It would appear our 4th has flaked for the 1000... in fact, we've had a couple of "fourths" flake, but the other 3 of us are going come hell or high water.
This is a killer opporunity, in my opinion:
We are looking for at least one other COOL person who wants to accompany us on our pre-running / pitting / exploring adventure (and does NOT feel the need to drive their own rig). Yes, this implies we are "cool", which might be a stretch!
It's my father, our friend Dale, and me. We are taking my RACE TRUCK for pre-running (did that perk anyone's ears up??).
a) we leave on approximately the 8th. This date is looking the most likely, although it could slide to the morning of the 9th. The primary rigs will be departing from Vegas, but we could swoop someone up in so. cal... or arrange a meeting in San Diego, etc.
b) WE are staying in tents, we will NOT be staying in hotels, although if we come across one for a shower or a room, we might chip in and do it. JSMDA has a room or two in Loreto, so we plan on at least one shower!! This is a BYOT (bring your own tent) adventure (unless you are a really hot chic! he he).
c) we will not attempt to pre-run until at least race mile 305. The final desination is mile RM870. From RM305 on, we will pick loops where we can take turns in the race truck (my dad and I behind the wheel, unless you have a big wallet). The race truck will make it's off-highway excursions and meet up with the support rig at predetermined locations.
d) We eventually make our way through Coco's Corner, Bay of LA, blah blah blah, until we reach RM870. From there, we have at least one trip to Loreto to retrieve the fuel drums and come back. I'd like to hit Scorpion bay, also, if the schedule works out.
AFTER the race... my pop is taking the 3rd 4x4 to Cabo, where it will remain until after Thanksgiving... and I will be driving the 1-ton back to Vegas... with the race truck in tow. I expect to be back the 18th?
We are pitting for 4 or 5 Trophy Truck teams (JSMDASYKO, etc). whatever they want to call this conglomeration), a class 12, and rumored to be a class 3 racer as well (?).
We are bringing elk meat from Idaho for some of the meals, and fish will certainly be on the menu, providing my fishing skills from Erindira at the 500 are still in tact.
YOUR ONLY COSTS would be:
GAS (it's not a free ride). We might get ga$ help from some of the teams we are pitting for, but we will have to see how that works out.
BEER (don't apply for the job if you don't have the skills!). I don't really care if YOU drink, but WE DO. If that offends ya, we are the WRONG team to go 800 miles with).
FOOD (we eat cheap fish tacos whenever possible and we will cook at least 1/2 our meals, we don't eat much for breakfast, but mexican bakeries are always yummy). We don't stop very often at expensive places that serve lobster, etc.
SO.... if you got the time, the passion, are not a jerk, and can have FUN, it's going to be killer. It will be about the cheapest way EVER to see baja, in someone else's rigs (!), and get to ride in a race truck, and pit for Trophy Truck boys (see how I list that LAST)!
So... at the risk of turning this into what SOUNDS like a dating service: (oh thtop it you guyth)
If you are interested, send me a note. If you want more details... give me your e-mail address or respond here. If all you got is lame-o jokes about this... save it for someone else!!
For those of you NOT going... I think the 50th anniversary is only what... 10 years away???
he he he
