truck in the second photo has 8 lugs and Leafs(not quite sure of what I'm seeing) maybe its just the outlaw II look a like rims thats throwing me off....
What class is that? formula 4x4??
I really don't know what class. I think it is just an SUV class. The Jeep had a Dana 70 rear 60 front. Coils front and rear. Chevy small block. I kinda was wondering about the class rules on that one. They must be pretty laxed?

Yes race fans, it's Formula 4x4. The class I started in 99' It equalizes most suv 4x4s. No particular mfg advantage. Everybody gets the same wheel base, width, travel, and travel limits. It's what we should be doing in class 3.
It sure looked like a class I could get into! Maybe part out the race ranger and build a EB for next years race???

Is "Formula 4x4" a trademarked name? That is very close to what I am trying to put together in Colorado. Any idea where I can get more info?
By the way I have another short course race on Aug30 out at Deertrail, CO. If any of you guys are in the area, come by and show us up!

I did a search and found other Formula 4x4 references, so I doubt that Crandon has any real claim to the name.

I found some info on the TORC website but it does not look like the full class rules. http://www.torcseries.com/specs_grass_form4x4.php
I think I will include the formula 4x4 class in xscorr with a few mods like tire size. I don't see how a bigger tire would be a competitive advantage.

At the time, not all the tire suppliers had 35"s, iwas looking for a way to get contingency money posted from as many suppliers as possible.

What are the limits on engine and suspension? I know it said "stock concept" but does that mean moving pivot points is okay?

suspension stock type equates to ibeam/ solid axle/a-arm max of one 3" shock wheel travel limit 14" no coil overs
year and modle and motor stay the same . must run 4x4 at any time. max travil 15". and at 4000# 2"tubing no less.

Not really. in formula 4x4 the tubing size needed is 1.75 no matter the weight. You can run a Chevy in a Ford or any engine body combo but two of these items must remain from the same manufacturer.
Body. Engine. Chassis
So you could have a Jeep Wrangler frame with a Cherokee body and a ford engine. just as long as two of the items come from the same manufacturer it is cool.
I think the suspension concept goes along with the chassis you use, similar to class 3.
I have the rules in some old emails. If you are legal in class 3 you will be legal in formula4x4. Entry fees are $200 for the 2 races per weekend. If you can swing it, get your class 3 to Crandon for labor day weekend.

The 15" travel rule goes back two generations of rules in SCORE. This limit doesn't currently apply.

So if coilovers are supposed to be the most cost effective least maintenance option out there why would they not be allowed here? I guess if you only get to race a couple hundred miles max a year leafs dont wear out too fast?

Compromise is why. The Tough Truck guys were the main reason. Although they thought it was ok to do linked suspensions and replace leafs with coils, they thought it was too much to allow coil-overs. I need ten cars to make a class at Crandon, so in spite of the fact that I am a strong supporter of them, I would rather race than talk about it.
