It would appear our 4th has flaked for the 1000... in fact, we've had a couple of "fourths" flake, but the other 3 of us are going come hell or high water.

This is a killer opporunity, in my opinion:

We are looking for at least one other COOL person who wants to accompany us on our pre-running / pitting / exploring adventure (and does NOT feel the need to drive their own rig). Yes, this implies we are "cool", which might be a stretch!

It's my father, our friend Dale, and me. We are taking my RACE TRUCK for pre-running (did that perk anyone's ears up??).

a) we leave on approximately the 8th. This date is looking the most likely, although it could slide to the morning of the 9th. The primary rigs will be departing from Vegas, but we could swoop someone up in so. cal... or arrange a meeting in San Diego, etc.

b) WE are staying in tents, we will NOT be staying in hotels, although if we come across one for a shower or a room, we might chip in and do it. JSMDA has a room or two in Loreto, so we plan on at least one shower!! This is a BYOT (bring your own tent) adventure (unless you are a really hot chic! he he).

c) we will not attempt to pre-run until at least race mile 305. The final desination is mile RM870. From RM305 on, we will pick loops where we can take turns in the race truck (my dad and I behind the wheel, unless you have a big wallet). The race truck will make it's off-highway excursions and meet up with the support rig at predetermined locations.

d) We eventually make our way through Coco's Corner, Bay of LA, blah blah blah, until we reach RM870. From there, we have at least one trip to Loreto to retrieve the fuel drums and come back. I'd like to hit Scorpion bay, also, if the schedule works out.

AFTER the race... my pop is taking the 3rd 4x4 to Cabo, where it will remain until after Thanksgiving... and I will be driving the 1-ton back to Vegas... with the race truck in tow. I expect to be back the 18th?

We are pitting for 4 or 5 Trophy Truck teams (JSMDASYKO, etc). whatever they want to call this conglomeration), a class 12, and rumored to be a class 3 racer as well (?).

We are bringing elk meat from Idaho for some of the meals, and fish will certainly be on the menu, providing my fishing skills from Erindira at the 500 are still in tact.

YOUR ONLY COSTS would be:

GAS (it's not a free ride). We might get ga$ help from some of the teams we are pitting for, but we will have to see how that works out.

BEER (don't apply for the job if you don't have the skills!). I don't really care if YOU drink, but WE DO. If that offends ya, we are the WRONG team to go 800 miles with).

FOOD (we eat cheap fish tacos whenever possible and we will cook at least 1/2 our meals, we don't eat much for breakfast, but mexican bakeries are always yummy). We don't stop very often at expensive places that serve lobster, etc.

SO.... if you got the time, the passion, are not a jerk, and can have FUN, it's going to be killer. It will be about the cheapest way EVER to see baja, in someone else's rigs (!), and get to ride in a race truck, and pit for Trophy Truck boys (see how I list that LAST)!

So... at the risk of turning this into what SOUNDS like a dating service: (oh thtop it you guyth)

If you are interested, send me a note. If you want more details... give me your e-mail address or respond here. If all you got is lame-o jokes about this... save it for someone else!!

For those of you NOT going... I think the 50th anniversary is only what... 10 years away???

he he he

JSMDA - what is it and is there a shot you can get to get rid of it?

JSMDA is a Hurricane of another name, Baja sees them every year but they have yet to name one like this.

Being unleashed on the world of desert racing is a new twist for Trophy Truck racing in Baja this November at the 40th anniversary of the SCORE Tecate Baja 1000. 5 Trophy Truck teams and their respected pit groups, parts, equipment and logistics will be shared for the first time JSMDA venture.

It all started with Matt Scaroni of SMD Motor Sports and Cameron Steele of the Desert Assassins speaking of how both teams brought tons of resources to Baja but still thought they could do it better. One step forward and the two Einstein’s realized they have virtually identical Geiser Bros trucks and off they went on the idea of co-mingling pits and resources and hence the SMDA was born.

Big poppa Steve Scaroni stepped in and showed what a logistic wiz he is and now they were really moving in the right direction.

As the idea grew the new pit team thought of good friend and former SCORE class 8 and BITD Trick Truck champion Jesse Jones and his similar link to winning builder Geiser Bros. Add in their assets and wins to the SMD multi Protruck Championships and the Desert Assassins 3 championships in two years and you now have the JSMDA.

Although the group had run out of letters and felt the acronym was solid they still had a place on the team for the #7 truck of Scott Steinberger and Dave Sykes and with there contribution the team will now have more pit support than anyone on the Peninsula, they think!

The team has an interesting make up especially when you add Jesse’s partner Wally Dallenbach Jr. who is a former NASCAR star and NBC commentator who JSMDA team mate Cameron Steele has worked with this year on network TV shows and helped to introduce the two. Mix in martial arts expert and Baja top 10 finisher Ikowa Hanowa #14 from Japan and former Open Pro bike champion Mike Childress who has two Overall Baja Championships and you have quite a wealth of knowledge on one team.

The program also extends to the DA’s SCORE Lite and 7sx effort as well as their Open Pro Bike #23x. All the teams are now one moving forward in an attempt to pit one or more of the vehicles to victory at the 2007 SCORE Tecate Baja 1000.

Vic Curl of Trackside Performance who at one time was part of the PPI/Ivan Stewart juggernaut is firmly entrenched in this program and loves it. “We have the support to make an effort that may have not been seen before in Baja” said Curl.

JSMDA is….

28 fixed pits
4 semis/box vans
16 fueling stations
14 chase trucks
Home base camp in California manned for entire event
4 airplanes
More Sat phones and radios than you can count
Emergency help for any team in need

Trust me!

Hoping you guys aren't talking about me -- the one going with us contacted me months ago about being part of our team -- he was with us last year when we were part of Old Horse, but when he heard we were leaving the reservation, he asked if he could join Team Texas. So we definitely didn't steal anyone elses guy..

Hey Ken,

If I wasn't bringing my clan of nephews to the 1000 I would have totally joined you guys. Good luck on your pre-run.
