What do you do when your racer is in Idaho for 3 weeks getting prep for the race. All of a sudden you don't have anything to do on your weekends.

You build a new rack for your pit truck. We put my old one on Mikes F350 for this years race. I liked my old one for the keeping the generator and compressor up out of the way, but I have wanted to make improvements on it since I built it.

This was good oppertunity to make the changes I wanted. It still has the same placement of the gen, compressor and tire rack. I made the front basket on it 48" this time instead of 28" it was before. Improved the light mounts on the front and made a lockable cover for the back. When the doors are opened then they make and area above each rear fender that you can set things on. teh back and top backets are both big enough to make sleeping area.

I almost have as much fab time in it as I did the racer. :)

Here are some pics.

Very nice, Dan. I LIKE! That was done in a weekend? Damn, your getting pretty good. I might have to steel some ideas for from you when I do mine. I like the added security AND the shelves when the rack is open. Very cool! Jerry

Looks great Dan -- Only improvement I would make would be to put it on my truck! :D

Thanks Scott, this one is setup to take 6 bolts out and unhook two connectors and it lifts off..

I got the generator and wiring for the 110V to the bed rails and work lights done. Compressor, driving lights and antennas mounted today. Just need to mount the work lights and start loading it and it will be raedy to go.

It has had a rack of some type on it for 5 yrs now and the bed rails are holding up fine. No problems that I have seen and it has seen some very rough duty along the way.

That's good to know. I have seen those ladder racks that mount to the bed rails, CRACK bed sides under the strain...

Thanks,
Chase

Are you going to mount work lights facing into the bed?

He's got some bright swiveling halogens on there now that light up the world.
