We decided not to run the 1000 because we didnt want to break tradition in class 3 and not see Moss as the Champion.... So we are going to let him win it all.

I'm SOOOOOOO kidding. We will be there too.

We are going... trying to get in touch wirh Raffo now.. but also got looped into the PCI/Sykes team that I think is up to 4 trophy trucks... a class 12, (including Cam Steele - the OTHER famous Cam).

We are going to be managing (as I understand it)... a mostly "visual" checkpoint at mile 870.

To BajaOJ... at this point, it's looking like we need a fourth person. Prefer someone FUN who isn't afraid of sleeping in a tent... ideally someone who can leave on the 7th, 8th, or 9th (up in the air).... and take turns pre-running (in the race truck) and being in support rig other times.

AT THE VERY LEAST... I NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN COMMIT TO RIDING BACK WITH ME FROM MILE 870 AFTER THE RACE (my pop is going on to cabo and then mazatlan, so I need a passenger for the ride back, but prefer for the whole tip. Great chance to get in the RACE truck people for pre-running... if you aren't afraid of stinky guys, beer, and tents!!).

We are not racing, but good luck having more fun!!

Hello all,
Blanco helped me get set up on this forum. Thanks!

I've been asked to spread this word to the off-road race community.

It's that time again. The Baja 1000 is a great adventure, but a dangerous adventure. Those tucked in the safety of a perfectly good race car are in less danger than anybody. It's the chasers who are most at risk. So, I hope you take a moment to give this a read.

All it has to do is make a difference for one...

Very good to see you on here, Bob. Your letter goes into each of our pit and chase packages, and is the first subject discussed at each of our pre-race meetings. Even with our small team, we have around 20 people involved to make it happen. Our first priority is to bring everyone back safely. Thank you again for putting that together.

BobBower

Thanks Don,
It's interesting to think about "20 people". I'll bet that is a very typical number for most teams. Probably means about 6 or 8 vehicles, not counting the race car. Sure, some teams will have less, and we both know that several teams will have a lot more.

SCORE says they are expecting 400 entries. If they fall short and get only 350 entries, the numbers still get big pretty quickly. At 20 people and 8 vehicles per, that means 2,800 vehicles involved with 7,000 people inside them. Figure that about half of those vehicles leave early and the other half trail along on the highway at the pace of the race car or leapfrog ahead.

So that means only about 1,400 vehicles out there competing for their space on that single lane going south. Class 3 will be lucky to start by 1:00 PM I figure. It will get dark about 5:45 PM.

So what do you think Don? Think there might be some of those people who had a short nights sleep. Think there might be many who were able to sleep through the noise of motorcycle teams that fire up and get to the start line just at dawn?? Think that by the time the race car gets to the Highway run south from Guayaquil, the adrenaline of the start might be wearing off and the 10 or 11 hours of race will find some of those 20 people getting tuckered out?

I'm thinking the answer is Yep.

I guess I worry less about the 20 attached to your team because you are the class champions, and clearly deep on experience. But I do worry about the less experienced people who are just ahead or behind in that single lane southbound.

Okay... enough preaching. Good luck you guys. I'll see you down there.

To the chase teams, you can add all the spectators following the race, most of them will be drinking alcoholic beverages, and feeling the adrenalin and exitement, they post a great danger to themselves and others, BIG factor ...

so, if I may add, take it easy, be smart, don't be a hero.

Oh, and Welcome to C3R!!

I see Donahoe Racing has listed Mr. Bower as co-pilot of the FJ up until Catavina. This should increase the chances of Class 3 getting some press this race. Good stuff!

After spending the last couple of seasons in the Donahoe Super Duty I got used to having plenty of room in the cockpit. You know, places to stash stuff and zip tie things. That's not quite the case with the FJ. It does, however, have a dandy little glove compartment that acutally closes.

I'm looking forward to some miles in the Mastercraft 3G seats. The Super Duty does not have those. I'm told they are terrific for comfort. I'm also told the suspension is much more cush than the Super Duty. I must be loosing my memory because I thought the F-250 was pretty gentle. Well... most of the time.

Heck! How rough could the FJ be? Most of my Class 3 seat time was with Don Adams in his CJ7 and Mike Randall in the Coffinger CJ7.

I'm looking forward to the FJ. I wouldn't want people to think I was a ride junky, but I'll stay in it as long as I'm allowed. I'm going to Cabo. So is my Bronco. Either seat is a good seat as far as I'm concered.

I will be near El Arco pitting with a group from ADV Riders teamed up with Cam Steele and the DA guys, or now the JSMDA guys. Look for the DA signs as we are offering assistance to anyone who needs it. It will be my first Baja race, but not my first offroad race. I also have an extra seat in my Blazer for anyone in AZ that wants to ride down with me and pit with us.

Nov. 11-16 in Mexico

40th anniversary of Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 to include

Nearly 450 entries from 41 U.S. States and 15 Countries

Internationally-televised Granddaddy of all desert races

1,296.39-mile adventure down Mexico ’s Baja California peninsula

LOS ANGELES—From Alaska to Florida and Maine to Hawaii in the U.S, and from Canada to Japan , adventuresome racers from around the world will be part of the massive starting grid for next month’s 40th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race, the granddaddy of all desert races.

To be held Nov. 11-16, this year’s historic 40th anniversary odyssey of the world’s longest non-stop and most famous desert race will be a grueling and memorable 1,296-39 mile adventure down Mexico ’s mysterious Baja California peninsula starting in Ensenada , Baja California and finishing in Cabo San Lucas , Baja California , Sur.

The season-finale of the six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series will feature nearly 450 entries from 41 U.S. States and 15 countries. From weekend warriors to Hollywood actors and producers, the famous and not-so-famous will compete in 28 Pro and 6 Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs. Among the entries are 22 class winners from last year’s race.

While all the rugged regulars in the world’s foremost desert racing series will be in Mexico , the lure of this amazing race also attracts crossover racers as well as adventurers from all walks of life.

