I hope that title is ok. My fiance named it before we got it home.
well i picked up this 1973 AMC Jeep Wagoneer for $80 and it runs (ok) we had a few issues getting it home. hell even getting it on the trailor
issuse 1. engine fire. issuse 2. 3 flat tires and i brought 2 spares. and 3. A CRAPPY TRAILOR.

ok about a week before i picked it up some teenagers attacked it with an axe(yes an AXE) and screwed the front fenders so here is a pondering moment
1. cut, bend, and mend the old stock fenders. or
2. get some PnP replacments.

and bumper

so last night i got a wild hair and went out and pulled the under dash A/C unit out(it still works) and all the A/C stuff (keeping the york comp might make a nice onboard air) them i pull the heater box and blower and wow with all that crap out of the way there is alot of room in the engine compartment. and i thought i might run the intake ducking through the hole from the heater in the firewall. and also pulled all the smog crap off.

I will post more as i work.

ok so an update is due. i have pulled the axles, pulled the motor/trans/t-case and i am fixing to start the rebuild of the motor. i am going to keep the QT t-case and i am going to keep the Dana 27 front axle and do a disc brake swap. i am also going to start designing my cage work (this should be fun...) does anyone know where i can get long travel lift leaf springs that wont break the bank. and will being 2" longer really bust my balls on wheelbase? i will post pics soon.

Chances are... if you keep it 4x4, none of us are likely to ever say anything. Further, if we race sportsman (such as a BITD race) or Heavy Metal (such as SNORE or BORE, we'd have our side entry for the Cup and trophies... and you'd be racing against who ever else showed up to race in that class. For example, Moss is racing to tomorrow against 14 other trucks in that scenario. I will tell you guys, also, that these sportsman and "safari" guys like 1450 in MDR are getting faster and FASTER. There aren't really any rules, so some guys are showing up in basically trophy-truck-style suspensions. I can see some future bitching, but it's basically "run-what-you-brung"... which is kinda fun. Attrition is HUGE though... last year Moss was leading the safari class when he broke, but there weren't this many.

Anyway, until somebody starts bitching about trucks being too wazoo... it's a fun class. SO... the net-net here... is show up with 4x4, be nice and we will probably look the other way (at least until you start dominating - ha ha!!). There is a green f-150 who races BORE and he's in the same boat. A couple inches too long, but again, I think anyone on this site would love to have the competition (and take your money!! :D:D:D)

I cannot speak for everyone, however.

If it's a 2x4, you are really barking up the wrong tree with Class 3 Racing... although you can still build a pre-runner or chase truck!!!!!

the wheel base should be legal by the time you get the suspension worked out. Where to start??? Figure out what you want to do with this,RACE or PLAY, then you will need to contact t&j performance and order a shackle reversal for the front. As far as springs goes you can have them made by a local spring shop or the better option is to call deaver springs(they are the best as far as I am concerned) they will get it right for you, but wait till you get the rig done so you can give them the race weight of the rig. You will really need to strip it down and start building it up bit by bit. What motor is in this, keep the quadratrac transfercase it works but will need some things done to it(contact me later on when your ready),what axles do you have f&r,keep the tranny and build it,cage should be 2" dom tubing or 1.75" chomoly and get the score rule book to help you out. E-mail me for more help if you like, and thanks from a fellow jeep guy!! tim

cage should be 2" dom tubing or 1.75" chomoly

If the race ready weight is more than 4000# then it will have to be 2" tube DOM or 4130 chrome moly, refer to page 35 of thr SCORE rulebook for the cage design.

ok cool as of now it has a Dana 27 closed knuckle brum brake front axle i was planing on running that axle till i get a same width 44. the rear is an offset Dana 44 and it has an AMC 360. i would like to run a Dodge 360 but that wouldnt pass for this class. and yes i want to race it...

You can get a open knuckle disc brake Wagoneer 44 cheap, don't put any money into the 27. In fact, if I were going to race the Waggy I would get the later D44 rear axle for a Qtrac instead of the one you have as well. The earlier ones have a 5 lug and the later have 6 lug but otherwise are a direct swap. You can buy another whole car like you have for a couple hundred bucks and have some spares. The early axles are not nearly as desirable for racing as the later ones.
