Hello again!
I'm trying to do some fun and interesting things for the Class 3 Cup. I, of course, can be over-ruled by the Board of Directors at any time. For those that wonder if I did this AFTER the Mint 400... I gave each team a piece of paper prior to the start, so this would be in writing before we took off.
Note: The Baja 1000 will be weighted more heavily in each category... but the board will vote on the specifics of this soon.
1) Start a race: 10 points
2) Officially finish within the promoters time-limits: 10 points
3) Beating other vehicles:
3A) If your wheelbase is longer than 100 inches, for every vehicle you finish ahead of, regardless of their wheelbase and regardless of whether you even finish the race, you are awarded: 10 points (for each one)
3B) If your wheelbase is less than 100 inches (center hub to center hub), same concepts as above, but: 12 points for each vehicle you finish ahead of. See below for how this is determined.
4) Good Guy Bonus: Helping others is good for all involved. If you STOP and OFFER assistance to another CLASS 3 racer, you are awarded a maximum of 3 points for the whole race (not per each racer you attempt to help out). Even if they do not accept your offer, you get 3 points. Get the number of the vehicle you stop to help - if there are any disputes, they will be asked if you stopped. In the case of ANY descrepancies, the points will not be awarded.
5) Assistance Bonus: IF (and only if) they (a Class 3 racer) take you up on the offer, whether it be a quart of fluid, a radio relay, a tow-job - ANYTHING that takes time away from your efforts, you will be awarded 3 more points (maximum for the race). These two rules encourage us to help each other. The more Class 3 Racers that make it to the finish, the better off we all are! We had a 75% finishing ratio at the Mint 400... and I'd like to see this continue!
Note: I personally believe SCORE puts too much stock in completing a race. There have been races where we ALL were timed out - ALL received DNFs, and there was no justice afterwords and anyone who fnished well wasn't rewarded. Sometimes the races are very long, rough, and difficult to complete. I believe we should be encourage to try to finish ahead of our fellow competitors whenever possible.
OFFICIAL CHECKPOINT TIMES WILL BE USED TO DETERMINE THIS. If any two vehicles time-out or break in-between two checkpoints, they will be considered a "tie" unless there is a method to determine who went further (IRC tracking, the racers agree, or whatever). Again, if we don't know who went further, they will both be given the same distance (which MAY still be ahead of other vehicles).
If you break your car, and do not feel you can make it to the end of the race, under these rules, you may choose to continue on, even at a slower pace, in hopes of finishing ahead of another car who may be broken or may give up. Obviously, this should only be done with safety in mind. Don't continue on a course doing 1 mile an hour in the dust if Trophy Trucks are coming around you doing 95 (MINT 400!).
There will be much discussion, I suppose on these topics, and I, along with input from The Board, reserve the right to make changes in the next few weeks.
