Gary Newsome Reports
Sonora Tourism is buzzing over the prospects of off-road racing
Sal Fish of SCORE International has been confirmed shopping for Mexico races in the state of Sonora in Mexico. Several sources say with all the widespread crime problems in Baja Norte and the vice-lock the Municipality of Ensenada has over peninsula access for SCORE Mexico races.
Sonora is pulling out all the stops to have off-road racing in its state. Baja California racing is seriously on the ropes with racers bailing on the SCORE series and ever increasing public reports of organized crime stories from Baja, Mexico.
Sonora Tourism told Baja Racing News.com late yesterday, "Pro Desert Racing has been a disappointment. Their races are disorganized, few sponsors and no real winning payouts. So far there have been very few new racers in the Pro Desert Series. We want SCORE this year, to come to Sonora. The Pro Desert disorganization has caused serious problems for us here. At the last race, there were big problems for the locals that we do not want to continue."
"SCORE would have more racers and less problems", the Sonoran Tourism representative said.

yeah right.
When 100,000 gringos show up, and trample through one of the pot fields, how is that going to go over?
I'm saying this and I WANT to get away from TJ. I just see the writing on the wall already there.
How about: Sonoita to Mazatlan! :o)

If Score moved the race i would consider going back to Mexico, I have been told to many bad storys about the crime, On my way to the 1000 we had a cono in Rosarito beach, I had to unload my Vintage race truck, In front of the condo when i backed it off the car trailer i drove the truck 20 feet at 5mph and got a speeding ticket, The mexican cop made me drive my race truck to the police station and pay the $80.00 speeding ticket, With all the storys i have been told and have seen Iam having second thoughts about returning next year

That would be nice, I know my story of being robbed by the police in rosarito is a small one but i can see now what could happen, After that I had a bad fealing the whole 2007 baja 1000 trip, After the local news showed the Vintage parade from TJ to Ensenada and local people know i owned a Steve McQueen vintage race truck And i had a bad feeling that is someone wanted the truck they would take and there was not one thing i could do about it, I know Baja has been running for many years and the crimes towards racers and support has gotten worse in the last 2 years, Its like being in a 3rd world country, Even with the issues i still had the best time of my life with my truck the responce from the racers and localswas much better then i could ever hoped for,and would like to return at some time, My next event will be the 2008 Mint 400 race, I plan on taking my # 40 truck and my James Garner 442 Goodyear Grabber Olds should be done, I plan on driving them a lot in Las vegas and I want to take them out at the same time so i will invite other class 3 Racing Forum drivers to to take turns helping me driving the car and truck around Looking forward to seeing Class 3 there , i still Love Baja:confused:

Hey Baja1000,
You state above that "Its like being in a 3rd world country" you are in a third world county from about 2 miles before you reach the Mexican border until you get back....

Its gonna sorta be like NASCAR?..
To have a 1000 mile race the Stoddard area would involve lots of laps I would imagine?