The talented field of desert-racing veterans includes 134 racers who have combined for 343 class wins in this race. In that group are 11 racers who have combined for a total of 20 overall 4-wheel vehicle wins and 12 more riders have combined for 26 overall motorcycle victories.

“SCORE is on the brink of another historic desert racing milestone and we are awed and humbled by the unbelievable field for this year’s 40th anniversary of the legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 1000,” said Sal Fish, SCORE CEO and President since soon after the Los Angeles-based SCORE International was founded in 1973. “The stage has clearly been set for another star-studded, record-breaking memorable event in the storied history of this magnificent motorsports spectacle. We can’t wait for the green flag to drop. It will be like watching 40 Super Bowls all at once.”

The motorcycle and ATV classes will start their journey at 6:30 a.m. (PST) (Tuesday, Nov. 13) with the car and truck classes starting at approximately 11 a.m. (PST), or three hours after the last ATV leaves the line. The starting line will be on Blvd. Costero in front of the Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center in Ensenada . Vehicles will leave in 30-second intervals in the elapsed-time race and while the fastest finishers are expected to complete the course in approximately 23 hours.

The finish line area in Cabo San Lucas will be inside the Campos de Futbol “Yenecamu” soccer fields next to the Villa del Palmar Resort, the official SCORE race headquarters. The SCORE Media Center and SCORE Race Operations will both be located at the adjacent Villa del Palmar. Passing times from all BFGoodrich Tires pit locations, of all vehicles, will be posted there as well to assist in monitoring the race progress.

With massive crowds reaching over 300,000 anticipated to again be spread out along the point-to-point course, the race will start for the 33rd time in Ensenada and will finish for only the second time in Cabo San Lucas.

NASCAR Nextel Cup team owner/driver Robby Gordon, Charlotte , N.C. , whose roots are in SCORE desert racing, returns as defending overall 4-wheel winner in the Team Gordon No. 71 Chevy CK1500 in SCORE Trophy-Truck. Gordon will pull double-duty, driving the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 before flying to Homestead , Fla. , to race in the NASCAR Nextel Cup season finale.

Also returning to their racing roots are NASCAR Truck Series regular Brendan Gaughan, Las Vegas , and NASCAR Grand National West Series regular Brian Ickler, Poway , Calif.

Among the other cross-over racers who are entered to date include World Rally champion Armin Schwarz of Germany, NASCAR Nextel Cup racer Boris Said, 2007 Dakar Rally overall motorcycle champion Cyril Despres of France, former IndyCar star Danny Sullivan, former NASCAR and open-wheel racer turned TV commentator Wally Dallenbach, actor/racer Patrick Dempsey, star of the ABC TV hit show ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, former IndyCar racer Scott Atchison, Supercross motorcycle legends Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Johnson, Freestyle Motorcross superstar Mike Metzger, father and son Pike’s Peak Hill Climb champions Rod and Rhys Millen (who is also a Drifting point champ) along with fellow PPHC champion Gay Smith, former Sprint Car turned stock car racer Erin Crocker, Indy Pro Series team owner/driver Ken Losch, Rock Crawling star Tracy Jordan, Snowmobile racers Paul Thacker and Chris Burandt, Snowboarder Luke Trembath, Rally racers Ken Block and Tanner Faust, TV show creator/producer Bud Brutsman, and BMX racer/TV personality Dave Mirra.

In his first full season in the SCORE Desert Series, TV personality Jesse James, of Monster Garage fame, will drive his new No. 54 Chevy Silverado SCORE Trophy-Truck.

Among the other very notable entries are Rod Hall, Reno , Nev. , and Ron Bishop, Escondido , the only two individuals who have raced in all 39 previous Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 races.

The legendary Hall, of Reno , Nev. , who will turn 70 on Nov. 22, has a race-record 18 career class wins in this race (including the 1969 overall 4-wheel vehicle title) and is the only driver to have competed every year in a car or truck class. Hall returns this year as the defending season point champion in a Hummer H3 in the Stock Mini class. His son’s Chad and Josh will complete the Team Hummer entry, each driving different Hummers in the Stock Full Class.

Bishop, 64, who will lead a five-rider team as rider of record this year in Class 22, is the only racer who has competed every year on a motorcycle. He will be racing on a KTM 525XC motorcycle.

Garron Cadiente in SCORE Trophy-Truck and Richard Lancaster in Class 22 for open motorcycles drew the pole positions for the 40th anniversary of the desert racing classic at a ‘live’ drawing for starting positions at the Lake Elsinore (Calif.) Casino on Sept. 22.

Cadiente, 31, of Mesa , Ariz. , was the 2006 SCORE Rookie of the year and is third in this year’s SCORE Trophy-Truck season point standings after winning September’s SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 in the No. 38 G&R Racing Ford F-150. There are 31 entries so far in the SCORE Trophy-Truck, the marquee SCORE racing division for 800-horsepower, high-tech, unlimited production trucks.

Lancaster , 29, Santa Margarita , Calif. , will lead 24 entries (to date) in Class 22 for open motorcycles on the No. 2x Honda XR650R. His additional riders are Peter Hardy, Pozo , Calif. , John Kaisersatt, Los Osos , Calif. , Fred Jowett, Atascadero , Calif. , and Chris Whalley, Topanga , Calif.

Drawing the first start in the ATV classes was the championship team led by Danny Prather, 27, Ramona , Calif. , who will ride the No. 1a Honda TRX450R in Class 25. His teammates are Mike Cafro, Bonsall , Calif. , Levi Marana, Ramona , Calif. , and Marc Speath, Warner Springs , Calif.

Among the other racers entered with significant class wins in the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 are: Larry Roeseler, Hesperia , Calif. , Class 1 (15), Chris Haines, Dana Point, Calif. Class 50 (12), Haines’ teammate Jack Johnson, Boulder City, Calif. Class 50 (11), Johnny Campbell, San Clemente, Calif., Class 22 (9), Eric Solorzano, Tijuana, Mexico, Class 11 (9), Mark McMillin, Chula Vista, Calif., Class 1 (8), Malcolm Smith, Riverside, Calif., Stock Full (8), Steve Hengeveld, Oak Hills, Calif., Class 22 (7, five straight motorcycle overalls), and Ted Hunnicutt Jr., Temecula, Calif., SCORE Trophy-Truck (7).

