Hi, I am new to the forum..., my name is Florencio Gamallo, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, but currently living in Germany.
I enjoyed immensely all the comments and references to Class 3 racing vehicles from many years ago. While being a teenager, at the end of the ´70s, I used to received at home Four Wheeler Magazine, Off Road Magazine, and some other related stuff, and was specially interested in Class 3 ( I already owned a CJ5 at that time...)
Also, perhaps you could tell me something else about the vehicle of the attached pic..., I remember having read some article at the magazines, many years ago, but could not locate any extra info in the Web. As far as I can remember, it was based on a M151 frame, with a rear-mounted V8 engine, and independent suspension all-around. Even when the number in the pic does not belong to Class 3, I remember it as racing against Jeeps. Being a short wheelbase 4WD car, that could have been possible...
OK, thanks for the nice forum, and many greetings from Northern Germany ( also, for the mexican members, por aquí también se habla español...)

WELCOME to C3R! :)
Thats an interesting Jeep in that Pic.
I've never seen it before.
& its cool to learn that they do speak spanish there in Germany as well.
Is there much of a latino population there?
& personally I feel so Proud to have Members here all the way from Germany! :D

Hi, thanks for the warm welcome...
No, there is no much spanish-speaking people here, in northern Germany. I found the forum just by chance, while looking for old pics of off-road racing vehicles in Internet ( there are not many, should I said ). Also, while surfing somewhere in the Web, I read that Mike Schwellinger passed away some time ago. Sad news, as he drove one of the most impressive Jeeps I can remember in Class 3 ( the other one was the one from Don Adams...).
About the car in my previous photo, it took part in some races, including the Baja, around 1977 / 78. As far as I can remember, it had a Ford 289 engine, and the driver´s name was Glenn Emery.
Also, another impressive vehicle I can remember from that era ( sorry, again not a Class 3 ), was the Chevy LUV built by Michkey Thompson, with an aluminium-block V8 rear-mounted on the bed. What a time...

Greetings to everybody...

Welcome Florencio! Yes, you are correct - that is Glenn Emery's Jeep and it was configured about how you describe it. I too have that article at home in a magazine somewhere. Glenn was still racing that Jeep when I first started attending races (1987) and I do remember it - it didn't flex much and it was slow!

Hi, Todd Z, thanks for your answer, too...
Probably, this car was already too slow in 1987, but ,when it started racing, ten years before, it was racing against "normal" Jeeps, with solid axles and leaf springs, and it won several times... Ten years are too much for any race vehicle...
It could be nice to know if it still somewhere, kept in good hands, and that it was not destroyed, dismantled or abandoned.
If you could find your magazine, could it be possible to get a scanned copy of the article ? I really would like that..
Thanks and greetings

Forenciio:
If I find it, I'l certainly scan and make you a copy. I looked through a bunch of magazines earlier this year for another project I was working on and remember seeing it. It, unfortunately, will have to wait until I get a chance to go out and dig through them for something else.

I believe this one had a Ford 289 in back. I had been in touch with Glen's nephew a couple of years ago. I"ll see if I can find out what happened to the Jeep. I loved this thing. Also Steve Mizel's Class 4 Bronco was pretty cool. They contributed to sucking me into the sport.
