as of yet am undecided on which ones I am going to buy.
Thanks,

I found a deal on the Glassworks. New set for $300. They're hand-laid and a good fit. Very similar to Autofab. No, I would not consider them bolt on. I stripped the factory inner fenders and then mounted the glass to them. It was quite a bit of work, but it becomes a bolt on unit afterwards.
Blanco
04-21-2008, 07:28 AM
Yeah, I cant think of any that are an actual bolt on replacement.
I mean , the wheel opening is much bigger than the stock one & so the inner well match up.
I've seen it adapted to work with the factory inner wheel well & inner fender as well allowing you to keep all your stuff mounted in its factory spots.
But as Brian said it does require a bit of effort.

But I will also say, you get what you pay for.

And the reason this becomes a bigger job than bolt-on, is the the metal fender supports the whole core-support for the radiator. Anyone that has taken off their fenders realizes that the radiator is free to move back and forth like a wet noodle. If you were to reinforce the top of the core support to a cage or front hoops, you'd be able to pursue more bolt-on options... if they exist. Most glass is designed to have dzus-fittings and therefore some kind of a base behind it (small tubing, etc). I like the reinforced panels above.. but then really, you have a fiberglass fender, bolted to a metal fender. Looks great, you get the extra "flare"... but have you saved any weight at the end of the project? I wouldn't think so. Isn't that the primary reason for going to glass in the first place?
Yikes

My primary reason was to give clearance for the tires. Cutting was an option, but I opt'd to spend $420 for front and rear glass so it still looks good. Very little weight can be saved with glass fenders on the front. By the time you throw in the tubing and mounts, it probably comes within just a few pounds of the steel. I stuck with the inner fenders because the cage isn't built yet. Once built, they'll be removed and a tube structure will take their place. Believe me, if this was being built as a race truck I would go about it in a completely different way.

Being I already was doing an enigine cage I feel it probably saves something.
I swapped to glass only because of the damage my tires were doing to my front fenders & visa versa.
I never wanted to go with glass, but as my tires would stuff it kept making contact.
& in my Opinion only the 80-86 Bronco's have the bodys lines that look good with a simple cut of the fenders.

Both Autofab and Spirit/Spirkoff sell a rear upper shock mount for Broncos for around $800. Spirit's is an in-house installation, Autofab's is pre-fabbed & bolt-on.

Removed the cotter pin, drilled the calipes and put in a 1/4" bolt. Didn't have any prevailing torque nuts, so I used a Nylock, cross drilled the bolt and pinned it.

The F53's are coming out about 1/2" or so shorter than the Nationals, so the 2 link bars will have to be shortened accordingly. Tomorrow I'll get that done and weld the upper mounts for the limit strap clevis'.
Sitting at full droop +1/2" or so.

Have another solid days work to wrap up the rear. Still need to bleed the brakes, run a vent line, rebuild the shocks, machine the wheels, get a driveshaft built, etc. All the small stuff. Check and check again.
Shortened the 2 link bars. Insert a 6" piece of 1 1/4 x 1/4 wall DOM.

Using the same old poly bump stops for now. Air bumps aren't in the budget right now. Strapped it'll cycle just about 17", assuming I don't have to adjust it up for the driveshaft angle. Interesting enough, from ride height to full droop the yoke to flange length only changed 1/8".

Ha! You weren't supposed to see that. Well, Paul Wilson was running it this way without issues, so I figured it would suffice for a bit. Once I get bumps, I'll fab up some heavy duty units with a strike pad........that fit.

I ran those plates for 4 years and went thru 2 sets of springs. Each were rearched when they sagged. I dont drive as hard and you racers but I never babied the Bronco. I suspect the idea of sectioning them to fit would be good.
The whole rear setup was pretty good. Jeremy at Spirit did it and it sure looks like his full stock setup, but I never looked at his plates.
I am glad that setup is in good hands. Goodby leafs.

Lokar should have solution(s) for the p-brake cables.
I'm lost though, why replace the ARB with a Detroit. To me that is going backwards. Obviously not for you, which makes me curious about what you are thinking and why. I don't think yours is the "wrong" answer, just one that wouldn't be mine.
EDIT: How I now build spring plates. Looks like I seriously need to move away from the ocean.

The ARB requires a solenoid and an air line. Additional potential failure modes. For crawling the ARB would be my choice, but I'm very comfortable with the Detroit and have driven with them for years, even as daily drivers. I would always have the ARB locked in the dirt anyway. For me it makes no sense to introduce potential for problems into the system.