In what has shaped up as a movie-script duel between the ‘veterans’ Mark Post and Rob MacCachren and young gun B.J. Baldwin, the showdown in Mexico will decide the overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck point championships of the 2007 SCORE Desert Series. With a single point separating the top two SCORE Trophy-Truck teams of 2007 an epic showdown is expected.

After five of six events in the 2007 SCORE Desert Series, Post, 50, of San Juan Capistrano , Calif. ,

and MacCachren, 42, of Las Vegas , have two wins, one second and two fourths to compile 359 points to date in the No. 3 Riviera Racing Ford-F-150 SCORE Trophy-Truck.

Baldwin, 28, of Las Vegas , is the reigning SCORE Trophy-Truck season point champion in the No. 1 Baldwin Motorsports Chevy Silverado. Just one point behind Post/MacCachren, Baldwin has one race win this year, one second, two thirds and one fourth to remain in position to become the first back-to-back SCORE Trophy-Truck point champion since Ed and Tim Herbst of Las Vegas did it in 1999 and 2000 and again in 2002 and 2003.

A total of just 33 points separate the top 10 overall point leaders after September’s 12th SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300.

Third in SCORE Trophy-Truck points and third overall is Garron Cadiente with 338 points after his SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 victory.

Leading Class 1-2/1600 and fourth overall with 334 points is Dave Caspino, Woodland Hills , Calif. , in a VW-powered Lothringer open-wheel desert race car.

Tied for fifth overall with 332 points each are the team of Larry Ragland, Cave Creek , Ariz. /Brian Collins, Las Vegas and brothers Bill Gasper, Chino Hills , Calif. /Bill Gasper, Santa Barbara , Calif. . Ragland/Collins are fourth in SCORE Trophy-Truck points in the No. 12 Collins Motorsports Chevy Silverado while the Gaspers lead the unlimited Class 1 in their Porter-Chevy.

SCORE points are determined both on final finishing position and number of vehicles that started the race within the individual class.

Seventh overall and second in Class 1-2/1600 with 331 points is the team of L.J. Kennedy, Orange, Calif./Sammy Ehrenberg, Las Vegas in a ChenoSPF-VW.

In a three-way tie for eighth overall and tied for second in Class 1 with 316 points heading to Mexico ’s massive season finale are Larry Roeseler/Troy Herbst, Ronny Wilson and Eric Chase and his father Stuart Chase. Roeseler/Herbst, who have two race wins this year and have won Class 1 for three straight years at the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, drive the No. 100 Smithbuilt-Ford, Wilson drives a Jimco-Chevy while the Chases pilot a Penhall-Chevy.

What about a list of channels you class 3 racers will be using. Some of us chasers can listen in and if you get in a jam and there is someone near by, maybe we can lend a hand. What do you think?

wanna cry, we not even know if we are gonna be able to see the race, to be there, not even as an espectator, :( , our friend fj40 will be racing in a class 8 stock, i have a lot of job to be done those days, i'll be happy if at least be able to attend the contingency, or see the start of the race at ensenada, ..

....well, last weekend we went for some test on our chupakabras, first time with an automatic tranny, oh man, what we were thinking with the manual tranny, this auto tranny is awsome, the way it shifts, how fast you upshift and downshift :eek: i dream of that, but couldnt imagine, so, i'm in love with that thing, haha, no kidding, its great how it works, when we were back to home i was driving in the city, i was doing a light stop, and a grand cherokke want it to have a litte drag race against our chups, kind of a 1/4 mile, haha, i step on it as soon as the green light went on, the tires were screeming haha, not to mention when i shift to 2nd gear , oh man, i love it, he never catch up on our chups, haha, it was fun, ..

also our oil cooler worked awsome, with the fan off the oil temp went up very quick to a 190 after few minutes, with the fan on it drooped the temp to a 150 degrees, never went more than that with the fan on, ..

well that's the news about us.:D:eek::(

Part of every race

Racers Rod Hall and Ron Bishop; Ensenada’s Nico Saad

Named Grand Marshals for 40th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000

Internationally-televised 1,296.39-mile Nov. 11-16 adventure down Mexico ’s Baja California peninsula

LOS ANGELES—Veteran desert racers Rod Hall and Ron Bishop along with local Mexican businessman Nico Saad have been named as Grand Marshals for the upcoming 40th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, the granddaddy of all desert races.

To be held Nov. 11-16, this year’s historic 40th anniversary odyssey of the world’s longest non-stop and most famous desert race will be a grueling and memorable 1,296-39 mile adventure down Mexico ’s Baja California peninsula starting in Ensenada , Baja California and finishing in Cabo San Lucas , Baja California , Sur.

Hall and Bishop are the only two individuals who have raced in all previous 39 events and Saad has been active in working with the government and tourism officials since the race began in 1967.

The season-finale of the six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series will feature nearly 450 entries from 43 U.S. States and 16 countries. From weekend warriors to Hollywood actors and producers, the famous and not-so-famous will compete in 28 Pro and 6 Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs.

“What a natural to be able to select Rod Hall, Ron Bishop and Nico Saadas the Grand Marshals for the 40th anniversary of this amazing race,” said Sal Fish, SCORE President and CEO since soon after the Los Angeles-based racing organization was founded in 1973. “No one, including even me, has been part of this event for every year except these three great ambassadors of the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Their passion for our sport and this race is as great as mine and I know they will enjoy this accolade as much as we enjoy bestowing it on them. There have been many, many people over the years who have been intensely involved with this race, but none of been part of it for four decades except these three exceptional gentlemen.”

Hall, Reno , Nev. , will celebrate his 70th birthday in Cabo San Lucas on Nov. 22 and he is the only individual who has raced in a car or a truck in every race. On the other hand Bishop, 64 of Escondido , Calif. , is the only individual who has raced on a motorcycle every year.

