What are the ideal places to pit? Other then the BFG pits, just trying to figure out while chasing, where is a good place to plan a pit stop.

Well, it depends. For the chase crews, the best places are where the course gets close to or crosses the highway. For the race vehicle, it where they will run out of fuel, or where they are going to break down, neither easy for the chase crews. When we pitted for the quad, we had to be within a mile of the quad's 65 mile range, so there were some pits in some very remote places. The BFG pits were set up where they can get a semi in and park it. I would sure like to hear of someone that is going to be set up in that section between San Ignacio and La Purisima, in the El Datil fish camp area. It's 160 miles between BFG pits there.

El Crucero, south of Coco's corner will be a HUGE pit area, along with Bay of LA, the road above San Ignacio, Loreto, Insurgentes, El Rosario, etc. Cities will literally spring up overnight, and be gone the next day.

That's an excellent suggestion, I will check into it.

I know it's any one's game but can any one give etas (by racers) at some of those BFG pits? And by ETA I mean a gues-timate because no one can predict what will happen in Baja's rough terrain. I'm just wondering because Class 3 is leaving so late in comparison to other classes.

The word coming back from people prerunning is that around mile 55 will be REALLY busy. I can promise a LOT of activity! I vividly recall this section in June! There is a bunch of silt and then a steep hill with switchbacks thrown in at the end. If you're out there, be sure to park safely out of the way!

I made it though the silt with no problem at the 500, but it sure cost me time waiting for a bunch of 5-1600's to clear the hill. Sure would be nice to have a big four wheeler to assist. They'd be quite busy.

We'll see what happens. We're there for everyone, everytime. Thats part of the fun spectating at these races, you usually end up participating somehow. Our camp is up on a small hill 100 ft or so off the course so we are safe up there and can see the racers coming for a long way.
