Ill get some more suspension pics tonight, the rear autofab springs
cycled 18in w/ the shackle so im going to stick with the springs instead of linking it. I will take some more pics of the front when the engine cage is started.

We have three seats, so one will be in the back middle and two 35's behind the 3rd seat(barley fits so no race teams that run 37's). The 3.0 fox 4tubers will come off the middle of the leaf spring, outside of the frame into the rear shock hoops. So once all that is in place we will add some more bars where needed.

Also two diaganol more bars are being added from the middle of the main hoop back to the corners rear of the cage. hope that makes sense, Im no fabber.

Jason,
Give Jeff Veraldi a call at function first fabrication, he is the one building my bronco. Great guy to work and very competitive prices compared to the BIG name shops and Jeff does just as high quality fabrication.

Very experienced fabricator and has work with a few Score race teams(class 7/ protruck) and JD fabrication(JDfabrication.com) for a few years.

Lets see some more pics of the cage, maybe a little bigger:D

Just checked out my bronc and he's got the new leaf spring perches
(actually covers the width of the leaf pack and ditched the angle block)
and the lower mount for the shock are complete, which are on top of the
spring plate outside of the frame. I didnt have a camera but I will post some more when the rear shocks are all mounted:cool:

Yah, forced to retire because of old age! You have been telling us about that truck for 3 years now! We'll be too old to push the gas pedal by the time it hits the desert.

Actually, my own spy tells me that its a well built rig, a lot of well thought out features. Heck your Jeep was a great vehicle, just didn't have a front driveshaft. Takes a ton of work to get one finished, I know.

ok, ok, ok, i know. it has been a slow moving project. BUT, we are going to do this years 1000 in it. already making the plans. we will let you all know what the deal is becouse we are doing something big to go with it. hopefully attract some much needed attention to the class.

the "garage queen" (as someone called it, dont want to mention any names becouse Moss checks this site) is already tech'd by savage to the new rules........2" chromo main cage. i am now doing the suspension.

Coming along nicely, Roach...... I am building the same thing, but am much further behind in the build, although most of the plan is in place. Looks like you went with 6" wide front fenders. Why so wide, when the track width can only be 4" wider than stock overall? Seems like a lot of fiberglass hanging out there that isn't needed.......Plus the fact that it is supposed to closely resemble the stock look. Or, am I not going to have enough room with my 3" fiberglass fenders? Thanks for the info. Jerry

Went to see the progress on our Bronco yesterday. :D :D :D :D

The shocks are mounted and bumps, cage is done besides the door bars, A in the windshield, plating and random tabs for amber light, jack, cooler, and amunition cans(aka storage box).

He has started on the steering with our new grant steering wheel, Qwik disconnect and 1.5:1 steering quickener, also straight rod to the steering box.
Also started building the single swing set steering but no pics yet.

Front Engine cage has been started and driver side 3.0 mounted, we are going to be pulling 20in w/o the axles, and I need to get some 4over axles
so he can cycle and see when they start binding up.

Rear 3.0's 4 tubers are in and lookin beefy;) , they are outside the frame rails and on top of the axle/leaf spring, while the new autofab springs are on top of some new spring perches. Rear bumps are ready to go he just needs to
make plates on top of the axles for them todo there bumpin on:D

shaner17

Are you building this to Class 3 Reg's?

Not really, because I dont think the cage will pass with out a X behind the driver and passenger. I may be wrong about that, not sure. And the beams wouldnt pass since they total 8in over, and class 3 rules state 4in over maximum. Other than those two we should be fairly close to class 3 reg's.

We have no plans on racing as of yet, but I would like to enter a few MDR races in the future. We are building this to help some race teams out and have a liitle fun out in the desert(especially San Felipe and Ocotillo), I would like to become a better driver as well since this will be something completly differant than Im used to driving in the desert(i.e. dirtbikes, Quads, sandrails, stock trucks etc...).

If anyone see's anything else that doesn't meet class reg's let me know so I can be aware of it.

Blanco
03-29-2007, 01:44 PM
OK thats why I asked, because I was wondering about your beams & such.

