View Full Version : Rear Leaf Springs / Deavers

So I know that a lot of guys are running on Deaver leaf springs in the rear of their rigs. I am assuming that everyone is running at least a little lift in these springs to clear some of the larger tires your running. Is this correct? I know that we want to keep the center of gravity as low as possible and some of the trucks look like they sit pretty close to stock height in some of these pictures and still run a good size tire without much fender triming. Or are the pictures making the trucks look deceivingly lower?

As far as my build is going on our 78 bronco. I was contemplating running the 4" Deaver springs because i know that is what it will take to clear a 35 or 37" tire, but i don't want it to jack the center of gravity up. I spoke with the guys at Deaver and they mentioned running some F-150 springs which would give a little more droop as they are not as wide. Any thoughts on this to those running these springs or Bronco's or anything really.
Thanks for any input.:)

4" springs are pretty tall. I run Nationals "aka Autofabs" 2 1/2" lift 10 or 11 something pack that are direct replacements and tuck 35s no prob. These will acheive 16" of wheel travel when the stock shock mounts are relocated with long travel shocks.

If you choose the f-150 route (they are 1/2" narrow than the broncos) you will need to change shackles and axle perches. Check out Giants 64" leaf kit.

you can actuall keep what you got, add the 2 1/2" f-150 leafs and have someone tig weld chromoly boss material onto the insides of your perch and shackles. this can be better becouse now your mounting bolts will sit on that much more material and your mounts will have less wear.

Im pulling 18in w/ those autofab springs and shackles bumped and strapped.

I was more concerned with the front clearance fitting the 35's with the 4" and keeping it level with the leafs. Hmm, i'm intrigued with the idea of the F-150's. Do the 2.5" autofabs bolt directly up though. Thanks guys

Then why did you title this thread "Rear Leaf Springs / Deavers"

Sorry for the confusion, I'm was concerned having to go with a 4" Leaf in the rear to keep it level with the front (I knew that i didn't need that much to clear in the rear). I was wondering what anyones take was on the Deavers in general for the rear and the 4" in particular, because that is what I might need to stay level with an approx 4" front end. Not sure how much if any some guys are running to clear these tires and don't want to go to big for COG. Not sure if that helped or not. Now that I read it even I'm confused.