Saad has been extremely involved in helping negotiations between race organizations and Mexican government and tourism officials since the race began. He also owns the San Nicolas Resort which is the official SCORE Headquarters in Ensenada , continuing to be a remarkable host.

Hall, whose 18 Class wins in this race are the most by any racer, will compete again this year from Team Hummer in the Stock Mini Class in the No. 760 Hummer H1. Sharing driving duties will be his two sons Josh and Chad , who each are driving their own Hummers in the Stock Full class. Hall plans on starting and finishing the race, but he is also listed as a co-driver on his son’s two vehicles in case he needs to assist them and help himself secure his 19th class win.

Bishop, who has one class win in this race and is a member of the American Motorcycle Association Hall of Fame, is the rider of record this year in Class 22 for open motorcycles on the No. 16x KTM XC525. Planning on riding the first 200 miles of the race plus another 100 midway through the course, his co-riders for this year’s adventure are Don Myll, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Russ Mitchell/Justin Hambleton, San Diego/Bill Rogers, Escondido , Calif.

Pre-race festivities on Monday, Nov. 12, for the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, including tech and contingency and the SCORE Manufacturer’s Midway will be held from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (PST) adjacent to Nico Saad’s San Nicolas Hotel , the official SCORE race headquarters in Ensenada . The pre-race mandatory driver/rider briefing will be held Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. (PST) at the Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center. Racer registration will be held at the San Nicolas from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. (PST) on

Sunday, Nov. 11 and from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. (PST) on Monday, Nov. 12.

The post-race Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 Award’s Celebration will be held during the SCORE Fiesta at the Playa Cascadas (adjacent to the Villa del Palmar) at noon on Friday, Nov. 16.

Previous Grand Marshals of the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 have been Parnelli Jones, Mario Andretti and Paul Newman.

The four-wheel vehicle classes with the most entries to date are Class 1 and SCORE Trophy-Truck (32 each), Class 1-2/1600 (25), Class 5/1600 (23), SCORE Lite (19), Baja Challenge (18), Class 8 (14), Protruck (13), Stock Full (12) and Class 5 (11).

The motorcycle classes with the most entries so far are: Class 22 (24), Class 40 (16) and Class 30 (11).

Leading the six Sportsman classes in the race is Sportsman Motorcycle over 250cc which has 54 and Sportsman ATV with 17 entries to date.

you could still squeeze in with us cam... might be a little tight on the way home... but we can get by.

Gilbert Partida from C3R.com came to the Sykes Pit Meeting yesterday. We got to change the tire on the trophy truck, get our fluids, tire, etc...

You all will be happy to know, even trophy truck teams with 40-plus people can be a bit CRAZY at times!!!

I am pleased to announce, I will have a sat phone and an IRC "TV" on my laptop to watch the race transpire (like you can do with the BITD races for free from home).

Nearly 450 total entries
32 SCORE Trophy-Trucks and 31 unlimited Class 1 cars set

For overall 4-wheel quest at 40th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000

Five of the last six overall 4-wheel winners entered in 1,296.39-mile

Adventure down Mexico ’s Baja California peninsula

LOS ANGELES—While it’s certain that much of the focus next week will be on season point championships to be won, all eyes will be watching to see if a SCORE Trophy-Truck or an unlimited Class 1 car wins the overall 4-wheel title in 40th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, the world’s most famous and infamous desert race.

The season-finale of the six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series will feature nearly 450 entries from 43 U.S. States and 16 countries, competing in 28 Pro and 6 Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs.

In the 13-plus year history of the marquee SCORE Trophy-Trucks those 800-horsepower, high-tech, unlimited production trucks were the fastest 4-wheel vehicle for seven straight years (1994-2000), but the unlimited Class 1 desert race cars have stormed back to win the overall four of the last six years.

The star-studded SCORE Trophy-Truck field includes nine of the 13 season point champions in the class history along with 68 of the 84 race winners and eight of the 13 class winners in this race, including two overall winners.

In class 1, nine of the last 10 class winners with five overall wins as well as eight of the last 10 season point champions in the high-speed open-wheel class are in the starting grid.

Las Vegas brothers Ed and Tim Herbst are the winningest team in the history of SCORE Trophy-Truck with 11 race wins in the No. 19 Terrible Herbst Motorsports Ford F-150, while second is Larry Ragland, Cave Creek , Ariz. , with 10.

Ragland is again racing with veteran Brian Collins of Las Vegas , who has four race wins. The Ragland/Collins team will debut the No. 12 Collins Motorsports Dodge Ram in this race. For this race, Collins Motorsports has added a third driver, Chuck Hovey, a Class 1 racer from Escondido , Calif.

Returning as defending race and overall 4-wheel vehicle champions, but driving in separate SCORE Trophy-Trucks this year are NASCAR team owner/driver Robby Gordon, Charlotte , N.C. (No. 71 Chevy CK1500) and third-generation driver Andy McMillin, San Diego (No. 31 Chevy Silverado). Also back is 2006 season point champion B.J. Baldwin, Las Vegas (No. 1 Chevy Silverado).

Gordon, who pull double duty again racing in next weekend’s NASCAR season finale in Homestead , Fla. , after his Mexican run, will have his father Bob Gordon, who has two overall wins in this race, as his second driver.

Andy McMillin will have his father Scott McMillin and Andy’s high school basketball teammate Brian Ickler, a NASCAR Grand National West Series regular, as his other two drivers in this marathon race. Ickler, Poway , Calif. , who started his racing career as a desert racer, was the 2003 SCORE Rookie of the Year in winning the SCORE Lite season point title. Andy was the 2004 SCORE Rookie of the Year.

At the top of the talented racer list in Class 1 is the team of Larry Roeseler, Hesperia , Calif. /Troy Herbst, Las Vegas , who will be seeking their fourth consecutive Class 1 win in the No. 100 Smithbuilt-Ford. Roeseler has a record 12 overall wins in this race, 10 on a motorcycle and two more in 2004 and 2005 with Troy Herbst, who has five Class 1 wins in this race.