& I dont think you need an X, the book states one diagonal.
it dont say per driver or anything about an X I'm reading the Book as I type this.

I'm gonna take a Pic. of the Diagram they show & post it.
I'll be right back. ;)

Thats good to hear then, I could also get another set of beams and swap them in when its time to race. The great thing about TTB is that they are interchangable, I could still use the same radius arms, 3rd member, stock hangers, brakes/lines, ball joints, etc... I love the TTB

I would need new tie rods as well tho. And a Race fuel cell but that will come later anyways. The stock 32 gallon is more than plenty for know.

Direct from the SCORE '03-'06 rules & regs book.

http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/500588/fullsize/img_2426.jpg

I know it shows two diagonals, but in the text it states one.

The bummer about swaping to shorter beams will be that you've would of gottin use to the loger ones with more travel.
But you'll adjust. :)

You will definatly have to get use to it, but thats half the fun. I cant wait to stretch those Camburg beams, its going to be alot differant than when I first drove it(i must have been 10 or 11), and beating the old stock suspension up(double KYB's woohoo) on Old puerticitos rd., thats the first place I want to go after everything is dialed in.

Then goes back to the shop for the engine cross member(waiting for the carb/air cleaner), door bars(easier to work inside w/o them) and full wire job.

Much more reasonable than the $600 Fiberwerx is getting for theirs. Was this a custom job, or is this something they normally offer?

this was its second phase i guess, my pop bought it to tow our motorcycles down to san felipe in 1984 then when I turned 16 he gave it to me. i took it all over hollister, pismo, ocotillo, tahoe etc... and learned how to off-road in it. When i turned 18 i got a XJ w/all the goodies and other trucks more reliable(just bought a new f150 love it!) to drive, so the bronco sat at my parents then at my grandma's and last year I sold my buggy to invest in the bronco and slapped my pop into some of my buddies pre runners and he was hooked as well(i figured he would be). And so the story of this bronco continues...

I see you have four hood pins holding down your hood. Does anyone have any experience with this, I had four pins as well (autofab ones) and anything over 50mph or a brisk head wind would rattle/vibrate the hood to the point that I thought it was going to shatter. I tried limiting the air from entering between the hood and grill but it didn't help so I finally put an extra two pins across the leading edge. I traded my stock hood for the glass hood so I don't know the brand but the thing must be ultra-thin compared to everyone else's because nobody else seems to need six pins to hold their hood steady.

Hay Shane, are you going to box in the rear bypasses to seal the cab. The reason I ask is that I was thinking that a rubber boot (think shifter boot or CV boot) that goes from the base of the shock-body to the floor of your cab might be an alternative, the boot would be below the floor-board and therefor almost hidden. This would allow easier adjusting of the valves, more airflow to the shocks and a little more bling factor (why hide $2000 worth of equipment).

shaner17
06-20-2007, 09:11 AM
I have only been in trucks w/ 4 hood pins(autofab aswell) and have never noticed any rattling/ vibrations above 50mph.

In that Off road enthusiest mag the HRE 2wd bronco looks like the hood flex's alot especially in the middle section above the grill(where it sounds like you had a problem with).

We were going to put some type of rubber boot at the floor board, just like you said.

It will also allow more room for a cooler and storage containers to be mounted next to the 3rd seat. And ofcourse we would never hide the sparkle of those bypasses:cool:

We only use 4 hood pins, and the hood is from Autofab (the only glass on that pig), however John put an extra layer of glass into the interior of the hood, knowing what we were going to do with it. I was unhappy with the weight of the final product, but it does not even flinch at speeds of 100+. It takes two people to lift it on and off, but it has something approaching 20,000 race miles on it. Adding more material inside is always an option, molding in ribs, etc. I had to do that on a Mustang hood I had one time, the first time I drove it with two pins in the front, it bowed up about 6 inches!

No that one is designed to use the stock hinges. My hood must definitely be thin because I can lift it of the truck by my self while reaching over the grill.

