:mad: I wont translate the whole thing.... just the part where it says: Because of the lack of support from the city officials, all of the activities planned to be held in Tijuana to celebrate the 40 anniversary of the B1K where canceled, as interim mayor (at least for to more months) Kurt Honold claims there is no more budget for this kind of events, the one day program planned together with former mayor and loosing Governor candidate Jorge Hank, included The Tijuana Leap Challenge, free style motocross exhibition, pit crew challenge and the Baja 1000 legends parade (well, apparently Score will make this one happen even after they backout, because drivers and cars where already contacted).
This comes from Oscar Ramos, Scores mexican liaison.

All I can say is....
SORE LOSERS SUCK!!!

I personally think its OK. I don't hang out in Tijuana anyway. Some of the stories posted on RDC in the last few weeks reafirm may desire to just get through as fast as a I can. The Policia in TJ scare the hell out of me.

I agree, spend as little time in TJ as possible. Nothing but trouble there.

Hey Chupas.. and Fj, I'm not down on you or your city its the crooked cops and other low lifes that prey on people just like me that I want to avoid. I remember going to Tijuana when I was a little kid with my parents and we had a good time but I would not take my family to TJ today. I wish there was something we could do to end the coruption.

just teasing... but your Right, its out of control in some places that we locals now avoid.
I´ve read some of the story's and most seem to happen in the toll road from Playas de Tijuana to Rosarito, at night its quite deserted, same goes to the international avenue that goes from the San Isidro border to Playas and connects to the toll road, can gladly post a map to skip this part and go directly to Rosarito, were you can join the toll road in the sections that is more transited.

fj40, would any time be saved or would it be safer to take hwy 3 through guadalupe into enenada?

Save time only if you were coming from El Centro/Calexico area, coming from Whittier you would have to go to the Tecate border crossing (no freeway close by), highway 3 is quite safe do, pases true a couple of towns, some winding downhills, there is a military checkpoint just passing Valle de Guadalupe.
I would recommend it only if you have time to spare, its a 2 line highway with lots of slow traffic.

Ok, here it goes....

Follow the signs to PASEO DE LOS HEROES, ZONA RIO

http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z249/tioernesto_2007/border2.jpg
If you miss right turn at bank go to next traffic circle, both streets will merge about 500 yards ahead.....

http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z249/tioernesto_2007/border3.jpg
You will see the toll road coming from the west..... er, your right, the ocean.

So what your saying is we should stay on the lower road that runs along side the fwy on the way down to Ensenada?
South bound its on the right.

& if thats what your saying it seems more dangerous than staying on the faster higher road?

Sure theres lots of shops & such but I also see where they might hang just waiting to nab some Gringos? http://thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/shrug.gif

I've always taken that tight right handed turn that you say not too. I think,
Where's the TJ arch?

& personally I ( so far ) have never had any issues.

fj40 is correct,. you only bypass the danger zone, or where the hijacks and stuff that you heard have happend,,. that is in the way to PLAYAS DE TIJUANA, if you turn right u will take the road to playas de tijuana and then you take the toll road to ensenada, that the regular route that every gringo follows, if you take fj40 route, u will bypass the road to playas de tj and then u will merge at the toll road to ensenada , just arriving at rosarito....

Hey FJ, is that the area in which the Chief of Police was gunned down by a cartel? I read about that a couple of years ago.

I take that route all the time (knock on wood), I've never had any issues but I'm as black as Wesley Snipes so my Durango (Mex, not Colorado) roots definitely show. :)

At the Baja 1000 in 2006 I was reading the local newspaper and there was a big article about all the corruption in the police departments around Rosarito and Playas De TJ. What a bummer, it's such a beautiful place but American's definitely get scared off from heading South from these stories.

1* Nope, close but not that area.
2* Yes, that my point on not sending you that way, especially at night.

If you have drive that part of the toll road, perhaps you noticed that theres only a hand full of access, most of them to private hou$ing for retired gringo$ and top end resort$, as i told you before, this section of about 12 miles is somewhat deserted in the evening and at night, if you are car jacked in this place, by the time the Policia Federal (by the way, they are the only ones that can stop you once your driving down the toll highway) gets there to help and report the robbery, your vehicle will be long gone via one of the many dirt roads that can be reached on many of the few access to the highway (don´t ask me why those dirt roads connect to a toll road). the point here is how do they "get away safely" whit your vehicle, they won´t do it in the corners of downtown Tj or Rio Zone, because they surly run into heavy traffic that could slow them down.
Manny of the stories you have read are true, but there are no daylight random gringo swapping in Tj´s streets and public roads, most of them occur in the places and circumstances described above.

I will look at the maps later, and maybe print them out. Thanks for this... as I personally have had at least 3 incidents there, the last one being the most expensive. Like I said in an earlier thread...the price of poker has gone up in TJ... this cop "negotiated" with us, insisted many times we had to follow him to the police station, blah blah blah. When it was all over, he took no less than 100 bucks, looked around carefully, and stuffed it in his pocket. In the past, 20 or 40 used to get you out of some made-up "trouble". I would avoid TJ at all costs, if I could. I hate the town (sorry), but I never spend a damn dime there, all thanks to the crooked cops. i don't mean to offend, but the truth hurts!!
