I know we already had an axle thread but.....All I can find are super $$$$. Just wondering what/who you guys would recomend for axles? I'm looking for a 9" rear and have called numerous places. Almost all of the full floaters have been around 6-7000. Do i really need a full floater? I was hoping to keep the price down to half that. Anyone know of a reasonable race ready 9" out there? Thanks for the help.

Not sure of where to get cheaper ones, but going FULL FLOATERS is definately a VERY wise place to spend some extra money. It will cost you more now, but you will be money ahead (and miles on the course) by going full over semi.....specially if you are going to race this thing......not to mention the ease of inspection and/or replacement and much less down time if you do have to change one. You don't even have to pull the wheel off!

This is a bit less but we havent tried their stuff. Everybody uses the same size bearings and stuff so just take a look at how things are built and make up your own mind. You can build your own with a Stock Car Products or Speedway housing and make your own bracing. I think most of the companies will build them with whatever material tubes you want. Like 1/4" 4130 etc..

Hey Cam,
Does Currie offer a full floater axle?
YES!
But at the time I was thinking to my self, WHOA! I'm already spending way too much cash on this rear end. :o
At that Time I had no thought of racing....& to be honest I still think I should bow out because I just cant afford it.:(
But Currie can build you anything you ask for as long as you have the coin.
I almost went with a full on trick housing & full floater Etc etc....
But after the bill got past that point I just had to say WHOA! let me think about this a bit.
& thats when I figured I'm not likely to bust a 35 spline.
But if that day comes I'll be pissed that I did'nt pay the difference.
Yes a Full floater is a much easier swap & you wont lose your tire, but......
If you do snap an axle, yeah you can pull the shaft out without have to remove the tire. but, you're still gonn have to fish out the short broken parts out of the housing. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/m2c.gif

Carry a powerful magnet and you're good. Moss' link is excellent. That looks to be worth a try for the price......just threw another quarter in the piggy bank. :D

Man, when did those guys start making off road rearends? They have previously only offered street and track applications. Way cool, I've added them to my favorites list, I'll definitly be calling them when the time comes.:D

Thanks for the link. I just got off the phone with these guys. They were very nice. They said that they will make it custom and would take maybe a week or two. The prices for the 35 and 40 spline was for a 3" tubing but for an extra 200 can make it 3.5 or 4" tubing. Truss + 175. Gear and Spool about 1000 extra. Axles are 300M. The price was for a nodular housing. I'm not sure what that means. I know that most of the other companies are making them out of Chromoly, which could be the big price difference. But they can make it out of anything. He mentioned and alluminum housing?? Any opinions on the nodular housing or what I need to look to have it made out of. Overall, about 4000 for a complete axle. Thats more like it. Would a high pinion allow for more wheel travel / lower drive shaft angles? Thanks again.

I think you misunderstood each other on the material issue. A nodular housing is probably refering to the center gear carrier which is cast iron. These can be had in Aluminum but dont hold up as well. The other fabricated parts will be steel but you will have to talk to him again to nail down what alloy. Dont forget to ask about shipping that beast from WI that probably isnt insignificant. I would imagine for another grand he would weld on a giant laser cut logo so you could fit in with the So Cal crowd!

Hey Moss,
Is that another Nor Cal vs. So Cal thing?

Hey Moss,

No, just a pet peeve thing that seems to run rampant in the So Cal off road fabrication market. I dont believe in paying more to advertise for them. How much would they charge you to buy that little laser cut part and 15" of welding to install if it was a functional piece. 200? $300?..

Good point Moss.
I live in LA but I work in the Bay Area and I've never heard of the Nor Cal vs. So Cal battle that goes on until I started spending more time up there.
I guess now I know were the sane comes from "There is a battle between Nor Cal and So Cal but only Nor Cal knows about it" LOL.