I personally run an ARB & am actually considering swaping to a spool.
& thats because a mechanical system is just one less thing to worry about. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/shrug.gif
Since Brian plans to race his Bronco & Mechanical locker gives him one less thing to worry about.
An example would be when we went to pre-run the MINT400 course in my Bronco, & my compressor cut out right before hand.
It worked fine the day before.
So we started the course with out it with a rear open.
Then a few miles in the drivers side axle u-joint decided to come apart. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/eusa_doh.gif
So I could no longer use 4 wheel drive.
so at this point I'm trying to pre-run the course in one wheel drive.
The front axle was out & the rear ARB would'nt work because of eletrical issues.
& that day I start thinking you know, considering how much I'll actually drive the bronco on the street I can deal with a spool or Detroit locker to give me the security of knowing the rear will at least still be locked even if I have electrcal issues, & cant use the front axle. :o

I occasionally drive a Detroit on the street. Used to be my DD. Drove it as a DD for about 10 years. If that truck had to go back into DD service that Detroit would be gone so fast it'd make your head spin. It would be replaced by an ARB or a Tru-Trac.
The ARB failures that I've seen could be traced to two things, poor wiring practices and dirt in the ARB solenoid. There are cures for both. Start with not using the ARB solenoid(s), switches, or wiring. And put a freakin' filter on the solenoid's exhaust port. That's where the dirt gets in.
I hear you both on failure modes, but don't delude yourself into thinking that the Detroit lacks them. That Detroit of mine wore out it's case bores where the side "gears" register. Then the axle shafts started "broaching" the bores they fit thru. Talk about a mess to clean up. Foolishly I fixed it with Oilite Bronze bushing inserts.
For a racer I wouldn't mess around with anything short of a spool. A steel spool, and not a "mini-spool."

Went to the night race in Barstow with Dale yesterday and got to shake Chris Blais' hand. Awesome experience for me, but I was standing there like an idiot in awe and didn't say much. Very nice guy.
The rear suspension worked excellent. One of the clevis' twisted and caught the springs at some point. Other than that it was flawless. Really makes the front end feel like $hit now. Regardless, it was fast enough through the whoops to scare my "co-dog" a few times. He couldn't believe what it was driving through and how fast, how it fealt, etc. It's sitting a bit high in it's travel, but feels good. Once two spares are mounted, it should be perfect. Never bottomed in the rear, but I've joined Nick in the endless persuit of smashing A/C boxes. Next week the front end gets torn down.

Got to work on the shackles today. They're 1" longer than the factory shackles and will still clear the bottom of the body without modifications. I used Delrin bushings, modified to clear the factory hanger form, Cromo pivot pins and 5/8 bolts. The Shackle is made from DOM and 1018, because once again that's what I had avaialble and it should be plenty strong. Thanks guys. Now Cam, you know I just started fabbing stuff a couple of years ago. You could be doing the same thing. Just gotta get started.
Here's the next installment. Remember my 250 hour sliders Cam? Well for the first time I just started and finished a project in one 10 hour day. I wanted to build a down-n-dirty bumper to get the project out of my hair before starting the front end. It's got some flaws, but it's done except for paint and a few bolts.
The main flaw. The two ends are bent in 6.2dgr's. When I mounted the tube to the plates, it rotated a couple degrees, so I lost the straightness from the rear view. Had quite a bit of welding done before I caught it, so it is what it is. It's not near as bad as the pictures make it look, because they're not taken on the same plane.

How are you running your exhaust now that you've got the rear shocks mounted on the new upper mount? Do you have room to run a muffler anymore? Or do you just let the exhaust exit under the Bronco? Is it loud?

This is the only photo I've got. I'm running a Flowmaster single chamber 3 in 3 out. It's very small and tucks up nice next to the T-case. It is loud when I'm on the gas, but idles quiet and is very mellow crusing down the road. The end is turned down and is not in line with the shock. It may put a tick more heat to the gas tank, but so far no issues driving it hard in 100dgr temps.

I had heard the single chamber flow-masters were VERY loud. I even had a muffler guy talk me out of one for the RACE truck?? (of course that is headers, dual exhaust, and no cat.).
I assume you have stock exahust manfold and do have a cat. converter? Even so, I'm a little surprised you can get away with a 3 inch single chamber flowmaster! (?).
My new 96 is SO quiet you literally cannot tell if its running. I keep thinking it's stalled at every intersection - SERIOUSLY!!