Doug Fortin, El Cajon, Calif., who won this race overall in both 2001 and 2003 is entered this year as the third driver with brothers Gary and Mark Weyhrich, Troutdale, Ore., and will be first off the line in Class 1 in the No. 101 Jimco-Chevy.

Mike Julson, owner of renown Jimco Race Cars of Santee, Calif., won Class 1 and the overall in 2002 and will be the third driver for the McMillin Racing team led by 8-time Class 1 winner Mark McMilin, El Cajon, Calif. in the No. 113 Jimco-Chevy. McMillin also has five overall crowns.

Bob Lofton, Westmorland , Calif. , who was the second driver in 2002 with Julson, is the third driver this year for the No. 118 Jimco-Chevy driven by Steve Strobel, Clarks, Neb. , and Gay Smith, Colorado Springs , Colo.

Current Class 1 SCORE Desert Series Point leaders Billy Gapser, Chino Hills , Calif. and his brother Dave Gasper of Santa Barbara , will be driving the No. 105 Porter-Chevy.

One of the other many teams to watch in Class 1 will be led by Germany ’s Armin Schwarz, the seven-time World Rally Championship race winner, with the help of SCORE veteran Martin Christensen, Escondido , Calif. They will be behind the wheel of the No. 104 Jimco-BMW.

NASCAR Truck Series regular Brendan Gaughan, Las Vegas , will be returning to his racing roots, driving the No. 119 Kreger-Chevy in Class 1.

Tied for second in Class 1 points, Ronny Wilson, Long Beach Calif. , has brought in both of his brothers, Randy, Lakewood , Calif. , and Rick, Long Beach to run for the win in the No. 114 Jimco-Chevy.

The son and father team of Eric Chase and Stuart Chase, of Burbank , Calif. , are tied with Wilson and Roeseler for second in Class 1 points in their No. 124 Penhall-Chevy.

After five of six events in the 2007 SCORE Desert Series, Post, 50, of San Juan Capistrano , Calif. ,

and MacCachren, 42, of Las Vegas , have two wins, one second and two fourths to compile 359

points to date in the No.

Third in SCORE Trophy-Truck points and third overall is Garron Cadiente, Mesa , Ariz. , with 338 points after his SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 victory in the No. 38 Ford-F-150

12 Collins Motorsports Chevy

Silverado while the Gaspers lead the unlimited Class 1 in their Porter-Chevy.

One of the new teams making it’s debut in SCORE Trophy-Truck will be the No. 33 Toyota Tundra driven by Chad Ragland, Carlsbad, Calif./Danny Sullivan, Pebble Beach, Calif./Dan Friedkin, Houston. Ragland is a veteran desert racer who learned from his father Larry Ragland, Sullivan was the 1985 Indy 500 champion and Friedkin is team owner and a Texas businessman.

One of the new Class 1 teams will be the No. 131 Penhall-Chevy of Ed Hullinger, Thousand Oaks , Calif. , who co-drivers include NHRA Top Fuel drag racers J.R. Todd and Morgan Lucas, both of Avon, Ind.

Among the other serious contenders in SCORE Trophy-Truck will be the ‘Flyin’ Hawaiin’ Alan Pflueger who has Supercross legend Ricky Johnson as his primary back-up driver in the No. 28 Chevy Silverado.

A late addition this week to the three-driver SCORE Trophy-Truck team for Las Vegas Hotel executive Bobby Baldwin, is veteran nine-time SCORE Baja 1000 class winner Walker Evans, Riverside , Calif. The second driver for the No. 96 Chevy Silverado will be Las Vegas ’ Larry Job.

& Pitting with the Checkers.
( The Checkers dont know this yet though. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/roflsign.gif )

Anyone else Gonna be at Mikes?
I've never been there. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/shrug.gif

Nor know how to get there?

I thought I've seen a video from there once & they had a resturant & Bar or something?

Is the Bumping really that big of an issue the two post in a row talk about it like this?

We could start a whole tread about Bumping & Nerfing......
A bump is a way to let you/them now theres another competitor behind them/you, that is faster than you/them, that you/they didn't hear his/your horn as he/you got closer behind your/their vehicle and that you/they should find a safe place to pull to the side and let him/you pass as you/they return a Tums Up salute from your fellow competitor.
Kind of confusing, but I think you get the point.
In the other hand:
Nerffing is everything else not included in the last scenario..... in our class, it mostly happens when your about to get passed while driving whit the sun in your eyes in the middle of a silt bed down a twisty, bumpy single track road whit a rock wall in one side and long cliff on the other, by a vehicle that should be 100 or more Miles ahead in the course.
NERFFING SUX!!

I want to hear some nerfing stories. Come on, you know you have some. Did you get nerf'd, did you bump someone? Did it damage your vehicle or the vehicle? Did you get nerf'd on a spot on the course that you had no room to pull over?

Is Robby Gordon the Dale Earnhart Sr. (RIP) of off road???

By the way, good luck Cervantes. We'll be pulling for you and all the Class 3s to get to the finish line.

Hey Cam,

Game plan is to go as far as the Bay of LA. If I had more time off I'd go all the way down but it's just not in the cards this year.

Damn right! LOL. The new Bronco is way plush. Who knew leather and A/C could feel so good. I keep thinking I should put my Class 3 parts on it (my beams, radius arms and Deaver springs) and have a nice little prerunner/chaser. And hook up one of these consoles: http://speedunl.com/storeimages/4/images/047.jpg

But continue to build my old Bronco.

My CJ is still out of commission but I just found a TF999 Auto that will fit right in place of my manual so it should be running soon.

Just curious........

At this point, I'm wondering is how many C3R Members are gonna be chasing?

We all know whos racing now.... ( & damn, I hope we get at least 1 more to make it 10 racers in the class.)