Shaner, that truck looks unbelievable! I really like the way you have the front bumpers tubes capping off the frame rails as well. Also, and at first I wasn't sure if I liked it but now its definitely grown on me, I really dig the vertical tubes going angularly toward the chassis instead of running down through the floor and then turning into the chassis. I initially was going to do the old 90 degree turn to the chassis under the floor board and add a smaller diameter tube at an angle to supplement it but now I'm leaning more toward your route. Looks very stout, Great build.

Wow! thats http://www.thewebwheeler.com/forums/images/smilies/awesome_dude.gif

Thats alot of coil up front!

What wheels & tires you have planned?

BFG A/T's and not sure on the wheels, want to keep these 4 pro comp a/t's and rims for spares. Got alot more work todo before we start getting the new tire's and wheels, will probably end up with the pro comps for the first few runs.

I FINALLY GOT THE BRONCO BACK!!! so its our turn to start getting this thing running, it was a helluva time getting it off the trailer since it was only my little brother and I, two blocks and a tow strap. Next time its on the trailer it will definatly be running and we will some brakes:D

The rear bumper came out awesome, I would have taken pics but I let my parents borrow my camera during there trip to Italy(hence why my pop wasn't there to help moving the bronco). I'll get some pics this weekend.

Shane,
Impressive to say the least.

Your front end is 4 over per side, but how much over per side did you go in the rear?

We have the same glass in the rear, but it seems that 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" (per side) would be the most the glass would allow with 35's.

Where you able squeeze 2" per side in the glass?

We haven't widened the rear yet, it is a stock 9in. lookin at currie's but havent determined how wide we can go with the glass.

Would like to squeeze 2" per side, I think that would work well with the front.

LOL I saw that hitch dumper I guess I'll have to invest in one of those;) .

Were not doing any serious towing just need to tow two Honda waverunners in the sand and launch them into the bay in front of our house in San Felipe. The bronco can launch them better than our F-250 PSD, since the Bronco is alot lighter(well maybe not anymore) it doesn't dig down as hard in the sand when pulling the waverunners out of the water.

Thanks for your guys great input.:D

Hey shaner if you didn't have the rear side windows in do you think it would be possible to climb in through the window opening and over that one diagonal? Your cage work is similar to what I had in mind for my project and I'm hoping I can get people to the back seat that way so that I can have a full "*" at the "B" pillar.

Oh and I love the integrated hitch mount.

You would have to crawl thru the tubes like it was a jungle gym but I guess you could if you wanted to... but Im 6'5 250lbs, pops is 6'3 280lbs and my 16 year brothers is 6'2 200+(and growing) so we wouldn't have the best time crawling in and out of the side windows.

Sounds like a good idea especially for the B2 since they have taller rear windows that curl over the roof, right?

Yeah it does curl a bit but at the same time everything in the b2 is a bit more condensed. I'm thinking maybe I could do something like this to make that diagonal removable.

Sorry for waiting so long to respond but that looks like a good idea and I think it would be cool for the B2. I would worry about how fast the passenger could get out in the event of a fire tho...just something to think about when building the cage with those removable bars. Looks pretty easy to remove those pins tho.

Nice Job. Looks real good.

On a side note I just talked to the guy that owns that Orange Bronco last weekend in the BITD Race at Primm. He said he went through several transmissions until he bought a transmission radiator from PWR (he said get the bigger one of the two). This will allow you to keep your trans temp at about 180 to 210. Mine currently runs hot as well.

I switched race classed from a 3 to sportsman 1400/1450. Maybe we'll cross paths. My next race will be at the M.O.R.E. 500 Day/Night Race in Lacerne Valley.

Id really like one of those PWR coolers, I doubt I can get the coin for it right now tho. but Im awaiting a response from PWR for the 12" fan large oil cooler. Im guessing they want like 500 bux.

E&J pre wired a switch and power for a oil cooler fan so I definatly want to go that direction...anything good in the 200-250 range? Its a rebuilt C6 with a shift kit and manual throttle body. never had over heating problems before, but now Im showing around 220+ after a few runs...