Mac equal length shorties, 2 1/2" Y pipe, 3" single cat, 3" single chamber. I had a Super 40 on there previously and it was so quiet it irritated me after all of the other exhaust work. This muffler finally woke it up. It is a bit loud for cruising around my little town sometimes, but that's ok. It's still much quieter than drag pipes on a bike and sounds much better IMO.

Alright fellas. It's seems like a long time since I've layed a wrench on the Bronco, but after looking at the transformation over the course of this year I suppose the progress has been good. Soooo, I decided to finish the year off right and get the front end to the next level. I tore myself away from the guitar for a couple of hours today and began tearing things apart. You know, I think I've got AADD, because I would get a bit done and then start staring at it. Ha!!
The Rancho pivot boxes are much healthier than the factory units, so I decided to use them and make the necessary modifications to relocate the pivot points to the factory locations. It shouldn't take much work and will certainly be faster than making some from scratch. Nothing to really show here, but we all like pictures, right?

Modified the Rancho pivot box. I basically just cut off the ears and relocated the hole to the factory position. Increased the bolt size from 9/16 to 5/8. Rancho really did their home work with these things. The box flexes in the right spots to allow minor movement of the crossmember and prevent cracking. The extra support tab is located almost perfectly to center the hole. Good stuff.

Ha!! Some things I just "think".
Worked my butt off today and nothing picture worthy. It took quite a while to cycle the suspension, port the window in the passenger beam, massage the intermediate u joint assembly, install new u-joints & seals, install the centersection, repack the bearings, install the hubs, etc, etc. I feel accomplished, regardless. Tomorrow I'm going to work on lengthening the steering, removing the ABS from the brake system and installing extended lines. If I have time, I'll mount the wheels and begin relocating the bumps. The goal is to have everything prepped to just focus on mounting the shocks next weekend.

Man I want to get this thing on the ground! I got the steering mocked up and the bump position identified. The driver's tie rod will need to be lengthened and I think I'm going to do it like the axle, rather than stretching the clamp. The drag link had plenty of adjustment in it, which is interesting. It was tight between the ends previously, so adjusting it out 1 1/4" was not a problem.
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/700371/fullsize/img_1567.jpg
The body is offcenter 1/2-3/4 of an inch, which makes the track center look off. The passenger side tire sticks out quite a bit.
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/700370/fullsize/img_1564.jpg
This is as far is it will stuff without coil binding the Rancho spring. There's plenty of room to go farther with coilovers.

Getting ready for the 500. We're leaving at 3am Sunday May 31st and prerunning Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. We'll be staying at the luxury resort next to the Mona Lisa. Ha! Rodd Hall is apparently out for this race, so there was space available. Dale is going to trailer the Bronco for me, so that's a little peace of mind. Here's my laundry list of prep/repairs:
Finish repairing the hood
Straighten the frame and fabricate a crossmember for both the skidplate and pivot boxes
Fabricate a mounting system for the spare tire behind the back seat. Seat has to stay in for this race.
Fabricate an adaptor for Dale's motorcycle rack, such that it can be moved out of the way for departure angle while prerunning
Replace the body mounts. I've already got a set of poly mounts that have been sitting in the garage. Should add a little ridgity. Emphasis on little.
Acquire two more new Toyo's and get the new tires mounted up.
Acquire a spare 15x8 Outlaw II
Rebuild and revalve the rear shocks
Replace the burned plug wires and do a tune up. Where's that Lucas at?!
Keep dreaming about having a real Bronco and prepare my mind to take it easy down there.

Yikes that is one bad a$$ bumper. Did you have any cooling issues with those lights blocking airflow into the radiator?
I think anything you do to keep air from going into the engine bay beside the radiator area will help cool. Lots of class 8s don't have fender wells, air comes around fenders, packs up in engine bay doesn't let air flow through radiator as easy..in theory. You want neg pressure in engine bay and positive in front of radiator.

The battery tray support took quite a hit, as shown in the carnage pictures. It's weak due to the thin sheetmetal it's built with, but not by much. I decided to just straighten it out and add a small gusset to spread the load across a greater area. It's still flexible enough to prevent problems elsewhere and should hold up fine, given all of the abuse it took in stock form.

The plastic battery clamp has worked without fail. That amazes me. I'm sure at some point it will let loose, so I fabbed up a strap to help keep the battery in place.

