FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 12, 2008
SACRAMENTO,CA - The Moss Brothers and their winning 1979 Ford Bronco are on their way to San Felipe, Mexico to compete in the Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 race on March 15. Over 270 entries from across the world will be converging on the small fishing village on the East side of the Baja California peninsula where they will race each other over 230 miles of sand, moguls, silt, moguls, canyons and did we mention – moguls ? The Moss Brothers arrive as a five time winner at this event and are five time Class 3 Champions.
“The decision not to race in San Felipe in 2007 hurt us at the end of the year in the points chase.” Don Moss continues, “that was a hard pill to swallow and we don’t intend to give it away again. Anyone who wants that championship will have to chase down my Black Bronco !” The Moss Brothers are undefeated in SCORE Class 3 racing since 2002 and have 26 class wins.
This will be the first time that SCORE will run through the majestic Matomi Wash at the start of the race instead of near the end. After Matomi, the challenging course will run through two more of the infamous Baja washes—Azufre and Huatomote before heading back Northwest for the final 19.6 miles to the finish line.
The race annually provides a greater economic impact to San Felipe than the entire month-long ‘Spring Break’. Pre-race festivities at the Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 will include the colorful SCORE Midway and tech inspection on the Malecon beachfront in downtown alongside the azure waters of the Sea of Cortez from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday (March 14). At 10 a.m. on Sunday (March 16), the awards celebration will be held in front of The Beachcomber Night Club on the Malecon.
