Congratulations guys! Watching the IRC tracker, it appeared you had a trouble free race and ran at a good pace. Tell us about hanging out with Rodd Hall for all those miles. It looked like you kept swapping positions.

I saw don at contingency, but not on race day. Dang, sounds like it went smooth for them. they finished about 4 hours ahead of us. but at mile 16, where that dude on the quad broke his collar and shoulder bones, we took a hard hit to the pass. side and it broke a tooth off the worm gear in the steering box. so if we turned full lock to the left the steering would lock up and we had to drop into reverse to would take the load off. we took it easy till mile 80 and did what we could to adjust it, but it was still a little sketchy to drive and we got into a pile up on a hill at I believe RM 360, took over 2 hours to get going again. On top of that we had to change our steering box at RM 380 because the truck was near impossible to control. but everything was cool after that, we passed #703 10 miles from the finish and took 2nd place crossing the Finish at 5:31. Congratulations to everyone who finished, this course was brutal so again Congratulations. see you guys at the 1000...

Negative, I put a spare in our chase truck. It actually bent the centerlink as well, which is part of the reason it kept locking up... I heard Heidi steele took 1st in 7s, is that right?

Not sure on that. She was down around RM370? or so for quite a while. I haven't been able to get on RDC for most of the day for info.
Edit: Yup, Dirtnewz has Heidi for the win. Maybe she should just take over in the TT.

Thanks guys for the congratulations.
Although the tracker was not working the Frey Jeep did start and made it quite past the summit I believe. They looked strong before they broke the transfer case. They lost some time in the first miles but only dropped one minute to us between BFG pit one and BFG pit 2. We didn't have a perfectly trouble free race but we were prepared for everything that happened so time loss wasn't huge. The course sure didn't seem as smooth as some were advertising it this year!!

Yeah man I agree, but they had it marked out before that big rain. that spot between RM 16-18 was hell... but then again the whole course sucked...
as far as heidi steele, that girl can drive. I bet she would dominate behind the wheel of a TT...
Oh yeah, I got video in my chase truck of us racing Robby gordon in his hummer on his way to ojos negros. we topped out at 105 and he was pulling away, but we were on his ass for about 8 minutes. Ill try and get it off my camera...

Hiedi only went 100 miles. maybe 105. That is how I read it. She has a new guy co-driving (meaning: he drives).
It's thanks to a killer prep-job by Timmy at TLR. That boy knows 7s. he is focusing on class 1 now... so no longer driving for heidi.

Even if Heidi did only drive the first 100 miles, she wasn't taking it easy because we never passed her. We did catch and pass the Severson/Flamingo entry that was in her class. Flamingo must have been having problems because I don't think they finished. The truck that really took us by suprise was the new Honda Ridgeline. The old one is gone, and this one is all new. It's got power, and they flogged it through the rough stuff.

How does something in a stock class keep up with you guys?
Well when you try it you will understand. Several 'excuses' come to mind.
- They start in front of us
- They have a much longer wheelbase than C3
- The Hall family knows a bit about driving and Baja
- We had a good hour or so of stopped time.
- We only have a few inches more travel than their truck
- We went just fast enough to lead and win our class from the start.
Makes you wonder why everyone wants to build such a 'giant killer' rig before coming out to race us in class 3 huh...

I was going over all the video that I had on my camera and I realized its on the memory stick that I left in our chase truck. Ill have it on monday. Then, its showtime. Ive got almost 20 minutes of video of our 7 when the course ran along the highway. I wasnt in that chase truck when filming but Ill post that as well on monday.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 6, 2008
MOSS BROTHERS WIN BAJA……AGAIN
SACRAMENTO, CA - The Moss brothers recently returned from competing in the historic 40th SCORE Baja 500 race (May 31) in Baja Mexico against over 300 entries with their 28th Class 3 win – their sixth time winning the SCORE Baja 500. Over 100,000 spectators lined the course to watch the racers who came from 25 US States and six countries to conquer the Mexican back country. The 440 mile race started and ended in Ensenada, but it was the miles in between that challenged the racers to finish in the 20 hour time limit – something only 195 were able to do. The Moss brothers and their ‘black bronco crew’ completed the race in just over 15 hours and are now one of less than 20 teams still in contention for the year ending Toyota Milestone Award.
The team had some unusual bad luck with two flat tires due to unexpected and apparently unavoidable punctures. Don Moss and co-driver Chris Reilly got to change them both out on course at the same time. Further down course, Crew Chief/Driver Dave Grundman and co-driver Dan Thunborg stopped to help a Pro truck in a pond and shortly thereafter had a track bar come disconnected, which they promptly replaced. On the final section of the course, crew member Eric McGill from Texas got his rookie ride as a co-driver and as a class winner at the finish line.
A huge thanks to Dennis Dunn, Daphne and Leslie Moss back at home watching and listening on the IRC live computer tracking web site. They were able to send the team updates and information all day and night and kept them informed with text messages and calls on the cell and satellite phones. "We have come a long ways ! And to think we didn’t even have radios when we started out in the old days," Don Moss reflected.
Undefeated in their 1979 Ford Bronco since they entered SCORE racing in 2002, the Moss Brothers have five SCORE Class 3 championships. Aura 360 filmed the Baja 500 and the show will be broadcast on ESPN locally and internationally. Teaser clips and more information about an anniversary DVD and broadcast times can be found at www.thebajaunlimited.com.

From my very first race, I gained a tremendous amount of respect for those that are out there doing it... for the pounding the vehicles take. There are times when I don't truthfully know how the hummers keep up, but I will tell ya, they move along VERY well. The "tortoise and the hare" thing has never been more true than off-road racing. You bust your butt to get around a guy... go like heck to get away from them, and if you are forced to pull over for something, what seemed like hours is erased in mere minutes. I can safely say, for those that have not experienced it - even though we run considerably faster than class 11... you have a few problems, stop a couple of times... and THERE THEY ARE. They just keep moving. That's when you know your day is starting to suck. I don't say that out of anything but respect for the class. Just goes to show ya, several hundred horsepower and 35 inch tires do NOT necessarily make up for having to stop or having problems.