I want some GenII nuts!! The studs are just some off the shelf Dormans. The shoulder length and knurl position match the stock configuration, just different diameters. Sorry, I don't recall the part number. The rear studs are grade 8 socket head cap screws.

UPDATE! Haha! It's been a long time...since I rock and rolled...yeah. Anyway. Time does fly, doesn't it? The last year or so has been quite, um, challenging. Here's where the ol Bronco stands:
Last year at the 500 I got a little carried away. After 4 solid days of prerunning without incident, I hit a boulder 20 miles from Ensenada and broke my steering box. Unfortunately, I later discovered the casualties were much more extensive. I bent both radius arms at the plates, bent the frame, ripped the hood from it's hinges, trashed the cowl, cracked the windshield and cracked the transfer case. Given my situation since, the unsightly Bronco has been a driveway ornament for the past 8 months. Until now!!
The 500 is coming fast again and now I'm hustling to get ready. The team is counting on my rig being there and so it's time to step up. I've purchased some worthy suspension for the front finally. Consistent with the old school suspension set up in the rear, I decided to go ahead and stick with coils and buckets in the front with 3.0x12's to keep the tires in the dirt.
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/783696/fullsize/img_2871.jpg
I started a simple 2d CAD layout to brainstorm how I want to build the shock towers to tie them in with the cage/frame/bumper. Just getting started...obviously. I'm planning to mount the limit straps inside the coils to keep it all clean.
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/788397/fullsize/g-model-(1).jpg
Straightened out the radius arms (plates) and added 1/4" plate to both ears. Relocated the spring pad stud back 2" and inboard 1 1/4, both to compensate for the wider beams and maximize travel with the 12" shocks. May have to play with spring rates a bit, but I think valving should compensate for the added leverage.

For the 500 I'm once again supporting my good friend Dale McCue. They'll be racing pro bike again and hopefully we can get them to the finish this year. Hopefully they learned a few things last year....like don't bring a worn out engine to a desert race and test the race bike before the race. Haha! And for Dale - there's more than one turn in the race! Ha!
Anyway, if you need some support, I'll be free after the bike is in.

The screws have been working their way out of the rings, that's for sure. Gonna have to hit 'em with some Loctite. As far as the HID's, they failed prerunning last year, but I think it was due to where I located the harness. Jury is still out on this one. Hmmm. I'm thinking of converting back to the good ol' originals. I kind of like the light they put off better. Perhaps I'm getting old.

Couple updates. Finally got this thing off the jack stands for the first time in many months. Took me two days to get the shocks assembled thanks to a bad fitting and sourcing Viton o-rings and seals. Nervous about it still, but everything seemed to go together well. Long list of things to do before the Bronco sees the dirt again, but here's a few pictures of the progress:

Not a whole lot. Working out some fuel delivery issues right now. Went to Pismo earlier this year and blew the trans. Now it's got a new Mogi-built E4OD. Took it to Baja a few weeks back. All of my welds held up and it was working well, but then started spitting and sputtering. Haven't found the problem yet, but took it out to the MORE race last week. Was really happy with the latest adjustment on the front shocks. It's taking the big hits well and after some tweaks the tires are drooping out nicely into holes and keeping the front end on top of the whoops. No fancy bumps needed! Here's a few pictures I haven't posted...

Rick hauled the wounded horse from the Pismo sand to Steve's shop. Those two are always such a big help when someone's in need.
EDIT: And I almost got a ticket for driving over the speed limit in reverse at the beach. Haha!

Nice, it must feel great to go play in your Bronco after all that hard work, congratulations.
P.S. You just gave me an idea for the back of the XJ...

You know what? It feels awesome! Still lots of little things to work out, but all in all I'm jazzed! Gave it a good test at Barstow yesterday and got some video to see how it's working. Needs a bit more compression, but it's actually not too far off and seems to love speed.

I kept running through there around 60-62. Could have handled a lot more, but I didn't want to push it. Very fun at that speed.

Thanks Chris. It's come quite a ways since that Barstow race a few years ago. Haha! Slow-n-go. My kids are getting older, so i should have more $$time$$ to finish it up within the next couple years....yeah right.

That's my dream! I want to race the 500 at the very least someday. Even if it gets destroyed the first race. Still a long way to go, but it'll get there. I hope C3 is still around when the day comes.

Cage, seats and a fuel cell. Then a few grand in the small important things. It's going to happen, just not at my preferred pace.