But whats the count on Non-racers that are gonna be taking part of this race in either Support or Spectating? http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/shrug.gif

Let me think...... http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/humm_smilie.gif
Off the top of my head we have:
1: BajaBronco13 Chasing for Raffo.
2: Blanco ( me :D ) Cahsing for Moss.
3: Ken ( Anger Issues ) doing Pit Support. For many.
4: vistaracing1 will be there chasing for a Pro/Quad.
5: BAJA OJ sounds like a wanna be? http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/shrug.gif
6: flyinbronco sounds like another Free Lancer near Tres Hermanos.
7: Rocketman somewhere between Santo Damingo south to at least Viscano.

Hollywood celebs all lured to 40th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000

NASCAR’s R. Gordon and ‘Dr. McDreamy’ leading crossovers

To 1,296.39-mile adventure down Mexico ’s Baja California peninsula;

Live internet coverage through www.score-international.com

LOS ANGELES—From NASCAR’s Robby Gordon to Hollywood’s Patrick Dempsey and Jesse James, the lure of the extreme adventure has drawn over 30 crossover racers and celebrities to challenge the 40th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race, the granddaddy of all desert races.

With pre-race festivities starting Sunday and the race starting Tuesday morning, this year’s historic 40th anniversary odyssey of the world’s longest non-stop and most famous desert race will be a grueling and memorable 1,296-39 mile adventure down Mexico ’s mysterious Baja California peninsula starting in Ensenada , Baja California and finishing in Cabo San Lucas , Baja California , Sur.

Among the entries are 22 class winners from last year’s race.

While Gordon’s roots are in SCORE Baja racing as a second-generation desert racer, actor Patrick Dempsey and reality TV star James have been hooked and will both be competing in the legendary race for the third straight year.

While all the rugged regulars in the world’s foremost desert racing series will be in Mexico , the lure of this amazing race also attracts crossover racers as well as adventurers from all walks of life.

The talented field of desert-racing veterans includes 138 racers who have combined for 358 class wins in this race. In that group are 12 racers who have combined for a total of 21 overall 4-wheel vehicle wins and 12 more riders have combined for 26 overall motorcycle victories.

“While the list of names has changed some, we have never had more of a diverse group of crossover racers and celebs as we do for this year’s 40th Anniversary of the incredible Tecate SCORE Baja 1000,” said Sal Fish, SCORE CEO and President since soon after the Los Angeles-based SCORE International was founded in 1973. “This classic event began in 1967 and yet another remarkable chapter in the colorful history of the world’s most famous desert race will be added this year. We are honored to have these racers from other forms of motorsports as well as the celebs and we are humbled to have over 400 of our rugged regular SCORE desert racers entered as well.”

Official checkpoint passing times from Rally Track will be displayed at the hotel.

Gordon won last year’s race with driving help from third-generation desert racer Andy McMillin but this year his father Bob is expected to drive part of the rugged race.

Dempsey has put together an all-star team of drivers in his attempt to win the Baja Challenge class as one of 18 competitors in the class for identically-equipped, Subaru-powered Baja touring cars. Splitting wheel time with him in the BC-2 will be father and son Pike’s Peak Hill Climb champions Rod and Rhys Millen and NASCAR Cup racer and sports car legenend Boris Said.

In his first full season in the SCORE Desert Series, TV personality Jesse James, of Monster Garage fame, will drive his new No. 54 Chevy Silverado SCORE Trophy-Truck.

NHRA Top Fuel stars J.R. Todd and Morgan Lucas, both from Avon , Ind. , will make their race debut by each driving a section of the race in No. 131 Penhall-Chevy open-wheel desert race car of Ed Hullinger.

Cyril Despres, of France, veteran Dakar Rally racer, 2007 overall Motorcycle winner will be riding for the KTM factory motorcycle team on the No. 9x in Class 22 for open motorcycles.

Besides Gordon, also returning to their racing roots are NASCAR Truck Series regular Brendan Gaughan, Las Vegas (Class 1), and NASCAR Grand National West Series regular Brian Ickler, Poway , Calif. (SCORE Trophy-Truck).

Among the other cross-over racers who are entered to date include World Rally champion Armin Schwarz of Germany, former IndyCar star Danny Sullivan, former NASCAR and open-wheel racer turned TV commentator Wally Dallenbach, former IndyCar racer Scott Atchison, Supercross motorcycle legends Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Johnson, Pike’s Peak Hill Climb champion Gay Smith, former Sprint Car turned stock car racer Erin Crocker, Indy Pro Series team owner/driver Ken Losch, Rock Crawling star Tracy Jordan, Snowmobile racers Paul Thacker and Chris Burandt, Snowboarder Luke Trembath, Rally racers and X Games stars Ken Block and Tanner Foust (also a Drifting point champ), TV show creator/producer Bud Brutsman, and Freestyle MX, XGames Gold Medalist Kyle Loza.

The motorcycle classes with the most entries so far are: Class 22 (24), Class 40 (16) and Class 30 (11).

Leading the six Sportsman classes in the race is Sportsman Motorcycle over 250cc which has 54 and Sportsman ATV with 17 entries to date.

It’s the oldest and most well known of all desert races, and it remains as the single most appealing accomplishment to a driver. Since 1967, the mother of all desert races has been run over Mexico ’s mysterious Baja California peninsula.

This year’s Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race will be televised on a delayed basis as a one-hour NBC Sports special for the fourth consecutive year, airing on Dec. 30 on the NBC Television Network. It will also air on a delayed basis outside of the U.S. on ESPN International.

Organized by Marty Fiolka, editor of Dirt Sports Magazine, the event will be part of the pre-race festivities for the 40th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race, the granddaddy of all desert races.

Remembering the exploits of the 68 adventurers who were part of the start of this spectacular desert race, festivities will start Sunday morning at 9 a.m. with a display of vehicles and meet the racers party at the “Conquistador” Statue at the Bull Ring.

Vehicles will begin their trek of some 65 miles at 11 a.m., expecting to finish in the lot originally used for pre-race festivities at approximately 1 p.m. for another autograph party until 2:30 p.m.

The actual 2007 race itself starts Tuesday morning in Ensenada and this year’s historic 40th anniversary odyssey of the world’s longest non-stop and most famous desert race will be a grueling and memorable 1,296-39 mile adventure down Mexico ’s mysterious Baja California peninsula starting in Ensenada , Baja California and finishing in Cabo San Lucas , Baja California , Sur.

