View Full Version : MORE rules?

After learing that the Baja 1000 will cost us each $3425.00 to race I think I've decided I cant afford to race SCORE.
So I'm thinking about just building my Cage to MORE/MDR rules....
Does anyone here know the rules for them?
I doubt they've gone with the 2" cage rule & such..
So I should be good to go.
A few more bars & I'm ready to go. :D
Besides, The MORE/MDR course's are only a 2 to 2.1/2 hour from me so its also more convienent for me.

i knew that it was going to be pricey, but not that pricey. i had guessed $2000.
MDR does not have a rule book on safety specs. they actually follow score rules. they do not practice this much though. there are no yearly inspections nor tags to get. in short, show up with your entry money and run what you brung - couse anything goes at MDR and MORE.
it is sad to see that Score is slowly becoming the "rich" mans sport. more than 1/2 of the Primm entries where all high dollar teams. and by this i mean teams that have high budgets and programs.
so much for the "grass roots racer", huh Sal Fish?

Actually we had 7 Class 3's. :D
& that not big money teams..
But thats just silly the money their asking now.
I completely understand why Anger Issues wants to protest Laughlin.
I was looking forward to racing with all of you in a SCORE race being thats what most of you run.
But, I have to be honest with myself, I cant afford to.. :o
So I wanna finish my Bronco within the MORE/MDR rules even if it keeps out of SCORE. http://thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/shrug.gif
What about BITD? are they following the SCORE 2" cage rule or can I still run my 1.75 cage?
To be honest now that I've decided to not race SCORE I'm getting all excited again. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/ewg.gif

keep in mind...................
what makes a score legal car from all the others??????
only the weight and cage specs.
MDR, BITD, MORE, SNORE, CODE, etc, etc, etc all still require the same safety specs. all score regulates that the others dont is yearly cage inspection. so what is my point???
if you are going to build a race car today - what is stoping you from building it out of 2" and being score legal?? the price? yea right, 1.75" and 2" chromo are less than $0.75 per foot difference. and since its only the "main cage", we are talkin about 60' max. that is a total of $45 difference. BIG DEAL! and yes, you can build your car out of DOM and mig weld it, even cheaper if you are cheap. this does not affect any of the rest of your car build - same parts required at the same price. race MORE or race Score, except for the entry fee, you still needed everything that Score would require. so it still costs the same to build a car for More or for Score, just more expensive to run Score.
So.........3 years from now, you are still racing MORE. Score decides to follow a new format to attract smaller classes again and now have a reduced entry fee (wishful thinking, but stay with me here). all of us show up, except for the guy(s) who thought that saving less than $50 would get him started in racing with a different sanction. not only that, how much more is your truck worth when it comes time to sell if it has been taged by Score??
here is the other scenario.............
i build my truck. baja 1000 is here. i cant afford it either, but hey - this race is 1300 miles. that means at least 3 drivers, maybe 4. $3500 divided by four comes out to $875 per driver. easy money for something this big. cant afford a full chase team? run your BFG tires and get on thier program - now you only need 2 trucks for the entire distance, one with trailer, one for recovery. gas? do what we all do and smuggle it. run a pump gas engine. stop at a Pemex (i have personally done this one!).
i will be one of the first to tell you that this is EXPENSIVE!!!! but only if you have no money and plan to pay for it all yourself. thats what friends are for, other drivers, sponsors, etc, etc, etc. and remember, you dont need a $40,000 sponsor. a couple of small ones ad up real fast!

BITD does not follow SCORE rules for cage safety. One Bronco entered in our class at the V2R this year had absolutely no diagonals in the cage but raced anyway. I wouldnt ride in it, and dont like the idea of racing and trading paint with others that dont have decent safety concerns.

Roach!
Pay more attention before jumping on me.
I've had a cage in my bronco for a couple of years now & dont want to tear it out & start over again.
The facts are that I've heard from many that MORE/MDR & BITD dont really have Cage rules & so I'm already that much ahead of the bunch. :)
I plan on door bars & maybe an X bar behind the seats & a few other bars here & there.
But the more I think about it, I need to be realistic here & think about a budget & SCORE is out of my ball park. :(

Does anyone know what the Baja 250 entry fees were?
CP
PRO RACE FEES
(4-Wheel Vehicles):
Entry Fee (50% Payback) $800.00
Insurance Fee $450.00
Land Use Fee $75.00
SCORE Points Fund $50.00
Radio Fee $25.00
SCORE Membership Fee $75.00
This is from the SCORE website, so you have:
800
450
75
50
25
--------
1,400 total
I have assumed you already have a membership, as anyone will have to that rides or drives in the race truck. Also, be aware that only 50% (400) of your individual "Entry Fee" goes towards payback (award), the rest is all just gone. There is also the annual $250 "inspection fee", and the tracking device rental that works out to about $100 per race to factor in. But I still scrape it together when I can because there are very limited places you can still do this in the world!

Now to get back on topic.
MORE rules.
I spoke to James Clements over at more via e-mail & he says as long as it has a SCORE tag its good.
& then I asked him about the 2" cage rule & he said as long as its raced before it would be grandfathered in..
I did'nt bother to tell him That I've never raced it. :o
I just kinda let it go at that point.
