I understand that a class 1 crashed with one fatality, can anyone confirm this?

My prayers go to the families if it's true.

SCORE has released a statement on the fatality-

BULLETIN 7 p.m. (PDT)

Co-rider in SCORE Desert Race fatally
Injured during race accident Saturday

PRIMM, Nev.--Erick Morales, 33, of Ensenada, Mexico, was fatally injured when the race vehicle he was riding in crashed during the start of Saturday's SCORE Terrible's Primm 300 desert race in Primm, Nev.
Morales was the co-rider in the unlimited Class 1 Chevy-powered HMS open-wheel desert race car driven by Eddy Gonzalez of Chula Vista, Calif.
During the early afternoon start of the second portion of the desert race, which is part of the Los Angeles-based SCORE International desert racing series, the No. 115 race car came down hard in a bumpy section entering the first turn after the start, rolling end over end several times.
SCORE Medical personnel were on the accident immediately and provided CPR for 20 minutes until a trauma physician at the University of Medical Center in Las Vegas pronounced Mr. Morales dead at the scene.
Gonzalez, who complained of lower back pain, was transported to UMC and later released.
"This is an extremely unfortunate incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Morales," said Sal Fish, President of the Los Angeles-based SCORE International desert racing organization.
A total of 182 cars and trucks are competing the Round 5 of the six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series.

I would hate to be the guy behind the wheel of that car. To carry that guilt is unimaginable. My prayers go out to the surviving family members.

My dad watched the wreck. It was a doozy I guess.

Those jumps sucked though. Unlike Laughlin, where they are usually nice jumps, these were kickers just tossing the ass-end up.

Figures, doesn't it? They build an in-field for the spectators... call it a "chunk" of baja... and where does the wreck occur?

in the other 280 miles, with hundreds of cars, nobody gets hurt. That infield was just asking for trouble. We cruised through... no thanks on the endo thing.

very very sad.

I've been thinking about this since it happened...
Might of SCORES attempts at some exciting Spectator action been too much?

I Pre-Ran this Course with Ken & I remember stopping to BS with Raffo & it seemed that we all agreed the start seemed like a SuperCross motorcycle course more than a Truck course?

Ok I can see the argument that nobody else died.
But still why did the spectator area need to be so gnarly

I would'nt be surprised to hear the the guys in the buggy did not Pre-run the course. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/m2c.gif