Reflecting how much the race has grown since it started in 1967 the season-finale of the six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series will feature nearly 450 entries from 43 U.S. States and 16 countries. From weekend warriors to Hollywood actors and producers, the famous and not-so-famous will compete in 28 Pro and 6 Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs.

“This will be a very special trip down memory lane and SCORE sincerely thanks Marty for putting it together and the participants for being with us on this historic occasion,” said Sal Fish, SCORE CEO and President since soon after the Los Angeles-based SCORE International was founded in 1973. “These vehicles represent some of the pioneers of our sport and the drivers are a very special part of the history of Baja racing.”

40th Years to Glory Parade of Champions

Nov. 11, 2007— Tijuana Bull Ring to Ensenada Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center

PARTICIPANTS (as of 11.08.07):

Compiled by Marty Fiolka-Editor, Dirt Sports Magazine

VW Thing Pace Car, Sal Fish

Completely rebuilt for SCORE’s Sal Fish especially for this event by television producer Bud Brutsman. Presented to Sal Fish as special gift at September’s 40 Years to Glory gala.

“Old Red” Meyers Manx, Bruce/Winnie Meyers

Now considered one of the most significant vehicles in automotive history, “Old Red” represents the original fiberglass dune buggy. Invented in a Newport Beach , Calif. garage by Bruce Meyers, this authentic icon of off-road racing’s past not only set Baja first four-wheel record, but also sparked the highly memorable dune buggy craze of the late 1960s.

#10 Meyers Manx replica, Richard Brown
In late 1967, Vic Wilson and Ted Mangels captured the overall victory at the inaugural Mexican 1000 driving a highly modified Meyers Manx. While the current location of that historic VW-powered vehicle remains a mystery, in 2007 Richard Brown, of Slidell , Louisiana completed this highly authentic replica of the #10 Meyers Manx that Wilson and Mangels used to earn their place in the Baja 1000 record books.

Husqvarna 360, Malcolm Smith
One of the greatest two-wheel icons in history, Malcolm Smith, teamed with J.N. Roberts, won the first motorcycle class in Baja racing a Husqvarna 360 similar to this one. The year was 1967. Now, 40 Years later, Smith and his trusty Husqvarna will take on Baja one more time.

VW-Funco Wampuskitty, Loren/Scott Pearson
Representing one of the first tube-frame off-road race cars ever produced, the Funco Wampuskitty was invented by Baja pioneer Gil George. While its revolutionary “A-arm” front suspension was nearly three decades ahead of its time, these forwarding thinking cars set the groundwork for many generations winning dune buggies carrying the Funco name. This chassis, restored by Lorenzo Pearson, holds the distinction of being the first Wampuskitty Funco ever produced.

Vic Hickey Baja Boot, Bob Law

Completed just in time for the inaugural 1967 Mexican 1000, Vic Hickey’s legendary Baja Boots were off-road machines that incorporated design and technology only now being seen in today’s state-of-the-art Class 1 vehicles. Built in less than a month by Hickey at GM’s skunkworks in Detroit , two of these unique cars were built by Hickey only to be sold to Hollywood icon Steve McQueen. This example, restored by former Hickey employee Bob Law, was completed in 2000.

VW-Burro, Steve Heckart

One of the most famous of the early dune buggies was the Burro, invented by Hilder “Tiny” Thompson.” This #8 VW-powered Burro was driven by Les Choat and Thompson and co-driver Don Richardson in the 1968 Mexican 1000. Steve Heckart from Northern California restored with Burro with loving care.

Vic Hickey Chevy Race Truck, Robert Johnson

Vic Hickey Chevy Blazer, George Seeley

These two unusual vehicles are original, unrestored Baja race vehicles built by the legendary Vic Hickey. Carrying Hickey orange, the pantina of time has aged these two Baja warriors to perfection. Robert Johnson, from Tacoma , Wash. , is a relatively new off-road enthusiast and George Seeley is a veteran Class 5 race driver.

Miller-Havens VW single-seater, Drino Miller
In the early 1970s, no other VW-powered car was more famous than this Drino Miller-created single-seater. Powered by a snarling 2,180cc VW powerplant built by the innovative Miller himself, this iconic jewel of off-road racing history claimed the 1970 Mexican 1000 co-driven by Miller and Vic Wilson. This car was restored by owner Loren Pearson in 2000.

Ford “Big Oly” Bronco, Parnelli Jones

Considered by most to be the greatest off-road racing vehicle in history, the Big Oly Bronco won the 1971 and 1972 Mexican 1000 overall. Built by Dick Russell, designed by Indy 500 winner Jones and maintained by the legendary Bill Stroppe, “Oly’s” rich golden color, blazing speed and signature aluminum wing set the standard for entire generations of off-road enthusiasts.

Chevrolet Class 8, Walker Evans
What Baja Parade of Champions would be complete without “The Legend,” Walker Evans? For the 40th Anniversary, Evans will be reacquainted with his yellow Chevy Class 8 pick-up truck. Built for Evans by life-long friend Parnelli Jones, this vintage masterpiece was not only a winner in the early to mid-1970s, but has been displayed at Reno ’s Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame.

Bilstein VW Baja Bug, Doug Robertson

The most famous VW Baja Bug of all time, this recently museum-quality restored racer set new levels of performance in the late 1970s. Co-driven by Doug and Don Robertson, this ultra-cool Bilstein Baja Bug won more than 30 races and the 1977 overall SCORE points championship. Rescued form a San Diego junkyard, this historic VW was revived in 2001 by off-road racing enthusiast Loren Pearson.

Mickey Thompson Single Seater, Todd Clement/Marty Fiolka

Recently purchased by Baja Protruck driver Rick Johnson, this unique single-seater was originally designed as a sister car to a Mickey Thompson pre-runner. Laid out much like a sprint car, this highly unique and very original car features a movable aluminum roof wing (like Parnelli Jones’ Big Oly Bronco) and a high-horsepower V-8.

The starting line will be on Blvd. Costero in front of the Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center in Ensenada . Vehicles will leave in 30-second intervals in the elapsed-time race and while the fastest finishers are expected to complete the course in approximately 23 hours.

The talented field of desert-racing veterans includes 138 racers who have combined for 358 class wins in this race. In that group are 12 racers who have combined for a total of 21 overall 4-wheel vehicle wins and 12 more riders have combined for 26 overall motorcycle victories.

After five of six events in the 2007 SCORE Desert Series, Post, 50, of San Juan Capistrano , Calif. ,

and MacCachren, 42, of Las Vegas , have two wins, one second and two fourths to compile 359

points to date in the No.

NASCAR Nextel Cup team owner/driver Robby Gordon, Charlotte , N.C. , whose roots are in SCORE desert racing, returns as defending overall 4-wheel winner in the Team Gordon No. 71 Chevy CK1500 in SCORE Trophy-Truck. Gordon will pull double-duty, driving the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 right after racing in Phoenix and just before flying to Homestead , Fla. , to race in the NASCAR Nextel Cup season finale. Driving nearly 300 miles of the middle section of the race will be 2003 SCORE Overall point champion Dale Ebberts, Canyon Lake , Calif.

Just 14 points separate 11th through 15th overall with a tie at 13th in the standings. At 11th overall with 309 points is the team of Daniel McMillin, El Cajon , Calif. /Caleb Gaddis, El Centro , Calif. , who are third in Class 1-2/1600 in a Jimco-VW. B.J. Richardson, Las Vegas, who was leading the overall and Class 1 point standings before a DNF in Primm, is 12th overall and fifth in Class 1 with 304 points in a Bunderson-Chevy.

The team of Tim Noe, San Diego/Tom Watson, El Centro , Calif. , is the new point leader in SCORE Lite and tied for 13th overall with 297 points in a Jimco-VW with Dan Myers, Newport Beach , Calif. , who is sixth in Class 1 in a Porter-Chevy.

Just two more points back at 295 in 15th overall and second in SCORE Lite is the team of Stan Potter, San Marcos , Calif. /Dan Worley, Encinitas , Calif. , in another Jimco-VW.

Two racers in 4-wheel vehicle classes who started the 2007 season with three straight wins and continue to lead the points in their respective classes are Nick Vanderwey, Phoenix (Class 8, Chevy Silverado) and Lobsam Yee, Tijuana, Mexico (Class 10, Jimco-Honda).

With one race left in the 2007 SCORE Desert Series, other 4-wheel class point leaders include: Dylan Evans, Anaheim Hills, Calif. (Class 3, Toyota FJ Cruiser), George Seeley, Glendale, Calif. (Class 5, VW Baja Bug), Mario Reynoso, Tijuana, Mexico (Class 5/1600, VW Baja Bug), Dan Chamlee, Summerland, Calif. (Ford Ranger, Class 7), Rich Severson, Mesa, Ariz. (Ford Ranger, Class 7SX), Ramon Fernandez, Ensenada, Mexico (VW Sedan, Class 11), John Griffin, Mission Viejo, Calif. (Ford F-350, Stock Full), Gavin Skilton, Orange, Calif. (Honda Ridgeline, Stock Mini) and Jason Voss/Rich Voss, Cupertino, Calif. (Ford F-150, Protruck).

With motorcycles and ATV classes joining the cars and trucks in SCORE races in Mexico , the overall point leaders after two of three races are the Robby Bell-led team in motorcycles and the Danny Prather-led team in ATVs.

Bell , Murrieta , Calif. and teammates Kendall Norman, Santa Barbara , Calif. /Steve Hengeveld, Oak Hills , Calif. , have 180 points on the No. 1x American Honda Racing CRF450X. The trio defeated a motorcycle race-high field of 24 starters in Class 22 at the SCORE Baja 500, the most starters in the open motorcycle class in over a decade. It was their second straight win this SCORE season.

Prather, Ramona , Calif. , and his teammates Mike Cafro, Carlsbad , Calif. , Levi Marana, Hemet , Calif. and Marc Spaeth, Warner, Calif. , have two wins and 169 points to lead Class 25 on their Honda TRX450R.

Among the other motorcycle classes, veteran Jim O’Neal, 60, Chatsworth , Calif. , and his put together two teams of talented riders and leads the points in both age group classes. O’Neal and his merry men lead both Class 30 (riders over 30 years old) on a Honda CRF450X and Class 50 (riders over 50 years old) on an O’Neal Racing Honda XR650R. O’Neal’s teams have won both races this year in Class 30 and one in Class 50.

I'm not sure if he stayed for a short while, Or if he just gave up the race to help These poor S.O.B.'s that took a flight.
I heard that ( The Driver I think ) Suffered broken ribs & head trama!

Being that Pike past me around 6:05 PM more or less & that I was at RM142 & that at 8am the medivac chopper had still not arrived, I can only imagine what the guys are going through.
I hope he OK & cudos to Gale Pike for helping out!

& then I also heard this morning that at about RM280 #302's John Main's Co-Dawg got sick & he had to get out of the Cherokee. Leaving the driver to continue that portion of the race alone.

& lastly one of Dan Wrights # 301 Chase rigs broke down somehow around El coyote & needed a trailer to come get him. ( thats gotta suck :o )

& now as for what I saw going by me @ Mikes Sky Ranch @ RM 142.
Moss drove right on by, not needing any help, they were doing just fine! :D
& then about 20 minutes late Gale Pike flys by.
Followed about 5 minutes later by Dale Evans. ( I've been told all Evans has to do is finish within the time limit & hes the years Class champ. )
& after thats was John Maine # 302.
Then Raffo! :)

At that point I stayed up for a while & did not see any other class 3's.
Granted...... I may have been in the BAR. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/13_4_1v.gif
Or in my tent sleeping. ( I had to get up at 3am to get back home to go to work today. )

I'll post pics later...

I'm also gonna check the action out on Line!
I know the Class 3's must still be racing. http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/16.gif
